I'm far from an expert in trasfer rules, but I thought a walk on was able to transfer without losing eligibility. Again, I have only my clouded brain to cite as a source for this. But, when dealing with a non-scholarship player, I think the transfer rules are different.
No, I don't believe it matters if he walks on at SDSU or not. If he signed a letter of intent at the prior school that is a committment to attend that school. If he leaves, the penalty is one year if he transfers to a school that is a member of the NLI organization. Now if he walked on at the prior school that would change things. The rules are pretty straight forward. http://www.national-letter.org/faq/#...20transferring

gotcha - a cite other than to my clouded brain makes for a little better source, I suppose. (insert winking icon here) Can't seem to figure out how to use those icons.

An update on the verbal commitments from Madison...

Chad White is back on the court after tearing his ACL this summer. He's seeing limited minutes until his knee is back to full strength, but he scored 12 points in Madison's win over St. Thomas More.

Tony Fiegen has just been phenomenal! I don't know if it was the playing time with the schoolers, or the fact that he put on some muscles this summer, but Tony has been owning the paint. So far, he's averaging 19.3 points and 10.8 boards through six games.

I had a friend at the game against STM and he said Fiegen is for real.... He said that White didn't do much but wouldn't quit talking about Fiegen (kinda got annoying).....

I think the reason Fiegen is doing better is because of playing time and his roll. Last year he would play different rolls and have different playing time depending on who they were playing and if people were in foul trouble or so on this year he is the go to guy....

Coach Ricke is trying to take it easy with White. The STM game was Chad's second game back and it's going to take some time to get him up to spec. I know Coaches Ricke and Thurow are concerned about giving Chad too much time too soon and making things worse.

It looks like our two recruits for next year are having decent seasons. James Rader is averaging 21 ppg while leading D'Evelyn to a 9-4 record. Anthony Davis was averaging about 18 ppg before he went down with an ankle injury in December. Davis was slowed a bit because of the injury during the first part of January. However, this week he scored 26 pts on Monday and followed that up with 27 pts on Wednesday.

Better than Tubby's recruit from Yankton, thats for sure. Colton was 2-5 from the field and 1-4 from the FT line with 5 boards in a loss against O'Gorman last night. Granted he doesn't have much help on this years team. He did have a 20/20 game against one of the Rapid City teams so there is potential there. I think I saw Fiegen listed in the top 5 scorers for the state.

Ya Colton has struggled but I think its more of who is around him as far as Fiegen a few of my friends have watched Madison play numerous times and have been impressed with Fiegen more then anybody they have seen this year, White is still slow in returning from knee surgery but if he returns to what he was as a sophomore he will be a solid recruit......

Radar a 6'7" three or four from Colorado and Anthony Davis a JUCO transfer 6'10" center.

I think Fiegen is about 6'6" but he will grow a couple more inches.

Not sure if this article should go here, but it is relevant. It is an article on Cody Shilling that ran the other day in the Star-Tribune. Cody seems to be a good local talent.

I read this article yesterday off of a bisonville thread.

It's a really good article to read even though it's long.

                            From the article above:

Last season Schilling was the only junior named to the Associated Press all-state first team, which included current Gophers player Blake Hoffarber of Hopkins and Bloomington Jefferson’s Cole Aldrich, now playing at Kansas.

Schilling has not made a college choice. His final list contains three schools: Division II power Winona State, Division II Augustana in Sioux Falls and Northwestern in Iowa, the NAIA school where brother Curt is playing.

Those colleges have offered free rides, as have such schools as North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Northern Iowa. Minnesota, Iowa State, Drake, Creighton and others have offered Schilling a walk-on spot with the possibility of a scholarship in the future.

A drawer in Cody’s bedroom is jammed with letters from colleges. On the day of the game against Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin, seven letters arrive in the mail from Drake, the No. 15 team in the nation.
"It would be better if they’d offer him a scholarship," Curt Schilling says.

I would love to see Schilling in a Jacks uniform. But it doesn't look like that's going to happen. He very likely was the best player last summer on that high school all-star team that also featured Iverson, Krogman and others.
