I've heard that as well. Also heard that several current players were given offers to go to WSU. If this is true, that it is real dick move on Jimmy's part. I know that will offend a lot of people who are patting Jimmy on the back as he exits Brookings.
This is starting to remind me of Bono's exit.

I have no issue with Jimmy leaving. I have no issue with players following Jimmy provided the conversation went like this: "I'm leaving. I encourage you to stay. But if you hit the portal, I'd love to have you in BFE Washington." I agree its a dick move if he's asking players to come along before he's resigned his position here and inked his contract there.

Agreed. I get he wants to succeed and has relationships with these players but this feels dirty.

That said, I'm pretty damn encouraged by all the tweets today from players who are affirming their commitment to SDSU along with alums who have stepped up to encourage players to stay in Brookings. Many of them played under Jimmy the last few years.

I remember reading an article from a recruit that committed to UNLV after TJ left. He commented that while TJ was still employed by SDSU he would tell him "I want you to play for me next year no matter where I am coaching". I will never forget how bad that rubbed me that he was using SDSU resources while SDSU was paying his salary to recruit players to play for him and not SDSU.

It is encouraging, yes. However, the next days and weeks will be a bit like a long election night, waiting for returns to come in from critical precincts. Not hearing a lot from the biggest names yet.

            • Mark Gronowski on Nate Brown show says that he was a little sick to his stomach when he heard Jimmy was leaving for Wazzu. Says he's encourage players to stay or at least wait and see. Says there'll be guys that leave but here's be more players announcing that they are staying and that he thinks that fans will be pleased with the guys that stick around.

What an interview! Gronowski is a Jack through and through!

Definitely; link is here (at approx. -1:17:00 mark), if anyone wants to listen before they post it on Soundcloud.

Hell yes. Nothing makes me happier than South Dakota’s best playing for the yellow and blue. That’s loyalty. I may be more excited for next season than I was for this year.

This is something I'd like to see talked about more -- the chance for us as fans to rally around those who stay (and not wasting time disparaging those who leave)

                        • Hopefully Ostrowski changes his mind, he is back in the portal. With Hawthorne gone, we need some transfer D-line guys.

Zim mentioned multiple times in today's Happy Hour/Nobody's Listening Anyway that he thinks the head coaching gig is essentially his to lose and that Jackson was Jacks' "ace recruiter," so maybe he can work his magic.

It's certainly possible the right guy could reel both these guys back in. Probably easier to get Hawthorne back than Ostrowski since he was already here.

Hopefully the guys that are staying are reaching out to the recruiting class too.

i have defended Jimmy in EVERY single instance, but you will get no talk of being offended from me. the day will come when I will once again be wishing the best for Jimmy. but GREAT care was taken to hand him this program in the best possible position

those efforts have been disrespected. i did not expect him to stay for 20 years but he has talked loud and often about bleeding yellow and blue. the way he has gone about this has ACTIVELY harmed the program and there is zero chance he does not realize that

if he is also actively recruiting players on the way out the door that just does more damage. honestly he should have been banished from all the facilities the second there was a sniff of this. someone can pack his office for him. i would NEVER expect we would stop players who want to talk to him from talking to him!!! they have a relationship that is undeniable!!! but we should not make it easy for him to sit in SDSU facilities and recruit our players either
