  • Re: NCAA 6thFan Contest

I'll try to help...as far as we know, the dead period is 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. (our time). Voting expires at 10:59.59 each day. By 11:05, the information has been updated and the days ranking chart shows the current (just past) day voting rank. During the 6-11 period, the meter's don't work (i.e., the red meter that shows how we are moving), but if our rank changes versus other teams, that shows (up or down). Don't ask me how the red/green meter (that changes to green when we have exceeded the previous day's vote number) is set each new day (i.e., we have recently moved that up from 78 to 74%). The only answer I can figure is that the voting previous day actually occurs some time before 11 p.m. (so that votes after "that time" are driving the meter down and so when 11 p.m. comes, we start at say down 88% of the previous day's vote (not 100%).

I hope a lot of the people who have been helping out, aren't just dropping out entirely or a lot...we still have 1 1/2 days left until this round ends. However, I don't care too much about that, as long as we come out of the chute hard and long after 11 p.m. Sunday night, so that we make sure we are in the Elite 8!

Thanks, you helped me get a few things clearer in my mind.

My theory is however, the votes during the "dead period" are counted and subtracted from 100%, giving the "new" red meter starting value for the next days voting meter. Why else would there be a "dead period" at all...it helps keep everything running smoother too.The lack of explanation of how all this works by the event sponser really leads to a lot of confusion and speculation.

When we look at the rank on the chart that comes up when you click "vote" ,is that for yesterday, if you look at it at say...5pm.
The reason I think that it is,... we couldn't possibly be assigned a rank til the days voting time has expired at 11:00 PM, so it has to be Yesterday's rank, but, the last dot on the chart has todays date and a rank, couldn't be todays rank when the voting time hasn't expired yet.
The only indicator they have that's real time is today's leading vote getter....correct?

Also, is the dead period 6-11 pm? Seems to be a good time to build up votes and close the gap or lengthen your lead while being "unseen" for 5 hrs to me.
Dead period is from 6-11pm, votes count but % doesn't change. % doesn't change during the dead period because votes are tallied for next days vote total. So vote totals stop for the day at 6pm (I think I am correct).

Thanks, that's the way I was thinking too.More specificaly that vote totals stop at 6 pm for the current day.....not 11:00 or midnight as I previously thought.

Would the way to verify this be to watch the meter exactly at 11:00 pm,or just a few minutes later,Jacks#1 fan mentioned 11:05 pm...it should switch from "dead meter" value to the "new" voting days starting red meter value.I'll watch it tonight if I remember to.The better we understand the process, the better we can monitor the activity.

Watch voting rank #'s 4,5, and 6 today, they ended yesterday ahead of us, so it's going to be a lttle more difficult moitoring their meters, they all have a bigger vote total ,so each 1% of their meter represents more votes than 1% on our meter for today or however long they finish ahead of us in voting.Yesterdays rank BYU #4,...#5Ark St,#6 UNC Greensboro. UCF posing minor threat at #7 ,ranking #1 in todays votes so far...could they cause #'s 4,5,6 to re-act and start a domino or ripple effect on everyone higher ....which would be a more direct threat....keep monitoring the situation

The % meter is reset just after 11pm.

What's it adjusted from 100% down to the starting value by? My theory is the "dead period" votes ,otherwise, I can't figure out the need to have the "dead period" for at all.

UCF just took number 6 spot....voting like crazy, there's still enough time for someone to steal our #3 if we don't respond quickly enough,if they keep charging

UNC Ashville and Texas Pan-AM still snoozing,i think UCF will take them both if they don't wake up....then we'll have to go....will be interesting to see how big UNC Ashvilles cushion is over UCF.If they hold off UCF,they'll probably gain on us if we don't match their voting....wonder how big our cushion is? Everyones watching each other it seems, because the pace slowed down, and everyone fears a "break out" like in the "tour de France" or marathon running.

Ok, I will try based on what I have seen.

Example: Monday Day vote totals are from 6 pm (previous day, Sunday)-6pm Monday.

So if your vote total was 100 votes for Monday and during dead period you had 20 votes. At 11 pm (or just after) then the % meter for Tuesday would be -80% (in the red).

                      Clear as mud?

I don't see them coming close. It took us a full day and a half to over take UT-PanAm and that was when we were going gangbusters (don't think UCF is reaching our top vote total from a few days ago). So until UCF overtakes UT-PanAm I will not take them too serious.

We are currently ranked 7th in today totals, Ashville is 19th so we are gaining votes on them.

Our cushion is significant. If I was a betting man I would go all in that we will finish the first round in third.

Appreciate the posters who are on now pushing the numbers down...just hit 47% and moving. I agree that I don't think UCF can catch us, but they may get it closer. Arkansas State is gaining a bit on NDSU...but wonder if that will hold up. Anyway, UWM, how do you see the daily vote totals? I think somebody may have posted that earlier, so I guess I can try to find that.
