With all due respect to Eidsness, I would prefer someone else to be OC. I remember his last few years in Brookings and it wasnt great.
I hope for someone with some creativity and the ability to make adjustments.

Bergstrom was making around $115k last year according to this. 5-6 record the past two years.
Eidsness' salary for 2024 was $150k ( max bonus $50k ). SDSU Coordinators I believe were around 115 last year.
Luke Meadows - NIU Offensive Line Coach - making $100k
Jesse Currier - 6th Season as DC of MSU-M
Chuck Case - OC/Offensive Line coach Nichols College - 2021 NIU offensive quality control then he came to SDSU 2022-2023
Spencer Erickson - DC/Linebackers Winona State
Mikey Daniel may make an appearance (spent 2023 at Nebraska) as a developmental performance quality control - could have been mutual follows with Chase Mason from a while ago
Arion Shinaver - Asst safeties coach Vandy. He was an defensive intern at Vandy during Jackson's first year, then a defense GA in his second. Following sdsu/new mexico football twitters
Travis D. Moore Sr. - NIU DE's - spent 2 years working with Jackson - making $115k - this one seems unrealisticLast edited by peavy; 01-02-2025, 07:32 PM.

How about Jacks players, other than Wilde and Gronowski, who have either entered the portal and/or not re-committed?
Smith is following Jackson and vice-versa.
He started following Vorhees this morning (2 of 10 Kirby follows are UW accounts). He isn't following Woods, Hawthorne, or Humphrey. He is following Kobe Clayborne
Jackson has been active on Twitter following at least 30 some people including Angel Johnson, Chase Mason, some commits, and decommits like Isaiah Hung (not following Jackson)
Owen Ostroski (the Tulsa grad transfer) is following Jackson

I think we can rule out Olson on the coaching staff as OC and maybe everything else because Dan Jackson isn't following Ryan Olson on Twitter. Olson is following Jackson. Jackson's last year was was 2019, and Olson's first was 2020. That being said, isn't it usually custom to keep at least one or two coaches on the staff?
If Jackson wanted to try to get a coach from Rogers, he'd have to move fast because they're moving even faster. Rogers' team probably landed in Washington the same day Jimmy did, so they're been working together for days as a new staff and meeting with players/recruits in-person.Last edited by jbjack; 01-02-2025, 10:51 AM.

I'd welcome Olson back for the continuity but I'm not wild about the play calling.
I don't know how ready any of these guys are who are leaving to be coordinators besides Bobbit and Olson but if Jackson wanted to bump any of these guys up to that role, how do they not take it? I assume he'll have his own guys though.

Only four of the coaches on the last staff ( Rogers, Bobbit and the Menage cousins ) played for SDSU.

are any of the most recent recruiting class thinking of staying? or will they all follow the coaches who recruited them, or choose another school that also recruited them that did not lose a bunch of coaches? if any of those players are thinking about staying, they definitely want to know that they are still coming to the same program that the committed to in the first place
as far as the recruiting landscape goes
1. recruiting has to be at the VERY TOP of DJ qualifications and abilities. it seems like that might be the last of our worries about him as HC
2. i believe our most recent class has been said to be arguably the best class we have ever had. they were recruited by a staff that is nearly completely from inside the program
3. seems to me whatever we have been doing for recruiting has been producing pretty good results

the most desirable OC feels very obvious to me. it has to be Riggs. the problems are would he have any interest at all in working under a first year, first time HC? and if he would, it does seem incredibly likely that he would soon have more opportunities.
personally, i am hoping they are doing any and everything imaginable to get
OC- Riggs
DC- Isaiah Jackson
I think there would be a possibility that one or both could be hired away after one year, but I would hope we could keep them for at 2 years. beyond 2 years, I can think of both good and bad scenarios for them being here beyond 2 years
i absolutely do NOT think a good player equals a good coach, but we have definitely seen some who are! Stig obviously had a close to perfect ability to pick them out. he never let Lujan leave Brookings for a second. Lujan, Rogers, and Jackson are 3 excellent examples with more than a few others. Stig also did an excellent job of going outside- Eidsness and Eck probably sit on top of that list, but again there are plenty others
I am hoping that Stig is the #1 advisor to DJ as he chooses his staff. that said, players are going to want to know who they are playing for beyond the HC. there is some need for being quick!! a name like Tucker Kraft would carry weight. obviously that will not be one of the choices!! but our current players and likely newest recruits have some awareness who the legends of the program are. some of those legends coming back would help players to understand that THEY WILL STILL BE PLAYING FOR SDSU and not just the name on the shirt with no connection to the program that it has been
in my mind some seem far more likely to be good choices to carry on the tradition of Rogers, Lujan, Bobbit, etc...
Jake Weieneke
Jake Ohnesorge
Jake is so easy to spell they had to balance it out with impossible last names. hopefully recruits would not have to be able to spell their names to play for them!!
Logan Bachaus- not sure i got that spelling correct either
spelling issues aside, these 3 always had the reputation for leadership and intelligence and understanding of the game that I believe has proven to translate into coaching ability. I think Jake W starts at QB or WR coach, Jake O and Logan B position seem pretty clear put them under Jackson, Riggs, and Jackson and they could be the future coordinators.
I am sure DJ has some other people in mind, and i would never suggest that all or even most of the staff need to be former players (and I always assumed you were just having fun Salem), but there is unquestionable value at this moment in having some of these legends come home

Gojacks site seems to be updated. Most all coaches are gone including strength coach. Hopefully new staff comes together quickly.

As former head coach Mike Daly said many years ago, "Anyone can teach the x's and o's of football. It's the 'intangibles' that make a great coach." The intangibles include having great people skills to motivate young people, work closely with coaching colleagues to ensure teamwork and having excellent communication with recruited athletes and their families. Just because someone had a great athletic career doesn't translate into making them a candidate for a coaching position. All you have to do is look at the long line of professional coaches (in any sport) who became head coaches and were absolute duds. It's the people skills that make the difference. Exhibit A - Coach Stig.
