  • Re: Usd

My only comment after watching the game is that USD has a ways to go to be a top half team in the Summit. Not meant as smack at all, just my opinion.

With their current roster, I don't see them beating SDSU, ORU, or Oakland. IPFW, NDSU, UMKC would be lucky to split. They probably beat WIU, SUU, and IUPUI at least 1 time. I don't know if they could win alot playing just 6 players, they looked pretty gassed about the time we went on our first half run. I seriously hope they have some nice recruits coming in or they may not qualify for the tourney in SF in a couple years...

...Ummm, no. We got any shot we wanted at any time. We missed about 10 wide open 3's. This was an ugly 19 pt win that probably should've been 40.

Get off the soapbox already USD is a good defensive team and had much to do with SDSU missing their shots. Sure SDSU missed some open looks but they were also guarded tight as well. The Coyotes almost always hold their opponents to under their average. On the other hand no one is talking about the fact that USD missed alot of makable shots as well although that is not atypical. For being the shorter team I thought USD was perhaps the better inside team.

I do agree that SDSU is much more talented player for player but if USD gets more talent in which they should, especially on offense they are going to be ALOT better than what they showed tonight.

The Yotes do like to slow the pace and they play disciplined but just don't have good scorers right now. I think Ryun Williams knows what he is doing but needs more horses to run with.

Now lets get some football and mens basketball going.

Disagree. You obviously were not watching the same game as the rest of us. udot struggled to get shots off before the shot clock expired on numerous occasions. We got all the open looks we wanted. I know you need to grasp at something, but you should look for something else to grasp at because you are missing badly with the defensive argument.

Back to the game, I agree with everyone on here that if not for an off shooting night this game is a REAL BIG blow out.

Filbert.... Because you have called the students out repeatedly this year I am calling you out. You stood up maybe three times during big moments tonight... Where the H*ll were you?
Actually, I only "called them out" once. Other times I was kinda begging for them to come out.

Students did good. Students did real good.

I totally blew out my voice on Saturday night vs. NDSU. I had nuthin' left for tonight, so I needed the students to represent--and they did. I managed to yell a couple of times during the USD game, with the result that it will be a really, really quiet drive home tomorrow.

SDSU was 15 or so possessions short of what we usually get. We hit a couple more threes, and it's a total blowout by five minutes into the second half.

How about USD playing defense with 20 seconds left, down 19? And at the end they got a couple of shoves in on Paluch. You stay classy, USD.
That was actually smart on his part. His team is not as deep as the Jacks. Because of this, he had to find a way to slow down the Jacks and get his team a breather where he could.

The little attempt at the very end for a steal was really uncalled for. The Jacks are just running out the clock and there wasn't a need for a foul, so why even attempt the steal. During a real game, a foul would have been called. Pretty lame I agree.

What a day for my daughter! One day after her birthday, we make the trip up and she gets her first Nick's burger. Then she asked for her second, then she asked for her third. She gets done and says, "They have a good recipe."

Stop by the downtown book store and check out the selection of Jacks gear. Many things she liked but decides to get the "I bleed blue & yellow" shirt at the game. She is pretty pumped up at this point.

But the best is yet to come and she gets a huge thrill as one of the Junior Jacks to be introduced with the team. When we are meeting with the staff to explain what they need to do it is really loud and the two girls can barely hear what they are being told. When the Jacks come back on the floor, it got even louder and the big smiles got a little more hesitant. Then they go through the stuff and as we head back to our seats, she tells me that it was pretty cool and she wasn't as nervous as she thought she was going to be.

As the game starts, she is not pleased with how things go, but in the end the Jacks get a comfortable win.

A night my daughter will never forget, and neither will her father.

We all know a team cannot be judged by one game etc etc. But, I want to ignore that concept for a moment. Let's say we somehow get tonight's USD team to play Saturday night's NDSU team. (Yeah, yeah, I know...can't make that comparison because tonight's SDSU team was different than Saturday night's SDSU team; but, go with me on this one....)

                    Who wins?

My take? Tonight's USD team beats Saturday night's NDSU team. Not by much, but USD wins.

Personally, I think the USD team, playing as it did tonight, would be a very acceptable member of the Summit League.

On the topic of the fans: I didn't see or hear anything highly offensive from the fans. I thought the manner in which fans conducted themselves in the first matchup in a sport with significant fan participation, would set a tone for future matchups. I think a good tone was set tonight.

Coyote Fan, your arguments are completely nonsensical. The outstanding defense you spoke of allowed a team that is known for its ability to hit 3 pt shots at least 9 looks in the first 6 minutes where no defender was within 10 feet of the shooter.

Glad you have such faith in your coach also. That is a classic set up line so you can always so you right about him. You know he is going to be great but if he isn't you started questioning back before most did. Pathetic.

Then you make the statement that if your team gets more talent it will get better. Please let us know what team is going to get worse if it gets more talent than it currently has? On second thought, why not try and put together a rational argument as to why I should not put back on the "ignore list"?

The first SDSU men's team to win a conference crown: 2009 Men's Cross Country; joined by 2009 conference champs Soccer; and the 2009 playoff football team (with Center Ryan McKnight hoisting the Dakota Marker for all to see).

A well-deserved standing ovation for the three honored teams!

Wouldn't it have been nice to bring out the Marker on Saturday. I think it would be nice for the Bison fans to see it since it has been in Brookings so long.

The Coyotes have players that play hard and play disciplined but don't necessarily have a great scoring touch, and as a matter of fact they usually don't score well most nights. I think what I am trying to say is that Ryun has them coached up to play as well as they can right now but I believe they play above their talent level. I think it's very possible if not likely that Ryun will get in players that are a quite a bit more gifted offensively but if he can get them to play defense like this team does I foresee a big improvement in the overall success of the team.

USD held down a good Wisconsin Green Bay team and has done well defensively against UND as well. I believe that when the class of sophomores including Hegge and Roche become seniors the team will be quite a bit better.

It's really kind of a pointless argument to make because you will think what you will think regardless of what someone says that doesn't wear blue and yellow.

The game could have just as easily been a single digit game just as much as it being in the mid 20's or higher. The Jacks were pretty much at their big lead when the game ended.

At least this won't be a "what if" senario much longer becase the Jacks and Yotes will play again and when the venue changes every other game and the Yotes continue to roll it will be interesting to see where things will go. The game tonight wasn't really much different than the end of the D2 days as far as the closeness of the two teams. The Jacks tend to win by 20 at home and the game in Vermillion tends to be a buzzer beater.

USD shut down the Jacks inside game the first ten minutes, and for a few stretches during the second half. They played a lot tougher defense than I was expecting. Offense wasn't much of a surprise.

Jacks played very very tight most of the first half. They loosened up somewhere around the eleven minute mark. It was odd, it was one of the occasions they were down 6, but they suddenly snapped into focus, as it were, on offense. It was just a matter of time after that.
