When that time comes, I would recommend you take a big look at Jason Eck, Dan Jackson, Jimmy Rogers (I have heard there were 4 names, so someone else as well.). Eck left for Idaho HC, Jackson left for FBS, all that was left was Jimmy.

Jimmy was (ironically enough) offered Washington State's DC job by Dickert. Jimmy went to Sell and Stig and said, "what do I do? I'm making $125,000 (I have no clue what he made as our DC?) as SDSU DC and I have been offered close to $1,000,000 to be Washington State's DC (now their DC is being paid less, but 2 years ago that's what Jimmy was offered.)"

An agreement was then made that Stig would step down, Jimmy would become HC for $300,000. Coming off a National Championship and the potential to lose Jimmy to a (at that time) P5 school, was the right timing to transition coaches. In a way, Stig maybe retired a few years earlier than he had planned on just so the job could transition to Jimmy. Or maybe he was ready to go, who knows.
I like to create some chaos on here but in reality this is the correct understanding of the situation.

Sounds like Bobcats are losing coaches on offense (OC and OL) with both headed to Temple, but I'm not seeing much re. their defensive coaches.

Still hoping Mr. Smith comes back to Brookings.

As peavy mentioned, I think both would be "reaches" in terms of known/overt connections. I'm still hoping it's Smith, but I suppose it might be awkward accepting DC position is same place you interviewed to be head coach.

I’m hearing Jackson’s introductory press conference is on Friday. Hopefully we know some official staff by then.

I would note that this interpretation was not necessarily refuted by Stig during the Happy Hour episode jbjack cited.

Gaskins prefaced his question saying that Stig left because Jimmy was being offered DC on Dickert's staff and Stig said something like "well, yeah" before expounding on the plan and discussions he had with President Dunn and Justin Sellvadvicating candidates on the list he provided be considered.

I only know what Stig said, in his own words, to Gaskin last week. There was a timeline established six years ago. Stig said he was going to be done. Sell was made aware that he needed to start looking for a replacement, and ideally an SDSU man. It ended up being Jimmy, sure, but he wasn't forced out. He's been pretty candid about things lately. No reason to think he would be less than truthful about his retirement.
The meeting with Sell he was referring to was six years ago while Dan was still on staff and they discussed the strengths and weaknesses of Dan, Jimmy, and Eck as possible replacements once he retired. I'm fairly sure that Stig would never run Jimmy's name through the mud to the media. I have direct knowledge that this happened, but I'm guessing you are never going to read about it in a news article.
