Here's a nice little story from USD about former Yankton High School teammates Ketty Cornemann and USD's Kara Iverson meeting on the court for the first time as opponents.

The article seems to be missing. Hope they get it back up as the meeting between these two former teammates and friends is just one more interesting aspect of the game on Monday.

The link refers to installing Flash Player. Perhaps it is a video. I didn't have time to check it out and couldn't download Flash Player at work.

From the Yankton paper. I posted a few exerpts as well. Might have to move to the smack section. I remember the game in Vermillion in 2003. I don't remember SDSU fans behind USD's bench throwing carrots. In fact, very few SDSU fans were even allowed to sit courtside as I recall.

In the three seasons Koupal spent at USD after transferring from SDSU, she played in eight of those “big” games — with the Jackrabbits winning six. The most memorable of those showdowns was likely the North Central Regional final in 2003 at Frost Arena in Brookings.

That contest, won by SDSU which went on to the Division II national title, was also the final rivalry game in Olson’s four-year career.

Olson, a Yankton native who graduated in 2003, said her first reaction to seeing USD’s 2009-10 women’s basketball schedule was one of relief and elation.

“I remember thinking, ‘It’s about time,’” she said this week. “The last time State played in the Dome, it made me pretty sad. Those were exciting games, and I hated that it ended.”

In looking back at her career against the Jackrabbits, Olson said she vividly remembers the last State-U game she played in inside the DakotaDome, on Feb. 15, 2003 — a game in which the Coyotes beat second-ranked SDSU.

“I remember there were four technical fouls,” Olson said with a chuckle. In that game, she scored 26 points to guide USD to an 87-83 victory.

“The SDSU fans behind their bench were throwing carrots out on the court,” she added. “There’s a rumor that it was actually a USD person doing it, but they couldn’t find out who did it. We were getting pretty frustrated; the game was so close.”

James is sending three to the game on Monday, One person who is red (to blog), one who is blue (wonder who that could be, to do photos) and one who is neutral to write the story, I think he was a MMC grad.

                so will be good coverage.

Ummm, the only people from SDSU who were allowed that close to the court were the season ticket holders/donors and there wasn't a lot of them even allowed down there. Considering this fact, I highly doubt it was actually a SDSU fan throwing carrots on the court. The majority of SDSU fans have to sit in the football seats. Chuckling about 4 technicals? What an idiot.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

My wife and I were sitting behind the SDSU bench during that game and I can attest that no carrots were being thrown from that area. Carrots were flying out of the USD student section though. Their students really didn't seem to care that the helped their team lose. Gotta love that. I remember the USD security looking for the culprit(s) in the student section and the students kept pointing at the SDSU fans behind the bench trying to blame it on them. Good try.

                        Re: Usd

So we're supposed to believe that SDSU fans planned to force technical calls against USD by smuggling in carrots and tossing them on the floor from behind the SDSU bench? Did they then pretend to be USD fans by wearing red and cheering against the Rabbits, too? Conspiracy much?

Both fan bases have had their bad moments (some, by USD fans, worse than others). But that's a bit much to believe.

Heather is a neighbor and her mother works at the hospital here. They are great people and staunch USD supporters. I can see why she would choose to remember it the way she did. Jacks need to crush them Monday.

A bit off a tough trip up today. 20 to 30 cars in ditch. I 29 south bound blocked by accident just south of Brkgs. Give yourself extra time and don't overdrive the conditions.

I WAS at the game in 2003, and I WAS among the 36 people able to sit behind our team at courtside (along with mostly parents of the players and some SDSU administrators). There WERE NO CARROTS thrown by the SDSU folks (we were all complaining to each other like mad because the carrots could have injured any player that stepped on one)...that was the crap put out by USD officials who felt they must have come from the SDSU section because they "couldn't identify" any coming from the USD Coyote Crazies standing behind the south basket. Yeh, right!
