Yep, I'm skeptical...but if true, not the end of the world. Palarca is a spark plug, but too undersized to contribute game in/game out during conference play. Cassaday does not have a position or the skills at the D-1 level and Rader looks like a streaky gunner with nothing else to his game.

I am hearing the same things from people inside the athletic department. The only variation to the three leaving is that one of them (Rader) is staying in the area to play basketball. Regardless of the situation its never a good sign when players leave your program! However, the cupboard is not bare like it was a few years ago. We really do need a big man. But, we needed a big man before these three gentlemen decided to leave.

JC transfers are certainly a strong possibility.

Ok, so I know there's a difference in men's and women's basketball, but these guys leaving (not Palarca if the statements made about his reason is true) makes me think...Look at Jennifer Schutloffel. Career bench player for 2-1/2 years to starter.

For these guys to jump ship mainly for playing time seems "baby-ish" to me. Things are not always greener and if you continue to work hard, things can turn around. If the main reasons are beyond playing time, then understandable.

There's a positive side to athletes looking for playing time. While you lose some, there's the chance you'll pick some up. I have the impression (translation: just my unsupported guess) that there's a lot more movement in DI basketball with the mid-majors having a slightly better chance of picking up a good athlete compared to losing a good one.

I disagree with this comment. College athletes put in a lot of time and effort into their sport, and most do so because they enjoy "playing" the game. If they are putting in the effort and aren't seeing any playing time and don't see it coming in the future, I don't fault them a bit for moving on to a place were they can make it possible (or a different path all together).

We all come to crossroads where we have to decide if putting in the effort is worth what we are getting out of something, and it doesn't always mean we are whiners or quitters because we decide it isn't worth it. Matter of fact, a lot of times it opens up time and energy to put towards things we find more worth while.

I was told this from people inside black hills state's program (before Sather left though) that Josh and James had both talked to Sather about transfering their... I was told that Josh was a sure thing if they could get scholarship money (BHSU is in the process of thinking about going D-II so scholarships are very confusing at this time) and James was iffy.... 2 of BHSU's players played on the same summer team as Josh and 1 other one was neighbors with Josh in Aurora.....

As far as them leaving I'm sure its on good grounds and wish them all the best.... Josh had a tough injury and tried to fight back....

I don't understand how we judge players for their reasons for leaving. Some leave for playing time, family, school or other things. Are Laura Nielsen and Carda in that category? I think they left to work on school and get married. I think that it's up to them. While they stay here and play, they get their school paid for and get to be cheered for and looked up to by little kids. If it's not right for them, they can move on, pay for their own school and live their lives. It would be nice all players stayed here their whole careers but that's not a reality. People don't get jobs and work there forever, buy 1 house and live there forever, etc...
If Palarca leaves, I wish him the best. I saw that there was a player on campus on Monday. He brought his wife and son. He looked like a PG. He is around 6'0"(from a ways away) and he is African American. I just saw them walking around campus with Klink and a couple other coaches. They were at Cubby's that night eating with coach Nagy. I couldn't tell you if he is a juco or not.

If RUMORS of transfers actually prove to be true, I will be disappoint.

While everybody has to make decisions that are best for them, I'm not sure what benefit these kids will get from transferring.

For Palarca, if he is going to run a family business, did something happen that the business won't be there in a year? A wise person once told me you have the rest of your life to work like a fool, but only a few years of college. I'm all for manning up, but sometimes part of being a man is being content in a short term situation you aren't particularly happy with.

Rader is even more puzzling. Sure, he didn't get a ton of playing time, but he was a freshman. He showed streaks of great potential, and seems best suited for a position where he was playing behind an all-time great. Sure we have some great recruits coming in next year, but a limited reserve role can turn into a starter with one twist of an ankle.

Cassaday is probably not going to see a ton of playing time, but there's no telling what kind of injuries we have next year that could dramatically impact his playing time. If Engen hadn't come on so strong this year, he would have played a bit more, IMO.

Anyway, the decision is theirs. Best of luck to them regardless.

As fans of the Jackrabbits we would all be disappointed if they transfer because we embrace these players, are fans of theirs, and we share SDSU with them.

But I truly don't think it's our place (including me) to say we don't know what benefit it would be for them to transfer. Unless someone is "in the know", none of us understand what is going through their mind. Only they know what is best for them and that is what we should want...what is best for them.

Not everything goes as planned and I wish the best for all three of these young men and hope that their futures are good. This certainly isn't the way they saw their time at SDSU coming to an end. Is it unfortunate? Sure. Is it disappointing? Yep. But let's all remember it is disappointing for the players, their families, the coaching staff, the administration, and lastly and least importantly us fans.

Speculation on the what's and why's of these situations don't have much place in my opinion. They are what they are and unless someone can post something "concrete" than it is kind of moot.

It is unfortunate that the SDSU experience for the young men is coming to an end early. The other side is that we now have three scholarships to go out and try to continue to improve the team.

I just just spoke with a player (rather not give his name) as i sent him a private message and he just responded and it is he confirmed that Mike Palerca and Josh Cassidy are leaving the program. I did not ask about Radar, but anyway we have a few spots to fill before next season.

I wish them the best. At the same time, I'm excited to see who can be brought in to potentially make this team even stronger moving forward. GBGBGJ!

I am sure it is him just letting us know Palarca, Cassaday and Rader are gone after this year.
