  • Any red shirts this season , we have so much depth this season. What roles will , players not mentioned yet, Holselton, Felchle, Dunn, Shepard, Behrens, Fox, Mathiowetz, play? so many questions to ask, so many pieces of the puzzle to put together. We probably won't see the whole picture until the season begins and we see it play out. I'm not good enough to figure out the positional depth charts like the more knowledgeable posters can, so kind of wondering about that too. I know changes occur during the season , shifting of players around , etc. Maybe I'm just a tad bit too impatient to wait a little further down the line when people will bring these all up later with better insight and I'm just jumping the gun some. I do hope we see a lot of pleasant surprises throughout the season and very some good development of the players who haven't seen the court much yet. It will be a fun season for sure.

I believe Maddie M will be the leader of the team along with Brooklyn. I do believe that Kolbeck is also going to be a leader, no matter how much she plays or not.

I think Maddie M will have a big year. one of her, Vaseca, or Hartwig will be first team all conference and maybe 2 of them. I am putting odds on Maddie. that will be a big change for her!! she has been a total team player and always been willing to do all the other stuff and let the shots go to others first. she had a HUGE second half in the SLT Final. I think she was a huge key in the OSU game. she WAS the spark in the 3rd Q when the game turned around. she hit big shots vs UConn
there will be plenty of talent on this team!! and I can imagine her sliding back into a support role, but I am taking the guess that she does not. I think those final 3 games put her on the path to a big final year

I think Hartwig is going to be a great player for us. a perfect complement to Brooklyn, with a perimeter game that is more developed than Mesa's. please do not take that as ANY disrespect to Mesa. I think she is one of the most underrated players we have ever had. Mesa was awesome PERIOD!! i will miss her like crazy. I just think Maggie is going to be great in a slightly different way that will be very very hard for teams to deal with alongside Brooklyn

I think Vaseca is going to be an all time great and she could jump the curve and be first team all conference this year!! but my guess is that she has a fantastic year this year and she is the leader of the team for the next two years. Her and Maggie will be dominant and deadly next year, after playing fantastic supporting roles to Brooklyn and Maddie this year

it is still April. the season starts in October or November, but you said you wanted way too early predictions. I have no inside info. I would call these more guesses than predictions, but I gave you something to read anyway))

we are going to be super talented!! we will have a TON of young players who will develop during the year and I think we will see roles change as the year goes.

here is a little more for you

      Game one starters

      PG- Abdouch
      2 guard- Maddie
      3 - Katie V
      4- Maggie
5- Brooklyn- preseason and postseason POY

Kolbeck- I do believe there is a chance she is the starter at PG.
Fox- this is the end of the list for players returning to the team who have played minutes outside of mop up

last year with all the returns from injuries we were loaded with players with playing experience. this year we have 5 players who have played meaningful minutes for SDSU. we have plenty of other talented players. it is different from last year, but not any reason for panic!!!!

I believe these 7 will be leaned on to start the year. 7 meaning the 5 with experience at SDSU- Brooklyn, Maddie, Katie, Ellie, Emily- RS Abdouch- and very talented transfer Maggie

my guess is that Thul is the next player and I think her role could change a lot over the year. I do think it is possible she starts in game 1, but I am not betting on it.

Hillary is next I think she has a big opportunity. if she is ready, she could even start games this year. she could be a key bench player this year and a starter next year. I think it is also possible she gets passed by Thul and Holselton and plays pretty small minutes

I think that is the top 10, but Dunn and Shepphard could definitely surprise. my guess is Felchle gets a RS, but I could be totally wrong too

I also guess that by some point AJ is going to lean very heavy on less players than last year. I could see it being largely a 6 player rotation. just like when we had Myah, the versatility of Vaseca allows her to play almost every position instead of needing specific subs for most of the spots

i have lots of thoughts. that should be no surprise. i will leave it with these for now

          • Hartwig could be great, but where this team will really miss Byom is on the defensive side of the ball. With Timmer and her gone, defense likely not as salty as this year.

in my mind there could never be too many complements for Mesa. excellent defender!! I believe she is one of the best rebounders we have ever had- back to back seasons with 12 rebound games in ncaa tourney games. she is a great passer. great FT shooter. and on a team with less scoring options, or a team without the best post player in the conference, she would be a very good scorer too. and Kallie is also an elite defender and rebounder

that said, I will be surprised if our defense falls off dramatically. it will be different. i have doubts about it being too much worse. excellent defense is a major part of the foundation of AJs program. he will find a way with the current roster to be excellent defensively

for one thing Vaseca will be playing more minutes. she is a versatile and excellent defender. her length causes problems. if one of Vaseca or Thul is able to play point- and i believe it is very possible that both of them will be able to, AJ could put a very long team on the floor
              Brooklyn 6'2
              Katie 6'2
              Thul 6'2
              Hartwig 6'1
              Maddie 5'10

we have not had that type of length and versatility since we had Macy and Myah together

Mesa's length will definitely be missed on defense. But Maggie is a great rebounder. She has 517 rebounds in her two seasons at Evansville , compared to 452 for Mesa in her last two seasons. Brooklyn combined with Maggie should be able to dominate the boards.
