      Re: AJ's Future

I've got to admit, I'm a little nervous that if AJ ends up at UM, some upcoming recruits may potentially end up there as well...specifically one from Mitchell.

I'm assuming you are referring to Macy. The only way Macy doesn't come is if she requests to be let out of her letter of intent and SDSU grants it. I think she also has the option of not coming to SDSU regardless of their decision, but that would force her to sit out a year - not totally clear on that one. You could Google "Eddie Vanderdoes Notre Dame" to get an idea of how the process works.

If that happens, AJ's image at SDSU would be forever tainted.

All that said, not going to happen.

Edit: Macy can enroll wherever she wants, but without a release from SDSU, she would have had to sit out a season while losing a year of eligibility.

          Re: AJ's Future

KSTP sports guy Darren Wolfson has tweeted two additional names on the Minnesota list: Davidson coach Michele Savage and Wright St. coach Mike Bradbury.

I think people are just throwing some names up there...it's tough to accurately determine whether any conversations are taking place and who the Gophers administrators are talking to or about.

Doesn't change my thoughts at all. You put what you want on the table and begin the negotiations. He doesn't have that option at SDSU. What does he have to lose by asking for what he thinks it should take to hire him away from the Jackrabbits?? I don't see the downside. If U of Minn walks away, so be it.

Now, this is all under the assumption that he isn't actively looking for a new position. That assumption is based upon his actions in the past. That may all have changed. He is now married, has children and may want to get back to Minnesota where he is from. If that is the case then I think he is as good as gone.

Time will tell. I think AJ has put himself in a great position. Kudos to him.

              Re: AJ's Future

AJ is certainly a worthy contender for the position, and he probably would do a great job. But my money is on the coach from Wichita State or the assistant from Notre Dame.

IMHO, AJ will be a favorable target of MANY a major program, but few would be a better fit for him than Minn. He has done an outstanding job, weathered the D-II to D-1 transition better than virtually any coach has, and has built SDSU into a consistent mid-Major power. Should he choose to move to another coaching job, we SDSU fans will look at his tenure and remark "Wow, what he did is fabulous". Today, and hopefully Sat., Jacks will rise to a level that may never be seen again. When Jacks won in the 2009 NCAA, and lost on the heart-breaker to Baylor, did we foresee making a run like this season's?

The team next year is likely to be even better than this talented group. It will take a very good position, such as a B1G type head coach to pull him out of Brookings. SDSU will likely never reach a level that staying at SDSU would ever trump a head coaching position at a consistent, multi-bid BB, top 10 RPI, conference school. Much better problem to have than canning an underperforming coach, and trying to find the next superstar.

Wichita State's Jody Adams not interested.

AJ closes the post game interview with a casual, "we'll be back to do this again next year."

                    Interesting.

Also said something about how he couldn't wait to see the seniors next year. I'm paraphrasing but that is close to what he said.

He isn't going anywhere. Maybe eventually....but not now.

All we have is a news story, although written by a reliable source, it could be very wrong. Especially since UM most likely has not contacted AJ.

It would stink to loose him considering he has recruits verballed out to 2017

There you go. Also maybe they are waiting on Notre Dame to finish their season, and their coach will be pilfered and not our.
