I don't think Dom Wright enjoyed what he was doing, and I would think he would be getting signals from the Special Team coach as far as how to handle each kick off return. If the coach screwed up then that kind of goes unnoticed. Hoping this year we will have some sort of ace doing this important task.

The coach was not telling him whether to fair catch a punt or not.

It's really pretty simple. Put your feet on the 10 yard line. If you have to back peddle at all, don't catch the ball. It's amazing how bad we were at punt returns last year.

Coach Stig was the special teams coach last year.

There is your problem. I up my donation to Difference Makers Club by 500 bucks, a start towards hiring a good special teams coach.

Come on... Flim critics don't need to be brilliant directors, music critics do not need to be incredible musicians, and people that state obvious facts about sports do not need to be capable of playing the sport.

There isn't much professions I dislike more than music and movie critics. However, a fan should be able to criticize and critique a coach and players performance. Heck, isn't that part of being a fan. The punt returning was awful last year and that falls on both the player and the coach for not putting the player in a position to succeed.

I don't usually pile on the coaching staff until we lose, but I like the direction we are going in here. Punt return needs to improve. I would go show them how its done, but my eligibility is expired.

Nidaros you are way off base on this one (and a little on edge tonight too I might add!).

Standing on the 10 yard line on a punt return is special teams 101. It's not like Montana is saying he could quarterback the offense.

My 6 year old could understand not moving backwards to catch a ball over her head if I drew a line in the yard and told her to stand on it.

To be honest, I don't think it has anything to do with coaching. It's about a player letting his ego get in the way so he can "be the man" with his fantasy of returning that punt for a touchdown.

It is so fundamental that if a player can't understand that, I'd begin questioning the mental abilities of some of the athletes we are recruiting. Remember, this happened on more than one occasion.
