I also wonder if Buri and Cole would be options
It feels like they will want to do everything possible to keep Amar out of this duty if they have other good options
Angel looks like he is always one guy away from breaking a huge play, very explosive. definitely seems like they are trying to find a way to take advantage / find a spot for him to explode
Cole feels like another player with highly regarded athleticism who hasn't yet been able to take off
It seems like we have been using RBs and WRs in these spots for a while now, but this is also, obviously, a spot where coaches have found a chance to get the ball into the hands talented defensive guys, who otherwise are limited in opportunities to touch the ball. maybe my all time favorite Jackrabbit return guy, JeRyan Butler, was teammates with DC Bobbit. I don't remember which of the young DBs were also significant offensive / return players in high school, but there are some highly regarded, athletic guys from that side of the ball too
for some reason Dontay Johnson is the one who stands out to me, but i am sure there are others who would also be worthy candidates
one other very outside the box thought, and i am sure they would not do it, but to my understanding Chase Mason is one of the few fastest guys on the team. everything i have heard is he has looked very good. gotta believe that, 1 he will be itching to get on the field, and 2 there seems a good chance the coaches will be trying to find some opportunities for him to make an impact
also, i dont rule out one or both of the Jankes WANTING to do it, but it definitely feels like if we see a Janke or Amar getting return reps this fall, then several younger guys failed to take hold of an opportunity
speaking of Dontay Johnson, i dont know where else to put this
does one of our coaches have some warped sense of humor or something and is working on like a whole special teams unit with 11 guys named johnson or something
i mean WOW, i know it is a common name, but just off the top of my head i can come up with 7 (amar, angel, derrick, dontay, bryce, and for crying out loud 2 kadens, 1 c and 1 k)

Butler was one of my all-time favorite return specialists, but it seems like secondary is consistently dealing with injuries as season progresses, so I'd also be reluctant to use DBs on returns.
Maybe Jacks should capitalize on that and have special Johnson-themed ticket packages where valid surnamed fans have seats in the Johnson quadrant of DJD or discounted tickets.

even using Dru G as example. i have heard from some specialists say that there is a certain point where there will be NO additional damage that is directly related to playing with an ACL tear. others, however, would say it is basically malpractice to tell someone it is ok to play with that injury. SO the whole topic still lacks meaningful clarity and i just dont think there is any consensus that you can avoid the injury by avoiding certain movements, obviously if you just avoid explosive movements all together or limit to strictly straight line running, but if that is the case then he is going to be terribly limited
anyway, like i said, i highly doubt that they would have him in the return game, but my understanding on Chase perspective is that he says he feels perfect, like there never was an injury

excellent football players who will most likely not get the opportunities that they could get in other places just because of the depth of talented players on this roster (minus injuries and no decent person wants to sit around hoping for their teammates to get hurt obviously!!)
it is NEVER a great feeling to lose such good players(((
but it is proof of the incredible depth on this roster
hoping the very best for all of them!!!! and hoping they never have to wear red or green))

Dawson Ripperda looks like a strong addition for the defense. His high school record at West Lyon was impressive. I got the following off his Northern Illinois biography:- All-County, All-Region, and All-State (2020, 2021)
- Defensive MVP of the District (2021)
- First team all-conference (2020, 2021)
- Four-year varsity letterwinner
- Team captain (2021)
- Team MVP (2021)
This space for lease.
