There was no question my son had many offers but he had to sort through all the offers what exactly were they offering other than a scholarship........Kai knew he wanted to go to a school where he could play right away....the percentage of Canadian kids going down to Div 1 and Div 2 schools and returning back to Canada because they chose the wrong school for them is very high about 85% to be honest.

When the head coach comes up to see your son play basketball in his home town, not once but twice , after seeing him in two very big tournaments and at the Nike Camp, and then again to your home because your son just does not have the time to get down for a visit , because of his commitment to basketball to the Canadian Jr National team , you know that coach is really very interested in having him in his program.

Kai chose SDSU after looking seriously at other schools. It has not been an cake walk this year for him, but life is difficult at times as we all know, again Coach Nagy flew into Regina , for just 2 hours to talk to Kai and Rich and I , to talk about the upcoming year, the changes we would see, and to let us know his commitment to the team.

I think Kai made a good decision.

I'm glad to see that you are happy with Coach Nagy, also I didn't mean to offend anybody by saying Kai only had 1 scholarship offer I was more infering to Steve Nash only having 1 D-I scholarship and now hes 2 time and could easily become 3 time MVP..

Steve Nash only did have 1 offer I believe but you can only take one offer no matter how many you have right ? bit like winning the lottery you only need one ticket to win

Coach Larson and Coach Wilbur came up to see Kai too play in a game drove 11 hours watched the game and drove back right away..we were impressed by that too.

The distance away from home played a big part too in Kai's choice of SDSU he knew that we could get down to see some of his games, some of the other Universities were as much as 30 hours drive away.

He played in Howard Pulley, Dakota Schoolers Invitational, Sat out of the Dakota Showcase and I believe Kearney, NE that was held during the open period but only attended by a very few DI schools (if any). He played in Las Vegas and in KC at the end of the summer. Las Vegas is arguably the biggest venue of the summer for athletes to showcase their talent. I'm not certain what missing the Dakota Showcase and Mr. Basketball tournament in Kearney has to do with his summer season as I believe he had an ample amount of interest from schools in the region and outside of the region on all levels. He's well known in this area and if he can stay healthy this summer will have at least four tournament opportunities in the open period (when DI schools can be in attendance) to showcase his talent. I doubt that he's concerned with the level of interest that he's generating at this stage of his career.

I agree. I was just pointing out to joeboo that could be the reason he didn't post the same stats at some of the other tournaments(compared to Howard Pulley). I wasn't talking about his recruitment, but more about his consistency, which had been mentioned previously.
Nothing against you joeboo - just stating some possible reasons he didn't have the same stats.

The open period is the tag labeled on DI schools and their recruitment period.  It's basically open in April each weekend for certified events then dies down again until July.  In July there are specified dates the coaches can be out to see kids play but they are limited to NCAA Certified tournaments and camps.  Events have rules they have to follow to get certification.  The basics are:
                          • A specified area for coaches to keep them away from athletes and summer coaches
                          • Adjoining state rule for athletes meaning they can only play for a team in their state or a state that borders their state
                          • Certification for summer coaches
                          • Seminar at each event for each athlete

Only the DI's have to follow these rules and recruiting calendar.  There is a dead period in June for DII's but they have more options for recruitment during the summer.  The NCAA put these rules in to effect in the early 2000's to help eliminate cheating by member schools and the crap that happens with some summer programs.

Since it appears that 07 is done atleast for high school players. I thought I would add some light and ask some ? on this thread

Does SDSU still have offers on the table for Iverson and Schilling?
Is there any others that SDSU has an offer on the table with?
Is there any other players on there radar?
