    The NCAA News

The NCAA’s National Invitation Tournament Selection Committee has decided to guarantee regular-season conference champions a berth in the postseason as a way to assure quality and integrity in the selection process.

The NIT Selection Committee conducted its inaugural meeting in Atlanta in late January and ratified initial selection procedures that will be used in conjunction with this year’s postseason event.

As a result, the regular-season champion from each of the 31 Division I conferences will now be guaranteed a postseason berth with the newly created automatic qualifier to the NIT Postseason, in the event the team is not otherwise in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

“The committee was unanimous in its view on this matter,” said committee Chair C.M. Newton. “It formalizes what postseason basketball should be – a reward for success throughout the regular season.”

The committee also decided that a winning record would not be a prerequisite for teams to qualify for the postseason tournament.
Someone posted this news about the men's NIT some time ago. Not sure it pertains to the women's NIT in anyway. As I understand it, the NCAA now owns the men's NIT but not the women's. Maybe I am wrong. Either way I don't think it affects SDSU's chances this year. Perhaps that isn't your point.

More movement today, even though we have not played any games. As other teams lose, we should move up.

Here's a mother lode of women's basketball ratings:

This averages all of the various rankings and spits out a #91 for SDSU.

This guy here: http://members.aol.com/powerrater/w-basket.htm has to be a closet Jackrabbit. He rates the women at #64.

Hey Jackmd. my bad didnt know it had been posted. I posted it, not to make a point, just thought it was interesting. Every conference has an auto bid, most will go to the NCAA allowing the NIT auto bids to trickle down. I thought it was favorable news for both of our Universities.

When is the selection for the WNIT?? Did I see it was around March 14th or close to that date?? And does anyone know, do the women keep practicing until then?? That would be wierd, practicing, yet not knowing if you were really going to play again?? Oh how I would love to see a first round game at Frost!! We can only hope!!!

                        Montana in the Big Sky
                        Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the Horizon
                        Dartmouth in the Ivy

                        Western Illinois in the Mid-Con
Tennessee Tech in the Ohio Valley
Stephen F. Austin in the Southland

Root for the following to lose the rest of their games (.500 or below and need to stay that way):
Arkansas St (13-14, vs. Troy and Sun Belt tournament)
Auburn (13-14, vs. South Carolina in SEC tournament)
Georgia Tech (13-14, at Miami, and ACC tournament)
Missouri State (14-14, vs Wichita St. and MVC tournament)
Arkansas (13-14, Mississippi in SEC Tournament)
Oregon (14-14, Arizona in Pac-10 Tournament)

This should give you more than enough teams to root against in the next week or two . . .  ;D
UW-Milwaukee Womens team won the Horizon League automatic bid. Which helps out the Jacks!

Its not all about RPI. The NIT is like the bowl games, more about moeny and good games. If the committe feels that SDSU fans will travel with the team they will get more consideration than a team ranked higher than them in the RPI.
