Re: Hot Stove 2010-11: Men's Basketball Edition

      Next year's roster:
      Anthony Cordova, forward, senior
      Dale Moss, guard, senior
      Michael Palarca, guard, senior
      Clint Sargent, guard, senior
      Payton Tivis, guard, senior
      Griffan Callahan, guard, junior
      Josh Cassaday, forward, junior
      Dwight Pederson, forward, junior
      Tony Fiegen, forward, sophomore
      James Rader, forward, sophomore
      Nate Wolters, guard, sophomore
      Brayden Carlson, guard, RS freshman
      Chad White, guard, RS freshman

      Incoming freshmen:
Jordan Dykstra, forward, Rock Valley, Iowa
Marcus Heemstra, forward, Rock Valley, Iowa

I think AC needs a wake up call. He needs to be more of a rebounding force and needs to play THE WHOLE GAME. He's a great player when he shows up. He can also be dead wood when he doesn't. You can have all the hoopla when his name is anounced, but if he only play's half the game, put somebody else in and leave them there.

Re: Hot Stove 2010-11: Men's Basketball Edition

I've been reading these posts for about a year but never posted a reply. I find this thread particularily interesting and wanted to add some insite to stir discussion. I was talking to Michael Palarca last week and he told me that he is leaving the team to move back to California to work, and eventially take over his fiancee's family business. He has a child and is ready to move on with his life. Josh Cassady went on a visit last weekend to a DII school in Colorado so he will be leaving. Probably not a big loss. Finally James Rader is moving back to Colorado as well. Not sure a to his playing status. Apperently his father and Nagy are best friends and that is the reason he was here in the first place. Anyway, we have freed up 3 scholarships and we are out looking for juco's, hopefully a big or two. Hopefully everything will turn out ok.

Geez. Just when it seems like you've turned a corner.....

          Wolters / Carlson at point

Sargent / Callahan at the 2

          White / Heemstra @ the 3

          Fiegen / Dykstra @ the 4

          Cordova / ?? @ the 5.

Suddenly the team is looking really young.....

Dale Moss should be included some where, if not even a starter! We need to fill positions very soon. Nothing like losing 6 players from one team, no matter what value they had!

And very talented. Think you forgot about Moss. Palarca is the only one I hate to see leave. A Juco Big Man and a guard would add the depth we need.

Doesn't anyone get a little skeptical about a first-time poster having such breaking news? Anyone able to confirm the report?

Would be nice if we could get a Juco Center and 6'11 Alec Brown from Winona. He has several offers and apparently still one out there from the Jacks and needs to add weight and strength. If those three players indeed are gone it would free up the coaches to add some pieces we are lacking.

Yep, I'm skeptical...but if true, not the end of the world. Palarca is a spark plug, but too undersized to contribute game in/game out during conference play. Cassaday does not have a position or the skills at the D-1 level and Rader looks like a streaky gunner with nothing else to his game.

Forgot Moss. He should be in the 2/3.

I'm a little skeptical, but the report isn't exactly coming out of right field either (or is it left field? I forget how the expression goes). It is known that Palarca is a father and has a family to worry about, and it is also known that Cassaday and Rader weren't getting hardly any playing time. I think the first time poster gains some credibility just by having logical explanations for these players' departures.

I really would love to see us get a commitment from Alec Brown as well! He is almost 7'0" and has improved tremendously from his junior to senior year. He would likely be a red shirt candidate due to his weight, as I'm about two more Miller High Lifes away from weighing the same as him (and I'm six foot tall), but he has a lot of potential and has really gone under the radar due to his late development. He currently has not committed to anyone yet.

His Team also placed 3rd in the Minnesota State AAA High School Tournament, and here are his stat lines from the tourney:

vs. Orono: 35 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks
vs. St. Paul Johnson (eventual champs): 15 points, 10 rebounds, 9 blocks
vs. De La Salle (3rd place game) 20 points (9 of 10 shooting), 4 rebounds, 4 blocks
If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.

I agree with Kemo. I saw this kid play during the state tournament this year and I like his game now, and his potential down the road. Moves well for a seven footer.

Radar's dad and Coach Nagy have a relationship that precedes James committing here. Josh and James haven't gotten as much playing time as they would like, I'm quite confident of that. If both are leaving it is completely understandable and I expect on good terms. Nothing shocking about either of those rumors.

As for Mike Palarca, tough decision to make. Family is certainly important as is a college education. Sometimes the pressure of athletics, college and family can be too much. Especially when your 2000 miles from your family. So, you have to give one of those 3 things up I expect most of us would choose to end our athletic career. I can't fault him for making that decision if he does.
