According to Sam Herder, Jackson turned down the Idaho head job to follow Eck.

I am guessing that CO-OC bull crap doesn’t fly in the daunted PAC 2. He will probably be the O Line coach or be somewhere else. Not at SDSU I hope.

You guys are also missing the most important fact about Riggs. He runs the largest football academy in the state. He built it from nothing to what it is today. He had relationships with the majority of our current players and has ties to coaches all over the place. Imagine Riggs getting 5 transfers a year from his best friend at Alabama. Now we are cooking.
I've spent way too much time thinking about this, but one thing I'll give Roehl all the credit in the world for is his loyalty even if he is a Bison and even if his play calling is supsect. He and Jimmy had very similar paths at their respective alma maters but those paths diverged when it came to the HC position. Roehl obviously got passed over and Jimmy didn't. To Roehl's credit, he stayed at NDSU, encouraged players to stay at NDSU (those same players that publicly endorsed him for the job) even though he wasn't selected, and only after the portal window closed did he announce his departure. He was very loyal to the program despite getting passed over. Here, we have good authority that even before announcing his departure and even yet, Jimmy and co. are trying to motherf*** SDSU. Sure, maybe it isn't about SDSU and is all about trying to get up and running Wazzu, but that direct and indirect effect is and will be very detrimental to the alma mater of Jimmy and most of his staff. I don't begrudge Jimmy for taking the job. I don't begrudge the staff that leave for taking the job. Sure, there are plenty who will preach that what Jimmy and Co are doing is just the world of college football today. But Jimmy preached to his players here that they didn't need to act like the rest of the college football world when it came to NIL and the portal. Jimmy and Co could have lived their own advice on the way out the door. Tyler Roehl left on different circumstances but even still, he made sure he left his alma mater in as good of shape as he could.

Do I think he could do a good job, yes. Do I think his job in convincing current players to stay would be harder, yes.
If someone from the Stig tree is the hire, the OC is my next highest spot of interest on the staff. IF Riggs would be interested in that it could be a great spot. (I have to believe there are a number of similarities between how Stig ran the program and how Bob Young ran the program Riggs played in).
For our offensive players that are upperclassmen and returning this will be their 3rd OC in 3 years.
Any former Jackrabbit offensive assistanst position coaches that come to mind that might want to come back? Any former players that could (and are qualified) to step right into that spot? Anyone from the Rogers staff that would be interested in moving up to OC rather than going to WSU?
How about DC? Would Coach Smith be interested in that if he isn't the hire for the head job?
Not to "spend other people's money," but Zim & Gaskins mentioned that a certain prominent donor whose name we all know never invested in the collective. I can understand that person's reluctance to do so, but maybe donating some "seed money" to highering top tier coordinators might help entice someone like Smith to return.

As for former players, I'd be curious about Vince Benedetto (coach at SF Jefferson)

Riggs has elite football knowledge. i believe he would have a chance to be the best OC we have ever had and we have had at least a couple who did fairly well

Taken literally, the "Jacks didn't contact him," could mean Riggs contacted the Jacks, but it sounds like best we could hope for would be OC for Riggs at this point.

some additional things from the podcast. I recommend a listen to this one. I didn't finish the episode.

Jackson already calling recruits and asking them to stay in the event he gets job
Lujan was Sell's #1 choice but was good with Northwestern gig
Many from the Stig tree are earning too much
Augie coach and SDSU coach shared mutual interest but SDSU said he wasnt going to be #1 candidate

The realist in me thinks this could be used as a pretty significant bargaining chip for Jackson (and Eck's staff) at UNM. I also think Dan Jackson earning less here and winning an FCS title would result in more $$ for him long term than anything he could achieve at UNM. At the end of the day, even if Rogers tanks, what's that saying about the best job? Fired [college football, nba, etc] HC.
I'd encourage listening from the approx. 23:56 mark. Zim admits he hadn't spoken with Sell, but he said he "did hear that maybe initially Lujan was the number one target"
