  • Re: 2010 Recruits

I have a feeling he will take his time in deciding where he wants to go. The last thing he wants is to commit again and have to change his mind. He may not commit at all and just the LOI on signing day. He may also commit, but it will not be made public.

We will see, but it is nice to think SDSU is the mix.

Most of those schools are not any closer than Ames? The question I have is it was communicated Dykstra did not want to make the committment demanded by a Big 12 school. Does SDSU demand any less?

I think that he didn't want to make the committment demanded by big 12 is misquoted or misunderstood. Iowa State wanted him to quit everything else and concitrate on basketball, being in a small town its hard to tell the football coach or the baseball coach or the track coach that you can't go out, especially when you can help them out....

            Doc,

Your sources in this case are very accurate. Dykstra is leaning towards SDSU subject to them making an offer. I watch this kid play alot, and I would say this......He is a fairly good player, but given his size, he isn't dominant. Can he be coached? I am sure of that. Jordan does not like to "mix it up" inside, that's for sure. The Heemstra kid ( I believe his dad played at USD? ) also isn't very physical. Their games would have to change alot to be impact players.

How Jordan handled the Iowa State decommit was very professional. I admire how he did it, so I wish the kid nothing but the best, includung if he ends up at Brookings. McDermott at Iowa State also handled it well, so there should be no "trash" that follows him. I do think the young man wants to just be a senior next year, and not live and breath basketball all his life. I can understand that.

Anyway, this is one situation I am fairly close to, and I do hope he plays somewhat close. I also hear a few mutterings of Drake, but I think SDSU is alot more practical.

In all reality? Yes they do

              But so does USD,NDSU, etc

They can say they don't, but there have been many a program that have picked up the crumbs left by major D-I schools on athletes transferring or changing their minds. Don't get me wrong, the kids that commit to our state schools also work hard on improving, but they aren't playing on the national AAU and USA Basketball national and international travel teams. Those kids are commited and work their cans off.

didn't Heemstra throw a dunk down over Kai or Cordova last year at the elite camp? I wouldn't say that either of them aren't physical..... I know of a lot of small school guys that people think aren't physical until they get to college..... just because they don't play physical now doesn't mean that they can't......

I know my source is very accurate and I appreciate your additional info. If our staff decides that Jordan is someone they want I suspect they will offer sooner than later. I don't know all the details regarding the variables in place on our side or from Jordan's perspective so I really can't say with any certainty what is going to happen. As I've said many times before, time will tell.

My guess is that the SDSU coaching staff has a pretty good idea about Dykstra's game, as they have been recruiting Heemstra for quite some time, and by default that means they have seen Dykstra play a bunch as well. I suspect SDSU will be in contact very soon (if not already) with Jordan and his family if they are interested, as the evaluation process should not take long at all.

Clint was showing Dykstra around today. Clint also hosted Nate Wolters when he was on his visit. Lets hope he goes 2 for 2.

It's encouraging to know that he's on campus and that SDSU has obviously made contact with him.

generally you will get the regional recruits that you are targeting, your verbals and then that handful who go to every camp just because.

My GUESS would be the 3-4 recruits that we have offers out to in Minnesota, Heemstra and Dykstra, probably the 2 from Roosevelt minus Larson, maybe 1 or 2 from Viborg, Horstman from Winner, maybe Chad White's brother Mitch..... Then you will get a few recruits who aren't on SDSU's radar but they go to every camp out there because technically it is open to the public......

I'm not positive but I heard that most programs like to invite around 20 recruits to their elite camp...

Has to be a good sign that Jordan is on campus for a visit so soon after decomitting from Iowa State. Does anyone know how many scholarships we have available for 2010? We know Heemstra will take one of the available scholarships and Callahan,Williams and Engen graduate. Davis is still listed as a Junior on the Roster which has the appropriate classes listed now for 09-10. New players not listed yet.
