I don't know if he would be interested at this point, but Jared Vlastuin would be a great addition for the basketball team, even if only for one season. He's an elite. 6-6 athlete who was originally recruited out of high school by Drake as a basketball player. I saw him play for the Schoolers a couple of times. Great hops. The Jacks have had football players make the conversion to basketball in a week or two. Surely a track star could contribute after an off-season and a month or two of practice.
Jared never played for the Schoolers, played for the Heat. I doubt he would be up to play since he wanted to play basketball and run track when he came but Nagy wouldn't give him any money to play. It was something about if he played basketball, they would have to use a scholarship up on him and they cant use a track scholarship for him if he is going to play basketball. It would have to come out of the basketball money.

That is the rule. You can't use track scholarships for FB or BB players that participate in both sports. He would have had to use a BB scholarship or no scholarship at all.

Thanks for posting that youtube Devine dunk. I missed it on SportsCenter. Seeing yourself on ESPN's top plays has to be pretty amazing for a kid from Wasilla AK!
I am really looking forward to seeing what this kid can do at SDSU. Maybe we'll see Zach M. setting him up for a similar dunk 2 or 3 years down the road.

Maybe the Jacks won't be known to OOC teams as non-jumping white boys anymore.

SDSU was maxed out or committed out at the time, he would have had to red shirt, the coaches told him that he could work for a scholarship but was not going to be able to run track if he wanted a scholarship. He said he wanted to take the money and run track.
Its also the reason many baseball power programs have a fair share of football players as well, because it helps with being able to spend full scholarship money on the best players. It seems there are at least 1-2 starters at the CWS that play football as well.
I understand they were maxed out on schollys at the time, but if he would of just told Jared that he would give him the money the next year, chances are Jared would have done it. 4 years of Jared developing in Nagy's system makes me wonder what he would have turned out to be as a player.
Sorry, I got the Heat and the Schoolers mixed up. That doesn't change my opinion about Vlastuin. He could be a great contributor for the Jacks, even if only for one season.
I'm impressed, great break away speed, drives hard to the bucket but finishes with a soft touch, deep threat.I think he'd fit in real well with our team.I like his classical music choice on his highlite reel too
