2012 F Tanner Williams (Orion) will be visiting Brewster Academy to possibly do a year of Post Grad and reclassify to be a 2013 Recruit.
I don't like this. TV had said that he had been on campus twice. He has offers from us and Missouri State.Last edited by LakeJack; 02-07-2012, 11:39 PM.

Since he had visited here more than once,I was hoping he would sign this spring.

Re: 2012 recruits
Tauvan Prince benefitted from the post HS academics, and yes, he ended up with a "better offer". No word heard about how he is doing academically, but must be at least "ok".
Having been an athlete who participated in winter sports, Fall Semester is to be well ahead (A+ going into season), and Spring Semester was avoiding bad grade for the first 1/3 test, then bring it up when not spending 6 hours a day in training + away travel. Most profs were understanding and allowed toleration for school sanctioned travel in their required deadlines.

Re: 2012 recruits
I don't think its academic, I've read about this kid and it seems his biggest knock is being from a small school. He played for a big travel team his junior year (same as Marcus Paige), but his senior year he was hurt and played for a lower key travel team. It seems like some in his circle believe that if he played at a prep school he would become a much larger recruit. Just a guess though, from my understanding he really does like SDSU.
http://insider.espn.go.com/college-s...anner-williams
here is his ESPN grade (an 80)
Here are some of SDSU's players grade who received one Dykstra-89, Heemstra 87, Prince 74, White 75, Feigen 76, Wolters 70, Horstman 40(means no evaluation), Zach M. 40(means no evaluation),
It could be grades, but here is the story I got on his recruitment. He played with Marcus Paige (#1 PG recruit/committed to UNC) on his summer year before his junior year. Received a ton of interest, had a so/so junior year, had some injuries. Got hurt late, decided to play on the Peoria Irish (smaller summer team) instead for his senior year, came in late, was at one of the bigger tournaments for his first game off of injury and then roles an ankle the night before and really struggles. Had interest from Missouri State, but they have since changed coaches. He likes SDSU but from the understanding I get is he thinks he can go big time and many around him think he can as well.
The biggest issue with him I have is what is his real size and what is his position. I've seen him listed from 6-4 to 6-7 and from 180 to 200. Most video has him playing give me the ball position (plays in Illinois smallest class) which worries me somewhat because sometimes it takes longer for those players to adjust to a role.Last edited by joeboo22; 02-08-2012, 06:38 PM.

Re: 2012 recruits
Tanner is a good student its not grades at all ! He really likes the coaches and players its the location that he is not crazy about !!! He is 6-7 and weights 205 he is a 4 now but will transition into a 3 with better outside shooting , at sdsu level he can guard a 2,3or 4 . He can really run the floor ! Has over 40 dunks on the year !! The kid loves the weight room and can bench 270 pounds. He had a great jr year and was 1st team allstate in 1a and 2a. He did hurt his knee with 2 games left in the year in played with it . Tanner was not health at all in july and it did hurt his recruiting. This year he is avg 18 pts and 9 reb a game and has been tripled teamed all year the guards and the coach have not done a very good job getting him the ball. I have watched all there games this year and the kid has showed great composure! Good luck in whatever school he picks !

Re: 2012 recruits
SDSU would be VERY happy if Tanner decided to attend SDSU to play basketball. He's a great player so you don't have to question that. It will be hard to keep him at SDSU if he gets a scholarship opportunity at a bigger school/conference. SDSU has something good going on right now so they need to take advantage of their recruiting opportunities. Signing Tanner along with a JUCO big would be a major boost to their team. Maybe add in an athletic wing and they've got the making for an amazing team next year.Disclaimer: This post may contain assumptions and/or opinions related to Jackrabbit Athletics.

Re: 2012 recruits
High major is not important to him its distance from home that is the key !! He wants his parents to be able to watch him play and he has a brother that goes to Depaul so he would like a school around 3 to 4 hours away ! It may happen or it might not but atlaest going to Brewster gives him a option for that to happen in a year...... we will have to see how it unfolds.

Re: 2012 recruits
I wish him the best. who knows maybe he ends up in Brookings a year later. (you never know)
With South Dakota having its worst basketball senior class in my memory, and Iowa and Minnesota looking pretty bleak with uncommitted players. I wouldn't be surprised if SDSU went and looked at JuCo's, Prep schools or took fliers on out of area kids.
I look at the team and I think Horstman and Monaghan will be able to take over Griffs on the court roll. Heemstra can continue to develop into a post player and if Devine comes in and gives the team 10 minutes of work it could help. Hopefully all of the redshirts return so if we have a few guys who the coaches would like to redshirt they will be able to. Its tough to redshirt a player when you have a short bench.
I still think the team is missing that rebounding guy, it seemed like when Kai and Cordova were here (even though both were undersized) they would attack every rebound, every lose ball, etc. So if I was guessing 1 type of player they would recruit it would be that type of a guy.

It would be nice to use 1 of the scholarships on a juco / graduate school transfer Big so we can redshirt Devine (I'm a firm believer that interior players benifit tremendously from a redshirt year). The other one, unless there is a superior talent that becomes available, might serve us better next year with a more talented area class, plus would spread out the classes more (currently the Jacks have large Freshman and Sophomore classes).
A few players I'd like to see the Jacks land in the 2013 class:
The two Pierre kids (Hanson and Severyn) have to be high on the priority list, as they are local kids with legitimate DI talent. I believe they both currently hold offers from SDSU.
Quinton Hooker out of Park Center (MN) is someone that has reported interest from SDSU and is having a good junior campaign. He is listed as a combo guard, but he sure looks like a point guard to me.
Getting a stud point guard in this class would be great being that Nate will have graduated by the time the class of 2013 gets on campus.
And of course, if there is still mutual interest with Tanner Williams after prep school, he would be a good one to pursue, as I really like his ability. If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.
