It doesn't matter to me how Roehl did or didn't call plays- likely he is hiring an OC. The same goes for Jackson and his defense at Idaho this year- he likely hires someone to be the DC. I would think first-time head coaches would have enough on their plate without being a coordinator on either side of the ball. There are a number of names I can get behind, but I don't have any inside information on any of them and will trust Justin Sell to make a good decision (likely with some input from Stig). If it is Lujan- has he been in the business long enough/have enough connections to put together a good staff would be my first question. Obviously, he has a great connection to our more experienced offensive players. Smith would have a connection to our more experienced defensive players.

As some have stated, the current trends of NIL and portal leave a sour taste in my mouth. Neither is going away (nor should they), but there needs to be reform.
Part of the attraction of SDSU, beyond being my alma mater, is being able to see players grow and develop for 4+ years. If that changes then I don't see my interest level staying as high as it has been.

My initial reaction was oh crap this is really bad. However, the more I think about it the more optimistic I am. This is an incredibly attractive coaching position, arguably the best FCS coaching position out there. There are an incredible number of coaches that would kill to get this job. Sell has proven to be an outstanding decision maker when it comes to hiring coaches, I trust him. The culture will remain. The administration and remaining players will carry that through.

I am just curious how Rodgers will preform at WSU. I think most good coaches could have won the repeat season. This year, SDSU was 4-3 against good teams. That could be some of the play calling by the OC's but it is what it is. I could be wrong on this but it is my take.
As far as SDSU's new coach, they should have several good canidates. I'm have faith in Sell to get a great hire.

Charlie Baker is a spineless POS. If anyone thinks he's going to ever do anything to appease anyone other than the top tier programs they are smoking some good stuff. All you need to do is look at his response to whether something should be done to protect women in locker rooms from transgender males.

That’s the way I see it too. The NCAA is rudderless, has no vision and no plan and is just responding to the lawsuits against them and is waiting for congress to write rules for them to implement. Don’t hold your breath for anything to be resolved any time soon. Meanwhile the high $$$$ institutions are dictating the direction of college sports. I think that as an AD and a college coach, you have to plan on more of the same and wait until the system collapses on itself.

You guys are also missing the most important fact about Riggs. He runs the largest football academy in the state. He built it from nothing to what it is today. He had relationships with the majority of our current players and has ties to coaches all over the place. Imagine Riggs getting 5 transfers a year from his best friend at Alabama. Now we are cooking.

The biggest piece of this for me is that we are inarguably a top 3 or even top 2 program, or as the guys on JI suggested on their Saturday podcast, the top FCS program from a coaching standpoint (citing the unreasonable expectations in North Fargo). We shouldn't need to reach for coaching candidates. At the same time, we should be expecting a coaching candidate that has lived and coached in a championship culture and is familiar with the recruiting pool and the environment of championship football in the I29 corridor. That eliminates a lot of candidates for me. If we can find that candidate in the Stig tree, great. But a lot of those candidates were from an earlier era of Jackrabbit football. The program was built emulating NDSU's success and if we don't have a great candidate from our program, then I have no issue looking to the program that we emulated in building a championship culture. Maybe that guy isn't Roehl although I'm not familiar enough with where NDSU guys have been or are now. But Roehl obviously jumps immediately to mind, is obviously well regarded in the coaching world, is a good recruiter and his players loved him. He's going to be a HC someday and probably some day soon.

The criticism of Roehl's play calling is fair although it's possible that he and NDSU just didn't have the playmakers during his tenure.

We know nothing about how Riggs would coach, call plays, run a program. And besides the SD guys, and maybe NW Iowa guys, were our MN kids, NE kids, MO kids, Illinois kids, Grand Forks kids, WI kids, Kentucky kids in the Riggs Academy?

Isaiah Jackson is interesting, and one I haven't seen mentioned. I wonder if he'd consider returning here. It'd keep the Chandler HS chain unbroken, which raises the question of whether Jimmy might try to bring him to WSU

I have heard that Jimmy and Isaiah are/were best friends and the reason Isaiah never joined his staff at SDSU was because the coaching world is tough and they didn't want to potentially have the hard discussion someday of one of them letting the other down with an under performing unit they were in charge of coaching. Who knows the truth to it. I would have full trust in Isaiah though - young, relatable to players, part of a team at UC-Davis that has improved every year, Special Teams Coordinator.
