I'm not making excuses for this year's team, but let's not forget how slow out of the gate last year's team was, and how awful they looked in the first half of the championship game against Oakland.
Last time I checked the '08-'09 Jacks were led by a girl named "Wark" that was a defined leader and outscored a very good Oakland team in the second half of that title game by 20. An Oakland team that would rip this team to shreds if they played like they did last night. Fortuantely that Oakland team is no more.

For the WBB team, it is Oral Roberts this year. This Jacks team needs a leader to punch ORU in the mouth right out of the gate to beat them, not play like a bunch of freshman that don't appear to have played in any big games. I don't see it happening at this point.

Jenn had a terrible first half against Oakland. The whole team did. And the team had plenty of slow starts last year too.

Don't let's turn the '08-'09 Jacks into a team that was without flaws, that played perfectly wire to wire. It was a team with some of the same flaws that this team has.

The Intramural Building was new to me and seeing that nice shiney bb floor was quite a contrast from the tile floor of the WPA built Sinai gym. Also cant forget the digital scoreboard visible on four sides. We also parked about right in front of the admin building and walked down to the Barn. The one thing your daughter's story and mine have in common is a stop at Nicks, only ours was after and not before. Nick's apparently stayed open later in 1951 than what they do now.

I am sure it was a thrill to be a Junior Jack. Also must have been a thrill to see the Jacks win. My brother's team lost, but the thrill of being somewhere you have never been before is unforgetable.
Just wanted to clarify for Nidaros and anyone else, it was her first time to Nick's, not her first game. Sorry for the confusion. I love reading stories like this and finding out about the history of places.

I think it's very possible if not likely that Ryun will get in players that are a quite a bit more gifted offensively but if he can get them to play defense like this team does I foresee a big improvement in the overall success of the team.

USD held down a good Wisconsin Green Bay team and has done well defensively against UND as well. I believe that when the class of sophomores including Hegge and Roche become seniors the team will be quite a bit better.

It's really kind of a pointless argument to make because you will think what you will think regardless of what someone says that doesn't wear blue and yellow.

The game could have just as easily been a single digit game just as much as it being in the mid 20's or higher. The Jacks were pretty much at their big lead when the game ended.

At least this won't be a "what if" senario much longer becase the Jacks and Yotes will play again and when the venue changes every other game and the Yotes continue to roll it will be interesting to see where things will go. The game tonight wasn't really much different than the end of the D2 days as far as the closeness of the two teams. The Jacks tend to win by 20 at home and the game in Vermillion tends to be a buzzer beater.

My favorite memory of the game was the play where Macie Michelson and that #44 of the Coyotes--that stocky center of theirs--collided . . . our smallest player vs. their biggest player. I think Macie was run into a screen, if I recall correctly.

The collision was pretty much a tie--the smallest Jack vs. the biggest Coyote. Neither player really got the better of the collision, as I recall. Which means Macie won the encounter, on points. (A wrestling concept, for you USD folks reading along with us here . . . )

Macie is one tough hombre (and yeah, I know she's not an "hombre" . . . )

the final few years of the D2 days, my friends and I were ones who were body painted up. I would post a pic of it but damned if i know how.

We had our picture on the first page of the brookings register the day after both games. it was a lot of fun. Being front and center and when the student section was a bit closer to the court. It was packed and good times for sure. Oh yeah we took our picture with Jerry also. He told us to ask him to see them some time, wonder if he still has those.

glad to see people still painting up. Just wish they would get front row so people could see better, I think its fun having college kids show their true colors.

It was Dale. I was going to do it and thought better of it. Dale looked just slightly better than I would have. I damn sure would have had the exclamation mark after the U, however.

Coyotes coach Ryun Williams on the meaning of the event for hoops in South Dakota: "A lot of little girls were in the stands tonight - my two daughters were on the bench and they got to witness it. If they weren't excited about this and want to play for one of these two universities than something's wrong.

Perhaps he should have brought his girls to the Summit League tourney last year. Or perhaps the WNIT games versus Indiana or Creighton. Maybe the Oakland game in Frost last year or versus Missouri.

It you can't tell, it gets my goat that the USD staff and fans that were so ready to ridicule SDSU for making the move to DI are now right on our coattails trying to take advantage. Its a bunch a crap. A spade is a spade. If you went over to Vermillion tonight you wouldn't find 100 fans of USD women's basketball.

But you are right, who knows why he and his daughters were not at those other games that you mentioned. You would think that he would try to go to as many SDSU women's games with his family as possible.

Thanks, I'll clean it up next time. A little distracted by the whooping the Tarheels are taking at the hands of the Jackets tonight. Man, is UNC bad. Anyways....

You should just stick to observing. I'll help you out, try not to miss my point. When even the coach doesn't get it you might have a problem. No one at SDSU was waiting around for "the USD game" to happen. Those who have a clue have been watching SDSU's women a lot longer than last night. I realize it's just a quote after a game but let's have a little fun with it.

SDSU means everything to USD, I don't think the opposite applies.

P.S. I cleaned up the previous post, thanks, sorry for being redundant.

On the "coattails" of the two above posts, I got a kick out of Nielsen's quotes in the Argus about everyone working together for the betterment of South Dakota DI athletics. What a joke. In my opinion he is about 6 years late with those sentiments.

Just torques me off when people don't want to get along until it will help only them. God forbid you help and support us when we needed it. Even something as silly as a "Good for them, I hope they succeed and then we will look at it" sort of sentiment.
