You guys are also missing the most important fact about Riggs. He runs the largest football academy in the state. He built it from nothing to what it is today. He had relationships with the majority of our current players and has ties to coaches all over the place. Imagine Riggs getting 5 transfers a year from his best friend at Alabama. Now we are cooking.

Football scoop is reporting that Danny Fruend will be OC at Wizzu. If true, then either Olson is staying put at SDSU, being demoted to OL coach at Wizzu or none of the above.

Do I think he could do a good job, yes. Do I think his job in convincing current players to stay would be harder, yes.
If someone from the Stig tree is the hire, the OC is my next highest spot of interest on the staff. IF Riggs would be interested in that it could be a great spot. (I have to believe there are a number of similarities between how Stig ran the program and how Bob Young ran the program Riggs played in).
For our offensive players that are upperclassmen and returning this will be their 3rd OC in 3 years.
Any former Jackrabbit offensive assistanst position coaches that come to mind that might want to come back? Any former players that could (and are qualified) to step right into that spot? Anyone from the Rogers staff that would be interested in moving up to OC rather than going to WSU?
How about DC? Would Coach Smith be interested in that if he isn't the hire for the head job?
As for former players, I'd be curious about Vince Benedetto (coach at SF Jefferson)

Riggs likely respects Stig but he has no reason to be loyal to him as the HC. Riggs has elite football knowledge. i believe he would have a chance to be the best OC we have ever had and we have had at least a couple who did fairly well

Riggs was a topic of conversation during the HH/NLA podcast as well, and Zim indicated Riggs told Zim that Jacks didn't contact him (38min mark), but he also told Gaskins he couldn't be the guest on the pod because he had "something going on" (13min mark). Taken literally, the "Jacks didn't contact him," could mean Riggs contacted the Jacks, but it sounds like best we could hope for would be OC for Riggs at this point.

some additional things from the podcast. I recommend a listen to this one. I didn't finish the episode.
Jackson already calling recruits and asking them to stay in the event he gets job
Lujan was Sell's #1 choice but was good with Northwestern gig
Many from the Stig tree are earning too much
Augie coach and SDSU coach shared mutual interest but SDSU said he wasnt going to be #1 candidate
The realist in me thinks this could be used as a pretty significant bargaining chip for Jackson (and Eck's staff) at UNM. I also think Dan Jackson earning less here and winning an FCS title would result in more $$ for him long term than anything he could achieve at UNM. At the end of the day, even if Rogers tanks, what's that saying about the best job? Fired [college football, nba, etc] HC.

of course if they go to WSU or other fbs, they likely get a chunk o cash that would help with family travel. IN the case of Chase, however, we are not just talking about mom, pop, and siblings. he also has several aunts and uncles and a bunch of cousins within a couple of hours of Brookings. dont think he is buying plane tickets for 20 or more to go to pullman.
as I began, of course we are going to lose some players. we are gonna lose some players that hurt a LOT!! but plenty of these SD, IA, NE, MN kids are going to want to find a reason to stay
if rumors are true and Jackson is the guy, I suspect if you put these kids in a room with him there will be plenty of them that want to stay. would Bobbit stay to be DC for Jackson? very tough to imagine he does not go with Jimmy, BUT I am guessing that Bobbit may have been recruited by Jackson. there is definitely some relationship. still doubtful, but not impossible.
somebody said Zim says Riggs would take the job if offered. anyone who thinks it is silly to consider Riggs is displaying some ignorance on the topic. he UNQUESTIONABLY knows the game and can coach it!! if he had chose to go into college coaching there is little reason to think he could not have followed a path basically identical to kalen deboer. i would even go so far as to say that if Riggs had wanted to be a college coach, he would have been ahead of Deboer in the line to follow Young at USF
Riggs knows football and he can coach. dont get me wrong, I am not trying to say he is my top choice for our HC. i am just saying, nobody should act dumbfounded that his name has been mentioned. he would be an asset
i can NOT imagine he would do it, but maybe he would like to not have to mess with all the parts of the program a HC has to deal with. could Sell get him to come on as the OC for Jackson? that would be incredible. remember local players have a relationship with Riggs. players on both sides of the ball respect his knowledge and teaching. put him on staff and local kids would have more reason to stay. would Wilde stay for him? in my mind Riggs coaching Mason and Wilde produces more than Olson coaching Gronowski and Wilde. ALL the RBs should want to play in a Riggs offense
again, I imagine no way they can convince him to do it but Jackson HC, Riggs OC makes us a bunch of very very dangerous rabbits

Gronowski indicated on The Nate Brown Show that two players he knew of were leaving (not counting Wilde), so we should still gird ourselves a bit
