Most "verbal commitments" are looked at as someones "word of honor" to commit to a particular school.Just about all recruits honor thier commitment and sign their LOI.I'm confident Miss Young thought long and hard before deciding that SDSU was the place she wanted to futher her education ,and where she wants to play basketball.Welcome to the Jackrabbit nation,looking forward to watching her develop academically as well as on the court.Go Jacks!

agree 100% jd---i have followed recruiting in a number of sports, and, i know kids changing their mind isn't "rampant" but, it does happen enough that every now and then it sends a "message board" into a tizzy! i was/am thrilled about Young's verbal! i fully expect her to sign. thrilled, but, still a bit hard to shake that "cautious" bone.

i have no idea if this girl would have any interest, but, a gal to watch is kira larson, finishing her sophomore year from fargo north. 6'3" and still growing (at least that's the last i heard---actually, she's hoping to be 6'5" before it's all said and done!). rebounding machine! offense not bad either. participates in volleyball, basketball, and track and field. in fact, her school just won the 2011 nd state championship in bb. also, just a few weeks ago, she set a record at 5'9" in the high jump. i know her father graduated from sdsu. actually tho, it wouldn't surprise me if she goes "big time" in one of those sports. imo, her potential is that high. "ATHLETE" stamped all over this girl.

I watched four teams in Indianapolis that would, I think, be highly interested in a 6'3" + WBB player with real skills . . . not to say such a player would not look fabulous in yellow and blue . . .

I think what SDSUAlum08 writes is the "conventional wisdom" but that does not make it true. I recall well a good friend I grew up with, talking to my oldest son about college choices. This fellow noted that where one gets their undergrad education is not as critical as how one achieves in undergrad -- getting good grades and being a well-rounded student (participate in some activities etc.). He said Ivy League grad schools had their radar out for student from places like SDSU -- it helps the Ivies claim the great diversity they have and they know that students who performed well at places like SDSU are great students and great people. That friend who made those comments tragically passed away a few years ago from cancer. He was a Watertown guy who got his undergrad at USD and finished his doctorate at Stanford and for many years was an outstanding economics professor at Harvard. They used his textbook.

Incidently, I know a couple who are both Purdue grads (Purdue IS a great school) and their two sons are at SDSU--they're very pleased with the education their sons are receiving at State.

We'll agree to disagree. I don't want to muck up this thread.

As a fan, I really liked Chynna Stevens' game from Clark/Willow Lake. If she had a consistent three point shot like Wark, I'd swear they were the same players!

I do know that in the MBA job races in the Chicago market MBA'S carried a great deal of weight if they were from Northwestern University and/or U of Chicago. Having an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Business did not carry much weight so I found. Kellar is now owned by Drvy.

I would concur with JackJD comments and what you do as an undergrad counts a great deal so I found out when I had GI Bill funds to use and applied to a number of grad schools in the Chicago area. My low GPA at SDSU killed me on enterance scores.The GMAT test and and entrance scores where based on 200 times your GPA for the final two years of undergrad school. Why the low GPA at SDSU? I came totally unprepared in terms of emotional maturity and did not apply myself the first two quarters. Yes SDSU did have quarters at one time and converted to semesters my junior year.

I don't know what this has to do with Women's bb, but I believe our ladies have all done well in the class room. I would put them up against a degree from Purdue, and a low GPA from Purdue would find themselves in the same stew that I experienced about 30 years ago. The preceptions have not changed over the decades. GPA's tell a lot about the person who is applying for the job.

If my sources are correct and I'm 100 percent confident in them, AJ offered Ms. Stevens a scholarship this weekend. I know her father well and I am very excited to hear of this development.

Must be something in the water considering 2 of the best players in our program history came from that area. Shannon Schlagel from Clark and Jen Warkenthien from Willow Lake.

Being a "small town" boy I feel the need to clarify, Schlagel is from Raymond, SD. I also feel the need to add that Jen was born and raised in Lake Norden before moving to Willow Lake. Not that Willow Lake and Clark aren't small towns themselves.

This is great news! The womens team keeps loading up with great talent.She seems like someone we need,a good steady performer ,someone who you can count on to score every game,just like Wark was.

As noted, official word of the verbal released by AJ Friday last week. I think she will be a great addition.
