PERFECTLY said!! OF COURSE some of his guys will have interest in going with him. no brainer!!!! but there is a correct way to do that and Jimmy knows better. i have to believe these are just rumors. if these rumors prove true it seems he may not be the person that I have always believed him to be. i am VERY frustrated with him but i am not ready to believe he would do something like this

That said, I'm pretty damn encouraged by all the tweets today from players who are affirming their commitment to SDSU along with alums who have stepped up to encourage players to stay in Brookings. Many of them played under Jimmy the last few years.
i have to believe there are plenty of players who have played for Jimmy that feel betrayed by this. think about Tucker and the Jankes and every other player who stayed when they had chances to think about the potential of greener grass. it is hard to imagine that this does not feel like a slap in the face

I will never forget how bad that rubbed me that he was using SDSU resources while SDSU was paying his salary to recruit players to play for him and not SDSU.
that feels not a surprise at all to me. TJ was NEVER an SDSU guy. this was never more than another step on a ladder for him. honestly he used Mike Daum and a great group of players for his own gain and made no effort to improve the program or leave it better than he found it

Jimmy on the other hand has been basically the ultimate Jackrabbit. talks about how Stig sold him on being a Jackrabbit in his high school living room and how this became his home. MANY MANY things about Jimmy leaving at this moment are a HUGE surprise. i am not ready to believe that he is doing what some of the rumors are saying. i DEFINITELY hope not!! if nothing else, I hope not for Stigs sake. he gave Jimmy an incredible gift. he deserves Jimmies best on the way out

YES he is!! I have zero question about his loyalty. if he takes one final year to play at a place to improve his draft chances, I wish him the very best. he is yet another player who has stayed when he could have gone only to now see this. i am sorry there is a LOT more to life than making every single penny you can. there will never be another place on the planet- EVEN in AZ- where Jimmy will be looked at the way he was viewed in Brookings
he was the hero anointed prince who became the king. he was a legend and a beloved adopted son. but yep definitely a few extra dollars is worth throwing that all away. i do sincerely wonder, was that too much to live up to? was it too much pressure? if it was, he sure did not show it. he appeared to eat pressure for breakfast along with his spinach

Hopefully the guys that are staying are reaching out to the recruiting class too.
            1. this is a big reason the coach needs to be announced quickly

            2. i guess some guys will not give the new coach a chance. if Jackson is the guy, I believe that many who give him a chance will decide to stay

            3. i DO NOT want trying to find a coach who will not leave to be the top priority, BUT stability does matter/ players want to know when they get recruited that the coach is going to stick around!!! i do believe this is an advantage for Jackson. he has been out in the world for a handful of years now. he has seen what the supposed greener pastures have to offer. i am not saying i will bet on him staying 20 years, BUT I AM WILLING to bet he will NOT be continually keeping one eye on the horizon. i do believe he would tell schools that he KNOWS how favorably Brookings compares to other parts of the NCAA FB world and he is not in a hurry to leave. i believe that is also a VERY believable story he can share with players

              • If this is true, Jimmy, Olson, Bobbit et al can kiss a hotdog. But to be fair, how will we view players who follow our new coach? Does the portal window open for players if a coordinator leaves? Or only a head coach.

                • That is way too many players on the defensive side of the ball for us to lose. Dan Jackson or whoever better get on the phone quick or it will be a long season next year.

How active are those players on Twitter (because the post doesn't say they're leaving, it says they haven't announced their intentions)?

It not a stretch to say the Jacks' recent track record of having players get drafted is better than WSU's, so I trust the new head coach can convince at least some of these players to stay. Plus, Jimmy the entire team at WSU hasn't left, so Jimmy will have to keep some of those players satisfied (or mine the portal too).

Players on that list who stay will move toward a Kraft, McCormick, Gronowski, Amar Johnson, etc. "status" for me, even if they only stay a year and then enter the portal. That at least shows they "gave Jacks a chance" next season.

A lot of talent on that list. O Line being another big one. Kudos to the guys who've already announced their intention to stay. Can't blame a kid for waiting to see who the new coach is before recommiting, though. I do think it's a bit of an uphill battle to get SD, IA, MN and WI kids to move to Pullman. I know Brookings isn't Manhatten but Pullman is a long ways away, isn't known for being a great town. I can't imagine parents and girlfriends are wild about the idea. If Jimmy and staff were taking over Nebraska or Iowa State, then I'd see a big exodus, but Wazzu has got to be a real tough sell.

Some guys will go, sure. Some will go somewhere else. I bet most come back. Maybe the wild card is NIL. Is Wazzu flush with NIL dollars?

                          • I’m hearing that there are 20 of our players in the portal, they just haven’t announced on X yet.

                            • Woods, Humphrey, Beerntsen, Leucena, Clayborne, Reeder, Francl, Large, etc all entering portal. New coach will have a chance to bring them back but it will be an up hill battle.

Gross. If I'm Large, Francl (if he plays again) or other top end of the list, I'd look around. They are obviously going to have a leg up for playing time in Pullman but could likely find more dollars elsewhere if they are intent on leaving SDSU.
