You should just stick to observing. I'll help you out, try not to miss my point. When even the coach doesn't get it you might have a problem. No one at SDSU was waiting around for "the USD game" to happen. Those who have a clue have been watching SDSU's women a lot longer than last night. I realize it's just a quote after a game but let's have a little fun with it.

SDSU means everything to USD, I don't think the opposite applies.

P.S. I cleaned up the previous post, thanks, sorry for being redundant.
SDSU does not mean everything to USD. How many Coyote fans were in the crowd, maybe 300, maybe 500 I am not sure. If USD means everything to SDSU I want you to read the following facts.

      1. USD had something like 300 fans in Frost last night but I am unsure because the camera didn't pan on the whole crowd when I was watching. I did not go to the game because the meaning of the game was not nearly as important as other NCAA playoff games that I have been to. I was at the regional at Brookings in 2003.

      2. USD had 2,000-2,500 fans in Kearney Nebraska which is a 5 hour drive from Vermillion for the D2 championship game in 2008. What that shows me is that USD basketball fans care about success roughly 10 times greater than they care about SDSU.

      3. In the D2 days in football it would not be uncommon to have only 5 or 6 thousands fans attend a State U game in Vermillion and I know that happened in Brookings as well. That included maybe 1,000 Jacks fans. Nowadays USD is averaging 8,000 regularly. Part of that is due to winning and part of it due to being a D1 programs playing D1 competition. The 8,000 average included about 2 games a year that were not very disirable competitively. The spike in attendance can be attributed to the program making a remarkable turnaround on the field. USD's attendance should jump to about 10,000 a game in short order because the opponents will be much more attractable games going forward.

So to say that SDSU is everything to USD is a very difficult argument to make based on pure facts. Gosh those pesky little things called truths can be very difficult to deal with sometimes.

Fact: Estimates are not facts, especially when the person doing the estimating didn't even attend the game (USD/SDSU). A fact would be: 351 people who purchased tickets claimed on their ticket survey to be Coyote fans.

Plus, I think most people that are even semi familiar with USD know how they keep attendance (here's a hint: it has nothing to do with actual people).

USD's attendance figures are as "truthful" as your repeated claims not to be a USD homer.

I can certainly understand the frustration. I grew up in Brookings, the son of an SDSU administrator, so I know every detail of literally every rotten thing USD has done to SDSU in the last four decades.

            And I'm over it.

I thought it was great fun to have more than 100 opposing fans in Frost for the first time in many years. It was fun to beat up on USD for real, after listening for years about how D2 is the same as D1. I think our student athletes enjoy competing against their friends who chose a different university than they did. The short road trips will be nice for our athletes. USD is a huge upgrade for the Summit over Centenary. There are many, many advantages to all of this. And I'm going to try to enjoy it rather than dwell on the past.

I'm not saying anybody who's angry should forget it. But the message that we MUST make a fresh start is pretty clear from President Chicoine to Justin Sell to AJ and Scott Nagy and on down the line. I am going to follow their lead and I hope many other fans are able to do so as well.

A very wise man on this board often suggests that we not let others rent space in our heads. Good advice. Life is too short.

I am still amazed at the amount of anger from SDSU fans.

Sure, I wasn't very pleased with the way things were handled down in Verm when SDSU made the jump, but the amount of winning that SDSU has had made that all disappear for me...

I will do my best to sum up this thread so that people don't have to read thru everything:

                  CF: USD good. SDSU Better.
Random SDSUFAN poster: USD is bad. SDSU Good.

Landlord. I don't have the managerial skills to be on the rent-paying end.

Not to drag this one out, but my buddies and I made on interesting observation. We saw Ed "the mouth" Meirkort attended the game on Monday night. If you want to compare whether this game was more important to USD or SDSU, then ask yourself if Stig would have gone to Vermillion on a Monday night to watch a women's basketball game. Enough said...heck, he probably wasn't even at Frost on Monday.

He was actually, I saw him standing in the entryway down by the court.

I'm told by somebody who sat down below the USD students' section that there were very loud "F*** the Bunnies" chants coming from that section. And Mierkort and Nielsen were sitting in the next section over doing nothing.

                              They still don't get it.

So, did the people actually responsible for crowd control in Frost (you know, the ushers, SDSU staff and/or the various police officers) take any action about the public vulgarity? Did the person/people hearing the chants complain about it to any of the above?

I'm not sure it's totally fair to single out the USD administrators or coaches in attendance for failing to act. It's SDSU's responsibility--it's SDSU's building.

On the other hand, it is true that the best way to control this is for the fans to police their own. So, maybe a missed "teaching opportunity" for any USD athletic staff who were present. A well-timed "come on, guys, tone it down" to your own will always be the best way to attack the issue.
