I did correspond with a cousin of Michael's and all she said was he was thinkin' about it. I think she would have 'refuted' my probe if he were going to stay. My 2 scents! I mean sents! I meen cents! nevermind~

Re: Hot Stove 2010-11: Men's Basketball Edition

I have been so out of touch, but have heard the rumors as well.

I saw Mikes family at the Summit Tourney and think he has to do whatever he has to do to provide for them. He can finish up his year of school wherever he moves.

I can't blame Cassaday at all. He barely played this year and our inside depth will only improve in the future. He's just not a D1 player and if he can go somewhere where he can contribute then I wish him only good luck.

Palarca provided some positive minutes this year but Rader was the one who I held out the most hope for. He knows the state of the program and his decision to leave most likely means he knows that guys who share his position are superior to him.

          The Bad:
Some will view this as a knock to the program. Also if we're not able to get in a solid body or two the depth can be affected. NOTE: I didn't count on much of a contribution from Cass or Rader and Palarca was just a backup PG who could be replaced by Carlson, White or a newcomer.

          The Good:
I don't mean to be disrespectful, but this is more than likely good news. We get 3 schollies freed up. Two of them are for 2+ years. Cass and Rader had no role this upcoming year, so we basically trade that for an opportunity to offer two other kids a schollie. Palarca's role, IMO, would be downsized this upcoming year (maybe he saw the writing on the wall) w/ the emegence of Wolters. So maybe getting another kid (the one rumored to be on campus is superior to Mike) is a good thing.

Two-deep for next year if rumors are true:

            PG: Wolters (So).....??????/Carlson (Fr)
            SG: Sargent (Sr).....Callahan (Jr)
            SG: Moss (Sr).........White (Fr)
            PF: Dykstra (Fr).......Heemstra (Fr)
            PF: Cordova (Sr)......Fiegen (So)

            Needs:
1.) Another big that would allow Heemstra to play his more natural three-spot.
2.) A backup PG. Preferably a swing-type guy who is a deep threat.
3.) A shooter. I like what Moss and Callahan bring to the table, but their shooting ability is yet to be proven. Carlson and White are rumored to be pretty decent shooters, but who really knows (White is not quite the shooter that Carlson is).

I was talking to Michael Palarca last week and he told me that he is leaving the team to move back to California to work, and eventially take over his fiancee's family business. He has a child and is ready to move on with his life. Josh Cassady went on a visit last weekend to a DII school in Colorado so he will be leaving. Probably not a big loss. Finally James Rader is moving back to Colorado as well. Not sure a to his playing status. Apperently his father and Nagy are best friends and that is the reason he was here in the first place. Anyway, we have freed up 3 scholarships and we are out looking for juco's, hopefully a big or two. Hopefully everything will turn out ok.

According to the story in the Argus Leader this morning, add Cordova to the list. He told Nagy on Tuesday. So it's Palarca, Radar, Cassiday and Cordova.

That's a surprise, for sure, but looking at last year, it is clear that basketball wasn't on Cordova's mind in most games.

Having a 1 year old myself (I believe his child just turned 2), I can't say I can blame him....I can't believe how fast my daughter's first year of life went, seems like it went way to fast....and I wasn't in school, or at practice, or on the road at all, let alone as much as a basketball team is.

Good luck Anthony, you won't regret more time with your kid. Same goes for Palarca.

The article also stated AC is on track to graduate after completing 3 courses next semester. Quite an accomplishment for someone who was a non-qualifier as a freshman, congratulations and good luck AC.

If he has back pains, I would be thinking of something less demanding physically. I am glad Anthony has done better in the classroom than on the floor. That counts in my book. He apparently cares about his young family. So best of luck Anthony. You represented SDSU well in your three years on the court

How can you blame Michael and Anthony for making the right choice. Both have a family and BB takes a lot of time away from them. And I am glad AC got his grades taken care of and is going to be graduating. James and Josh both have dealed with injuries. Can you imagine how hard it was for Coach Nagy to realize the best thing for James was to let him go? This guy can shoot, but the foot speed is not there for DI. I wish all 4 of them best wishes for their futures.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

I really hate to see Michael and Anthony leave. They have both made good contributions to the men's basketball program. I'm disappointed in AC, though. The coaching staff and the program went out on a limb and helped him succeed in college. Then he bails on them. By the same token, I guess the program bailed on Rader.

My first thought was disappointment too but after reading that he is going to finish his degree it made me feel a lot better. Plus, if he is having that many pain issues and is questioning playing his final year that isn't a good situation. It was good to see that he considers Nagy a father figure. None of us know what it is like to be in their shoes. I just wish them the best. All four actually.

I'm left with the feeling that this is another unlucky break in this continuing saga. Hope they can find a couple guys to fill some holes and this thing turns into a happy ending.

This is a blow, especially with Palarca and Cordova but the program is more prepared now to handle it than in the past. I was really looking forward to AC getting healthy and banging around with the bigs next year as a senior, but given what I've read and heard about his situation I can't say that he's making the wrong choice.

Still I think next year's team will be fun to watch, although I do worry about the presence of a big physical like AC in the middle.

Re: Hot Stove 2010-11: Men's Basketball Edition

AC is really a surprise. I guess that explains last year and the lack of effort/passion we seemed to see at times. I want to keep it respectful, but, IMO, AC moving on might not be as horrible as some think. Especially if we can replace him w/ another big.

Without being too specific let me just say I know the Rader family and James himself are upset. It makes you wonder. If the staff knew AC was leaving would they still pull Raders schollie? If James wanted to stay and Nagy needed him after AC left you would think that Nagy would ask him to stay and he would.

I know the staff has been recruiting for this year even after all the schollies were filled, so I think they have a plan. My best guess is they have at least 2 players ready to suit up for next year. I don't expect the other two schollies to be thrown at whoever takes them tho, which is good.

Thank again to all that Anthony, Mike, Josh and james did for SDSU.
