The Summit League will tighten things up. Yes, things have changed a lot since the move to D-1. D-2 is kind of like living in a small town. No one cares if you drive a four wheeler in the street or have a bon fire in your back yard, but move to the city and you can't do that. The things that happened in the NCC days will be no more.

You know it did ruin some of the games. Players dodging bottles thrown from the stands made took the fun out of the game. Players and/or cheerleaders getting injured took the fun out of the game. I remember one game with Augie in Sioux Falls, very close, carrots kept hitting the floor, technical fouls gave SDSU several free throws and extra possessions. There is a good of chance that it was SDSU fans throwing them as Augie fans. Ruined the end of an exciting game; which meant it ruined the game.

I just found out not to long ago that I saw my first SDSU-USD game in the Barn (don't remember any until Frost), but crap like that does ruin the excitement of beating another team, at least for me.

In order for a basketball team to progress , they have to recruit better players than the ones that left , i don't know if USD is doing that or not , Yoeger was thier best player last year & she's gone, in fact , the players that are comming into the program are about the same as the one's that left, that's not progressing, that's staying the same.I look for USD therefore to be about the same as last year with a year of transition wasted.Hope i'm wrong , because i like to see all the area's teams do well nationally.I hope they can play like they did against North Carolina, although , to shoot that good all season long might be asking too much.

USD adds Hegge who redshirted last year, she is their best player and better than the girls that left IMO. I think they will be better this coming year than they were this past season.

Hegge is a phonemonal athlete, and was a starter and the most athletic player on their second place Division II team from 2008. The Coyoteee's have a pretty respectable team. Actually, I'm not sure if she started, but she did get a lot of playing time.

Mckayla Knudson looks like she might be a very good player, hate to single out players by name , because i'm just guessing how good they'll be by reading just thier player profile information. There could be others who turn out to be top notch Div 1 players too, just don't know.I probably might have mis-interrputed (sp) how good they'll be next year.I do know however , playing against a rival like SDSU, they'll play as hard & as good as they possibly can.

Agree, Amber is flat out a great athlete. She focuses a lot of energy and attention on track so I'm not sure she'll reach her potential on the court but if she does she will be one of the best at USD.

Lavin took a very relaxed approach at the DII level. The women had the summer essentially off and practice was far from intense during the year. I'm guessing Williams is taking a completely different approach given the success in Brookings and some expectations, realistic or not, with respect to the run at the DII championship 2 years ago. They are going to have some darn good shooters and they aren't going to be afraid to shoot it. They lost the game at UNC because UNC was a much better team that played hard for 5 minutes. We can't take them for granted, that is for sure. It would be different if it was an exhibition game or even a game after we win the Summit Championship but its a game in Feb.

I hope this doesn't come across as smacky, but I expect the Jacks won't take the Yotes for granted and will win big. Everyone keeps talking about how they played UNC close but come on. They also got spanked, lost by 20 points, at the dome to Concordia last year. Northwest Missouri State beat them in the VHS gym. We should be pre-season top 25 and they are not ready for us, imho.

The SDSU game for USD is also nothing more than a non conference game. Since USD at least has a conference title to be competing for hopefully they will focus most of their attention towards their conference season. It's more important for SDSU to beat UMKC and more important for USD to beat Texas Pan American.

I totally disagree. First of all, this game would mean everything and more to USD if they won...a hell of a lot more than beating Texas Panam. As for State, beating UMKC is nothing, but if they were to lose to USD...wow it would be as bad as it can get.....that being said State will be prepared and roll.
And ask coach Williams if he would rather beat State on the road or win some weak conference title....the boosters and the coach will take the W against State any day.

This is the "only" game for their seaon that matters. The rest mean nothing, unless they are good enough to qualify for the NIT, and I don't think they will be.

I presume USD would love to play in the WNIT, as the Jacks did a couple of times before becoming eligible for the Big Dance. That should be a motivation for the Pups.

I don't mean this as smack, but I believe that part of the WNIT's selection process is choosing teams that draw good crowds.(all about the money) That is not the case at USD so they would needed an extremely impressive season to make the WNIT.

They could bid a sizable amount and take the loss.....

At any rate, SDSU got in as an at-large the first year due to their top 50 RPI.

USD is not going to have a top 50 RPI. Their schedule won't be strong enough.

I would say USD has the opportunity to quickly become a WNIT-worthy team (although probably not in 2009-2010). Our women have proven that female athletes from this region are nationally competitive. There's no reason I can think of why USD shouldn't become a solid D1 women's program, probably in the top four of the Summit year-in and year-out. Put together a solid schedule, finish second in the Summit as Oakland did this year and you can expect the WNIT to come calling. The company that runs it knows that WBB is big in this part of the country.
