But he is coming to SDSU so he will be good. Just hope fans dont expect him to score 40 a game in college every night.

I'd be happy with "just" 15 points per night and some decent defense....

I don't know anything about Broman (aside form his crazy scoring stats), but my uneducated guess would be that he will redshirt also. There are four freshman on the current roster listed as guards (plus Donlan, a G/F). Hopefully one or two of them will be ready to come off the bench next year.

I watched some of the Mike Miller Classic this weekend and came away with a few thoughts.

-Zach Hanson is a beast, I wish Pierre would have played more than one game. In the Pierre Vs Our Savior (Private NYC suburb school), Hanson was the best player on the floor. He has a full repertoire of shots, wish you don't usually see by a hs big man. He can shoot the 15-18ft shot and does a great job of finishing near the basket. He probably had 5 or 6 dunks. Hanson finished with 30 points and had a double-double. I think we should of sacked up and made a few illegal payments to get him here .

-Lane Severyn has put on muscle since I saw him play last year. He is a good ball handler, and very strong. He also has a little edge to his game that I haven't seen before from him. He doesn't look afraid to get physical and isn't afraid to commit the hard foul, maybe he could carry the role that Griff started once he gets here. As of right now he is more of a slasher and needs to work on his 3-ball. He had no problem handling the ball against the quicker guards from Our Savior. He finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds.

-Now for a non-recruit of ours, Tanner Heiser 6'0 guard from Watertown. That kid is a pure scorer. If he doesn't go D2, I would hope that we afford him an opportunity to walk on. He had no problem dealing with the pressure of The Rock, Florida team. The Florida team has 11 guys going on to play college ball, including a center going to Kansas (that kid can sky).

-Overall La Lumiere, Indiana was probably the best out of state team their followed by Our Savior, Ny and DeLaSalle, MN(The have a big time center also) and The Rock, FL. Coronado, Nevada wasn't any better than the SD teams other than Washington. Roosevelt beat The Rock and Lincoln beat Coronado. Pierre lost in overtime to Our Savior.

Tanner's sister is Tara Heiser. His mother is Pam Stevenson and she played at SDSU. His aunt is Karla Stevenson (basketball SDSU), uncles are Matt (baseball SDSU) and Mark (football SDSU). Not sure where he will play. If he wants to see the court consistently he'll be at Northern or another DII program in the area. If he is willing to play a role I think he would be a great fit at SDSU.

Some have suggested that Hanson might be one of the best offensive big men the state has ever produced. If SDSU is to become a mid-major power similar to Gonzaga or Butler, they will need to keep the best of the in-state prospects at home. I would like to see both Cedric Lang (UTEP) 6-10 and Cody Larson (Florida) 6-9 on this years team. Add in Hanson (Creighton) 6-9 and you have three outstandings players and combined with Dykstra, Heemstra, and Devine constitute a formidable front line. Plus, with Carlson, White, Hortsman, Severyn, and Flatten (all South Dakota natives) at the wings, the potential and depth would be very good. I know it is hard to recruit them all, but it would a nice problem to have.

Watertown didn't play The Rock...they played LaLumiere, IN

Haha I realized what I typed right before reading this post....I had Roosie in my head at that point of the post. I was surprised that Roosevelt was able to hang with their lack of height compared to the length of The Rock but Roosie shot the ball really well and the press they used worked well. La Lumiere was the best team there in my opinion and Heiser really stood out against them. I wish we could have seen Hanson and Embiid face off though. Also I wish Washington wouldn't have played them, they are really bad.

As far as Heiser goes, he's a very good player but after watching him a few times he looks like an undersized 2 guard at the next level so I feel that is part of the reason why he isn't getting a D1 interest. He is maybe 6' at best, probably closer to 5'11". That being said I would love to have a D1 team give him a shot.

This is a pretty powerful endorsement of the kind of talent we are attracting now.

In DII, we probably go after Heiser as the best in state talent we could attract - Flatten and Severyn go to some other mid major.

Your description is pretty much the same as Austin Hansen in high school (although he may have been listed at 6'1"), an all time great at SDSU. Would he see playing time at SDSU now? Would he even be recruited?

Talked to his dad yesterday. Zero interest from SDSU or any DI. Plenty of DII and lower level interests and offers. Did not dare ask about walk-on aspirations. I don't think he has one bit of interest in sitting on the bench.....ever.

Not surprised as he is a perfect fit for DII. Also agree that he doesn't want to sit on the bench. Very good player though.
