    Re: AJ's Future

50/50 chance, either they offer or don't, either he takes it or doesn't, money may or may not factor in. They have a great house in a nice neighborhood of Brookings, 10 min commute, tremendous support and a great program. More money and a greater challenge could lure him away but I think he stays. If not Sell and staff are quite capable of bringing in another one to hand the keys to, they've done well in the past(Bono, Christianson). Sure not all hires have gone as well, there have been some duds. As attractive as this team is and how well positioned they are to succeed, I somehow think we'll have plenty of great choices. Heck might even be able to stay in house, two of the assistants would be fine choices. Jewett has head coaching experience, Falco's resume' and 5 year experience shows she knows the Jackrabbit way. Either way it was a great year and AJ and crew did a tremendous job.

I was thinking about this last night too, if he did happen to go... I would imagine Falco/Jewett and possibly Emilee Thiesse would be possible options.

That said... I think he stays. And this 10 page thread is moot.

Agreed, although I fear my post will push it to 11 pages.

Totally whiffed on the Thiesse option, yes she would be an excellent contender, would make the in state battle even more interesting.

Cue the Rocky IV music "no holds barred in Brookings!"

IMO, if he is going to leave it will be sooner rather than later. He really is only uprooting himself and his wife. If he waits too long to take a chance, he will be uprooting kids from school and long-term friends. Just my 2 cents.

It's premature to be throwing names of prospective coaches out for consideration, but our speculation is running wild so what the heck: Megan Vogel.

              Re: AJ's Future

AJ has a great situation at SDSU and in Brookings. However, SDSU is in the Summit, and looks to be a mid-major, one auto-bid only conference, member for the foreseeable future. If a multi-bid league school, especially in the upper-Midwest made AJ an offer of a head coaching position, with the associated comparible salary and other pay benefits, he would truly be saying that he's at SDSU to stay if offered, and doesn't take. If he desires to become a NCAA final 4 type coach, on a consistent basis, he'll never have the resources or the opportunities to do so at SDSU, he will need to move to that larger BCS type school.

Whether we Jacks fans will be blessed with AJ's presence for future seasons, or he negotiates to go to a BCS school, we will always be able to savor that fabulous 14 seasons that he has provided. Hopefully, we can find a strong protege` of AJ's platooning system. He has shown how to make that work.

That may be the part of no comment on speculations. He could also say that he is interested in the Stanford job and satisfy our curiosity about that one as well.

Or let the speculation continue and parlay it into a nice pay raise.

True that. There is a limit however, and although our school has done better with coaches pay, their pockets are not that deep.

This is my most favorite thread on this board since the last time there was speculation that either AJ or Nagy was leaving.

What I wonder about is, if I had the chance to earn $180,000 annually (and more over time) for the next 25 years or so, doing a job I love, in a community that provides a great lifestyle for my family, where I can more than likely continue to achieve success as I have for the past ten years, cement a legacy and retire fat and happy, would I choose this. Or, would I take double the money for a job with immensely more stress and pressure at a significantly larger institution, have my family living in a suburb where we may move a few times trying to find the right fit for schools, where realistically I may only be at the job for 10 years depending on my level of success, then who knows where the heck I'll end up. I know what my choice would be personally if given the opportunity.

Also, there's discussion of the known of AJ's salary ($180,000 per year per the state) versus the known of Borton's base plus incentives. Is there an unknown component to AJ (and the other SDSU head coach's compensation) that is I play?

What I really, really hope is that it comes out that AJ was never in contention for the job and the StarTribune writer that got the ball rolling on this story was just way off base.

And has anyone thought that maybe AJ is providing "no comment" and he and Laurie are sitting at home laughing at all of the speculation knowing deep down he's not going anywhere? That my friends, would be funny.

Would the three NIT wins this year change that one-bid-for-the-Summit situation? Discuss.

                              You mean 4 wins.

As some one else made the correcting comment of 4 NIT wins, I skip over that and discuss the SL becoming a more than one bid as the result of these wins. I have my doubts. Off hand how many can recall the who won the WNIT last year? I know I cant, and this tourney has to cost some body money since the crowds with the exception of UTEP have been small. UTEP discounted the price of tickets to get people out and in the stands. That could not be a money maker even for UTEP. So going deep in the NCAA tourney opens eyes of the committee, but not the WNIT. I would say no, SL will be one bid until someone reaches the sweet sixteen in a consistent manner.
