  • Re: Eastern Washington

I would think the travel issue was a weight in the admininstrators minds, when they denied NDSU and SDSU. Academically, there were no problems as I recall. Lets face it, its a hellva drive to Missoula and further yet to Cheney, so air travel would have been the mode of transportation. Seems like UNC got in when SDSU and NDSU were denied, so that lets me believe that it was an issue. That does not answer the subsequent addition of UND to the Big Sky so there you go. I did not think it was a good idea to add UNC to the NCC, but that over and forgotten.

Academics had nothing to do with it. We, and NDSU are peer institutions with Montana State, Colorado State, etc. If you look at the Big Sky schools several are commuter schools much like Metro State in Denver. The decision had everything to do with the cost of travel, which makes sense. Given the option at the time, both our schools would choose the MVFC/Summit over the Big Sky. However, at the time we were looking for a conference; any conference. The Big Sky was an option, it only made sense to show interest.

The addition of UND, and the invite to USD came at a time when conferences were being poached left and right. There was a lot of talk that both Montana schools had one foot out the door, looking at the then viable WAC. As things settle down I'm pretty sure a lot of the school Presidents now wonder what the heck they, and Fullerton were thinking.

        .
I said there were no problems that I was aware of so why do you put words in my mouth? I was talking travel as an issue and we apparently agree on that point.

In an offensive battle, I think EWU perseveres. It's just our style, and I am confident in my team. If we lose, I will more than happily come back to your board to eat my crow. I don't think either team is equipped to efficiently stop the other team's offense. SDSU may or may not be able to control the clock, but not being able to score for four minutes is also a huge disadvantage when you are facing a team which scores in 30 seconds. Just my two cents. And yes, I am wearing red colored glasses
Jackrabbits cannot allow the big plays and the 4 play 80 yd scoring drives that EWU thrives on. The D-line with support of safeties and LB's has to get some pressure that helps prevent the deep throw and the secondary and LB's have to tackle well on slants or swing passes. Jackrabbits have to win the special teams battle, control field position and win the turnover game. That is asking a lot, I understand, but if that happens SDSU wins by 10 or more. If EWU comes out and dominates offensively through the air if could be a long day for the Jackrabbits. Falling behind by 2 scores early would make it really difficult for the Jackrabbits. SDSU has to run the ball often, run it well, and convert on 3rd and short. Looking forward to a hard fought playoff battle.

Weather looks to be much colder than seasonal and while I have no idea about the geography of the field perhaps a cold windy day will be an advantage for the Jacks. Imagine if this game was slated for Brookings this Saturday with a high temp of ZERO, 6 plus inches of snow and 30 mph winds.

Right on. There's alot to think about with this game. We're definitely the underdog but at the same I like this matchup for us. For one EWU doesn't look like a smashmouth team that will simply out man us. AKA NDSU. AKA Nebraska. Hopefully your defense is as soft as they say. If we are in a game where the line is dominating and Zenner is getting good yards consistently, I think the defense will surprise. Want to see something like 31-24/ 35-28

Did someone pee in your coffee this morning? Calm down, the "academic" comment came from the EWU poster.

No one pissed in my coffee, sorry I thought that to be a direct comment since you quoted my post. You might have quoted that post rather than mine, or well no harm on this end hope you see it the same.

A smashmouth running team should give your defense plenty of time to rest. EWU is not going to dominate the TOP. This all works in your favor. You've got to get pressure with your d-line though...because if you need linebackers for pressure it will open up the pass even more. I think you will take them.

Forecast for Cheney keeps getting colder. Now looking at a low of 0 for Friday night and high of 12 on Saturday.

Sounds like a great forecast for a power running team!

Don't count on any wind. It does not blow here that much at all in the first place and when a big old high pressure builds in it never blows.
This offense defense debate is interesting but what really matters is the difference in points.
Your offense scores an average of 29.84 points per game and gave up an average of 22.23 points per game for a difference of 7.61 points
Eastern offense scores on average 40.41 points per game and gave up on average 29.points per game for a difference of 11.41
