Good post, Casdev. The bashing of South Dakota kids (on this site and others) that leave South Dakota to pursue college athletics somewhere else is ridiculous. It (the bashing) happens all the time, too.

Not exactly stellar numbers and many on this site would say that Freshman was horrible and not good enough for Florida......Florida is in the SEC....not the Summit League. The SEC produced the National Champion this year as they have in the past in fact they have had 3 times since 2006. Many Freshman don't walk into the SEC and contribute day 1. No freshman at Florida does that unless their roster dictates that they play all freshmen or you are the National HS Player of the Year and a guaranteed NBA Top 5 pick (ala Bradly Beal). Cody is talented enough to play at Florida, did contribute to the program, battled through injuries and illnesses and still had as good of freshman year as many of his teammates and past Gators.

I believe Cody said it best when he stated "I'd rather be playing for a program that is competing for a National Championship than one that is just happy to make the NCAA tournament."

Oh and btw the stats for the athlete listed above were for Joakim Noah.....and he's not that good well at least to some on this site he wouldn't have been.
Ouch on the bold. Seems a little like telling a girl, "I'd rather date the prom queen than a girl who is just happy to make the cheerleading squad." Its one thing to think it (who wouldn't), another to say it out loud (to the cheerleaders face). I'm probably reading into it more than is necessary (as I have a tendency of doing).

Purely my own speculation, but this sounds like it would be a common recruiting line used by majors when going for a kid they think might go local mid major to star from day 1. A way to put down the small schools without directly bad-mouthing them. Everybody's entitled to their own opinion (including Cody), but I think you would agree that this is a pretty simplistic viewpoint weighted heavily in the major's favor. I'm not saying it isn't true, but if Cody's last 3 years go like this year, will he feel the same way? Maybe he would, and there's nothing wrong with that.

SDSU will never be Florida. However, Florida will never be SDSU. Each has its own advantages, and Cody obviously liked Florida - and who can blame him. He isn't the first local athlete to go as high as he can, and he won't be the last. He will no doubt do more in coming seasons at Florida.

To sum it all up, I hope he does well in his career, but I wish he was at SDSU.

ALthough I have a great deal of respect for Cadsev, I have to disagree to some degree. Going to a high major is great IF you get to play. Practising against quality players helps development, but there is no substitute for game action. Also being a bigger fish in a smaller pond can have other benefits. Do you think Nate would have garnered the attention he has if he had been playing a smaller role at a bigger program?

Nothing ticks me off more then people who think they have to leave the state to make something of themselves. I don't blame him for going to florida but at the same time people including cody don't respect where they are from. Its people who dismiss south dakota who need to stop the bashing. If they would open their eyes and look to see how good it actually could be here. Bashing mid majors doesn't do anybody any good. Codys size could have maybe helped gox out or get another rebound against balyor and made a run but I giess he is happy riding the bench for major program, and if he is good for him.

Or maybe it is more like I would rather be friends with the prom queen then date "just" a cheerleader - just sayin

Maybe they want to go somewhere else and experience different things in life. Meet new people, try different food, live somewhere where they can't be reliant on family and people they've known all their life. I know as soon as I finish my student teaching next semester I want to go somewhere far away. I'll miss my family but I want to try to make it on my own. I want something different than South Dakota.

Nothing ticks me off more than people who think staying in the place they grew up their entire life and never trying something new is the best possible life.

Kidding. That doesn't tick me off. Some people enjoy where they grew up and can have an enjoyable life staying there. Others have the desire to try new things and go somewhere else. Neither is right or wrong. People are wired in different ways.

It just seems like many South Dakotans have a large inferiority complex about the state. If anyone is trying to leave it's cause they think they are too good for South Dakota.

Seems like we are veering of the subject of this thread. I'll try to right the ship.

Minnesota Magic Elite released there summer roster and a player that's on the Jacks radar, Class of 2013 6'8" PF Joe Aase, is one of the team's players. Not sure if we have an offer on the kid, but I have read we have at least been in contact with the kid.

Here is his profile and some videos. Looks to be a 4 with some range.

This is some serious thread drift. Please no more comments in this thread regarding your opinion of where Cody Larson should play. All indications say he is staying put, and that's his choice to make.

I'm one who agrees with this sentiment,my experiences of places outside of South Dakota were the result of time in the military as opposed to civilian job opportunity's.Vietnam was a great place to visit....ah, just kidding! But, back on topic,I've spent time in Va.(Newport news. Norfolk, Hampton , Va beach(nice!)Williamsburg (nice also)We had plenty of time off, weekends and such, to take in and explore areas we were stationed in.Some towns/city's were just plain dumps, some were' nt,as is the case in most states.Been overseas twice, also been to Ky.(fort Campbell, home of the 101st Airborne),NJ, NY (NYC),Washington DC,Washington (the state)(basic training, didn't get to see anything there other than the base and some big *ss hils we had to trudge up(misery, agony, and the last ones name escapes me), brief time in SC (more training)All in all,was happy to experience seeing different places, but they all seemed a little"foreign"to me and when it comes right down to it,i agree with Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz......"There really is....No place like home.

I have a soft spot in my basketball heart for tall people that can shoot. (I'm sure most people do, though. Whatever.) That kid has some skills.

Thank you! Just because Cody isn't averaging ten points a game as a freshman doesn't mean he can't play at that level (yet anyways). He, like everyone else in the program, knows this is a big offseason for him.

As a red shirt Frosh he is avg. less playing time and making less of an impact on the Gators program then True Frosh Zac Monaghan was having on our program. Read that again very slowly, I am not saying that Zac is better then Cody, just saying that Zac has had more impact - and he didn't have much impact - then Cody.

ody could have a great off season and explode next year and be a big part of the Gator program in his third year or maybe he will get passed up by someone younger who is red shirted this year and he will be a practice player on scholarship. Only time will tell. I have no problem with a kid going out of state to chase his dreams. I have no problem with a kid staying home to chase his dreams.

I don't think that the kid ridding the pines for the power conference school is automatically better then the kid who is a star for a mid-major. I just don't. And I say to each their own.

I know some on here have a personal connection to these kids and really are pulling for them to do well, I understand that. I am not rooting against Cody. I don't know him so when I look at his stats, I see more of a role player then star in the making. If being a role player on a power conference team is his fate and he is happy cool I wish him the best, but some kids would rather be a star for someone outside of the power six and that is ok too IMHO.

Nothing in his stats so far says that he is the next Mike Miller coming out of SD, but he could prove me wrong.

It just feels like some on this board think you have to leave to to be legitimate and I don't agree with that.

The player will decide what is best for them.
