A couple of other names from Pioneer League. UNI hired the guy from Drake.

    Glenn Caruso (St. Thomas)
    Brandon Moore (San Diego)

In Justin Sell I trust. Just throwing names out.

I misread this. If Michigan had Tom Brady reaching out to that high school quarterback, the active NFL Jacks need to be reaching out. Sorry Taryn and Jake.

Dan Jackson's secondary didn't do too hot at Vandy either. Excellent point about DC being hired to actually run defense. From a raraSDSU perspective, it seems the job is his to lose pending third candidate? Former SDSU player, on the staff longer so presumably better connected with everyone (admin, AD, HS coaches in recruiting area, etc). I believe he has more FBS experience too. Additional year working with Eck if that counts for anything. Idaho program also in rough shape, so he probably has pull with some current or now in portal Idaho players. Maybe worth noting that he wasn't on same career trajectory (demotion from FBS to FCS, Vandy thing) as Smith prior to Jackson being hired as the new DC at Eck's school.

    Head Coach Jake Wieneke?

That UIW coach is going to get poached by FBS very soon. Would people be okay with him if it'll just be a quick 2 year pitstop recruiting (presumably) FBS transfers producing semifinal caliber Jacks teams? Essentially changing the team's identity. Is 2-3 years of success and out the future expectation with the HCs?

I had no idea of the success Kurtiss Riggs (link to his wiki) and the Storm had as they were winning championships while I was in Brookings so I was unsure of the hype around him. I figured it was Zimmer's nod to him for his podcast contributions.

With Riggs contributions to Alabama and Washington State, has he actually interviewed with someone since then? I had no idea he is so young with all that success (I figure he's approaching 50). One of Gaskins questions to him was "When did you know you were done [coaching]?" Riggs ended up saying it was like 2 years (when he originally planned to, I think) before he actually stopped due to how Covid impacted his team / ownership, the season that came afterwards, etc. Has he talked about wanting to coach again or is this just fans hyping him up? I assume he stops any work with the high schoolers.
Zimmer had a thread on Twitter about possible candidate and someone asked if Riggs would take the job, and Zimmer responded that he would.

I agree, and if that is true we will likely never know unless that person is hired. I am hoping this is done and announced by 1/1/2025. What a way to start a new year.

Kolpack said this morning on Dom Izzo's show that Jimmy was also a candidate for FAU's opening. Jimmy did a stint at FAU before coming back to Brookings.

There appears to be a lot of good, prospective candidates to succeed Coach Rogers. Here's my updated wish list:
1 - Dan Jackson. He would be great communicator and recruiter, and should be able to attract good assistants to execute the Xs and Os.
2 - Zach Lujan. It's probably doubtful he'd be interested, but he's a thoughtful and respected offensive mind.
3 - Christian Smith. He was successful and reportedly well liked during his years as an SDSU defensive assistant.

This is an incredibly attractive coaching position, arguably the best FCS coaching position out there. There are an incredible number of coaches that would kill to get this job. Sell has proven to be an outstanding decision maker when it comes to hiring coaches, I trust him. The culture will remain. The administration and remaining players will carry that through.

It doesn't matter to me how Roehl did or didn't call plays- likely he is hiring an OC. The same goes for Jackson and his defense at Idaho this year- he likely hires someone to be the DC. I would think first-time head coaches would have enough on their plate without being a coordinator on either side of the ball. There are a number of names I can get behind, but I don't have any inside information on any of them and will trust Justin Sell to make a good decision (likely with some input from Stig). If it is Lujan- has he been in the business long enough/have enough connections to put together a good staff would be my first question. Obviously, he has a great connection to our more experienced offensive players. Smith would have a connection to our more experienced defensive players.

As some have stated, the current trends of NIL and portal leave a sour taste in my mouth. Neither is going away (nor should they), but there needs to be reform.
Part of the attraction of SDSU, beyond being my alma mater, is being able to see players grow and develop for 4+ years. If that changes then I don't see my interest level staying as high as it has been.

I am just curious how Rodgers will preform at WSU. I think most good coaches could have won the repeat season. This year, SDSU was 4-3 against good teams. That could be some of the play calling by the OC's but it is what it is. I could be wrong on this but it is my take.
As far as SDSU's new coach, they should have several good canidates. I'm have faith in Sell to get a great hire.
