How many recruits can they sign for class of 2010? I see Ashley from Roosy and Barden from Sturgis both made 1st team all state, I think both are worth major looks. They will have big summers I bet with a lot of teams checking them out. Does anyone know what traveling teams they are with?
I see that Barden is with the Schoolers:

So , that brings up an intresting question, do you start passing over 1st team all staters if they play a position that your heavy in, in favor of a lesser quality player who play's a position that your short in, or do you get all the best players you can & build the team around them? Seems like tall athletic types are really hard to recruit. They get all kinds of offers from all over the country. We only get a chance at the "home body " types if they're local & want to stay close to home. That's one of the "major" gripes about the University of Minnesota's fans is that Minn produces so many Div 1 caliber players & so few of them end up as gophers, i think they did better in that regard this year though.

        Re: 2010 Recruiting

The state of Minnesota is a hotbed for high school talent. I believe there are 24 D1 kids in the class of 2009 alone. That's not counting the number of kids who will be playing D2 in state. The Gophers can't offer all those kids a scholarship so it's impossible to keep them all....and yes, Gopher fans gripe about it, but the math makes it impossible. I think SDSU has to continue to hit Minnesota hard on the recruiting trail.

My response to jackdaniel (great name by the way - now I'm thirsty) asking if you pass over 1st team all state kids if you're heavy at a position already? I would say that if that particular 1st team all state kid is a player who will make a big difference in your program, then recruit them. If they are similar to what you already have at the position you are heavy in already, then you need to go out and fill your needs. Obviously if you are heavy at certain positions it must mean you are not at others, so you can't ignore those needs.

I think the answer to the question is you get the best player that can fit into your system. I am guessing you have someone in mind as, from my understanding, there is only one 1st team all-stater on this year's AA team that is not being recruited by SDSU. I don't know why, or what for but the easy answer is that AJ has done pretty well for himself so I'll certainly defer to his judgement.

Totally agree with you. They way the Jacks players switch off on defense means they have to be able to play different positions. If the players fit that 'mold', I believe AJ is going after them. Might be a little different if you get a true center. I also think AJ has done a very good job of finding team players. With all the points some of these ladies scored in high school (esp. Jill and Jenn), you have to know if the player is willing to put the team ahead of everything else. I think you have seen the answer as the team scoring is spread out.

I'd say, look for program's like USD & other area mid-majors to benefit from SDSU not having as many scholarships to throw around as they,ve had, maybe even some major conferences as well, depending on what the individual recruit 's talent level is & what thier preferences are in a University.I think AAU program's are a one way ticket for great athlete's to leave the state, as most top notch players alway's seem to gravitate toward the "bigger is better " theme in Athletic conferences.Hopefully, with fewer scholarships to give out, we keep getting top notch recruits to keep the talent level as high as it is now, or better yet , better!!

The AAU has been around for a long time, and all the summer bb activities make them viable long into the future. I don't see how any one with talent will avoid the AAU functions in order to gain exposure. I think SDSU specifically is powerless in stopping prospect recruits from particiapating in AAU events. The other side of the coin is SDSU probably has found recruits at AAU events also. I do agree with your points about filled scholarships allowing others such as USD in picking up recruits. I saw something over on the USD board about the women's program signing a JUCO. It sounded as though they dont have many scholarships left to offer so, they may not be benefiting from SDSU multiple choices.

Here's a nice article on the Gabby and Maria Boever's family and their March Madness. Gabby's Worthington team was in the Minnesota state tournament the same time SDSU was playing in Lubbock.

Meh. I think they find recruits at National Honor Society meetings. They go there and look for tall girls....

It's funny I used to be a Nebraska fan prior to the move to DI, but not so much anymore!

Watched Lyndsay Johnson from Harrisburg play and she could be someone the Jacks look at. She is listed at 6:2 and plays the post really well.

Another 2010 verbal for the Jackrabbits! Hannah Strop from New Prague High School in New Prague, MN has given verballed SDSU. There is a link below that shows the announcement and a picture of Hannah. I saw her play at the state tournament in Minnesota. She is a physical player. This is a good addition to the Jackrabbits.
