Unlike washingtons football team their basketball team is more average then anything. Didn't know those schools played across divisions.

Did a Google as I was about to ask the same question as rabidrabbit.

        Here is what I found.

This game was part of tournament sponsored by Dakota Schoolers.

So you're sayin no A or B basketball team in the history of SD could beat a top ranked AA team?? OK then. How many SD AA players are on State's roster again??

I apologize in advance for the thread drift my response to this bulls&*t post may cause.

1... 2009 would have been good but SFL I think would have still pulled it off. There are good players in A or B but as far as teams go? No

A least 1, Branden Carlson, Brookings. Lane Severyn, Pierre, will be the next AA player. Madison, with Chad and Tony, would have been the last smaller school with a reasonable shot of making the AA final four, if not winning the SD title.

But, what do I know, I'm just a long-distance watcher now.

Well their are a number of AA and sioux falls kids on seveal D1 school. Several of the AA players we recruited the last few years we got 1 coming from pierre and one in pierre is going to a pretty good school. Another last year I think is at utep another went to florida etc. Calrson is from a AA school.

In basketball yes, football...not very likely. I watched the Clark/Washington and Roncolli/O'G game yesterday. Both smaller schools played well and beat 2 dog**** AA teams. Both of their fansbases were very vocal, as they should be, but had either played a decent AA team they would have lost. Not saying this would happen all the time, but yesterday neither Clark or Roncalli was very impressive. It was fun to watch the best small school players take on the big school teams. I was hoping to see Skyler Flatten take over the game, but he never really got much done.

In the history, yes there are A and B teams who could beat upper ranked AA teams. Not this year, and it would take a special team for it to happen again. It is just getting to the point where the AA schools are getting larger and except for a few higher A schools everyone else is getting smaller. My high school, who when I was in JH had a 7th, 8th, freshman, B and A squad, now has a 6-9 team a B team where many of the JH kids play for and then varsity, and its a A school and I'm not that old, many of the smaller schools don't even have JH or Freshman teams any more.

I wish more AA schools would play the A schools, but with the lack of JH, Freshman, and B games with how the state organizes everything it just doesn't work in many situations.

I remember Miller taking the championship in the State A Tournament,(no AA in them days)So,not only did small schools beat the big schools, they took the State championship from them.

Most of the great collegiate players in SD were from small towns.....Tetzlaf,Brown,Colburn,Nissen,Thomas,to name a few, some of their pictures are hanging on the wall at Frost Arena.

After 1985,went to three classes,Here's list of past champions....http://sports.sdpb.org/history/baske...basketball.htm

That 1972 Rustler team is one of the best teams all-time in SD High School basketball history. I was not alive then, but have heard lots and lots of stories about that team.

Saying that the small schools can't ever beat the big schools is just plain not true.

Yes, Miller, Armour had some really good teams, there have been others, what prevents it though is role players and depth of players. The Madison team that Tony and Chad were on was a good one, they had depth, and role players. St. Thomas Moore has had some really good teams without producing a big name D-I recruit (have had a few lower D-I/D-II recruits but nothing major).

                                Understatement. That's my bad.
