There's also some info on three players that left the program. I guess the Koehmoos kid was the only one that drew my attention. Wasn't he somewhat of a highly regarded recruit.
Would love to figure out how many from the last two recruiting classes are still around. Actually maybe I don't want to know. On the glass half full side, hopefully the kids that are left from that class are the ones that really want to be Jackrabbits.

    And one from Stu:

    Go Jacks!!
Great insight by Terry once again. Blog posts like these are what set him apart from the rest of the pack! Many thanks as usual Terry!

As for Stu's article. Pretty straightforward and to the point without stirring the pot! Wow....

Too bad we wasted a full ride scholarship for a year and a half on the guy. Highly touted according to some. We are not always going to get the "right" guys for the program.

                    1. Be prepared for one of the friendliest towns in America. It can be disarming, even a little offputting at times, but people will be genuinely interested in you and your success.

                    2. Your education will be second to none. Any alum will tell you that - whether she graduated in 1930 or 2010. The university community takes this core mission very seriously.

                    3. Embrace the weather. If you are the outdoorsy type from a warmer clime, don't fear January. Defy it. It always passes. Winter helps you understand that there is nothing like a crisp fall football day or that first rush of real spring air. You tend to take less of everything for granted.

                    4. When you play hard and passionately, there is no better, nor more loyal, fan base behind you, even if they sometimes express it in swells of modest Dakota appreciation. Steady as she goes, but full speed ahead.

                    5. Jackrabbits are unique. You will be part of many overlapping circles of families, but you can always retain your identity in Brookings - and wherever life takes you thereafter. This is why we have one of the coolest, most unique mascots in America.

                    6. If the University of South Dakota is on your schedule, no matter if you are 0-10 and have not scored in three months, all will be forgiven and that game will be won. This is as an important element of Point 5 as anything you will ever know or feel for the rest of your life.

                    7. In the rare year that a certain institution Way Up North named after a humped animal steals our beloved Dakota Marker, it WILL be returned to its rightful location in Brookings after the very next meeting on the Gridiron.

                    8. Enjoy the ride. It goes by so fast, even if what you have just chosen to embrace will never leave you.

                    9. A Jackrabbit's worst day is infinitely better than the best day of a Coyote, Bison, or Panther.

                    Go Jacks!
At the risk of getting the boot, and if I knew how to switch the JACKRABBIT MANIFESTO to smack, trust me I would, I would like to bring up a very important issue. Actually, hugely important.

I have been an active participant on here for I believe over 2 years, and have made alot of friends, probably an enemy or two, and had good banter back and forth. But the one thing I have always heard repeatedly, and I mean over and over is the fact that the USD game is "just another game." But in Vermillion, "if you only win one game and it's against SDSU, then the Coyotes had a great season. Repeatedly been told we had to much emphasis on "THEE GAME".

Now, I would like to refer to you #6 of the JACKRABBIT MANIFESTO. "Even if we are 0-10 and haven't scored a point in 3 months, all will be forgiven if you beat the Coyotes"? What the hell?

It sounds like to me the Manifestois your guiding light document, so your emphasis on the USD game has truly come to light, and we now discover this game means more to your base than it does our base. Very interesting. Carry on.

JackJD, rebuttal? Sturgis? Slosho? NoVaJack? Lets talk this one out.

BTW........looks like a solid recruiting class to SDSU. Congrats

That is one persons idea of what it means to be a Jackrabbit. Every team wants to beat their close rival, no matter how big the school or what conference. SDSU and USD did have a rivalry back in the NCC. But to tell you the truth, beating USD was important, but to me that wasn't a season maker (and to me, the SDSU-USD rivalry was only in basketball). I want SDSU to beat every school they play. So please don't go the the extreme of taking one posters 'Manifesto' as being the 'set-in-stone' guidelines for the entire school (no where on SDSU's official school site is this 'Manifesto' listed).
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

Feeling a bit humor-deficient this morning?

I think NoVaJack was trying to be funny.

(He was invoking a common college athletics meme, wherein one fan base says to a coach "I don't care if you don't win a game, as long as you beat X." Now X in our case could have been NDSU except for the fact that he was covering them and the Marker game in the next point.)

(My other thought is that if you have to explain the joke, it really wasn't that funny. Sorry, NoVaJack.)

Well said. Personally, I'll always take the NDSU rivarly over USD and it wouldn't bother me if SDSU never played USD again.

Okay, if I want to be serious for a moment (hate being serious on a sports message board),…

I view my friend NoVaJack’s comment about USD as an optimistic expression of what the future COULD hold, based on past events including my own point of reference: 1972-76 when NoVaJack and I were at SDSU. The USD games were great fun. When the Coyotes came to Brookings for Hobo Day, all our buddies from USD crashed in our dorm rooms or apartments for the weekend, Horts and the Last Step/Lucky Lady did land-office business (remember, 3.2 beer and 18 was legal).

When a friend from USD gave us a jab, we gave it back – fully intending it to be a good natured jab and never an attempt to damage a friendship. I’m sure there must have been some ugly incidents but I can’t recall any in particular and if there were some, they must have been few and far between. I admit I thought it was funny when: throughout the week preceding Hobo Day 1973, dorm residents in Young/Binniwies were pestered by random, false fire alarms to the point the administration let it be known if they caught anyone pulling a fire alarm, they’d be prosecuted in court – and on the Friday night before Hobo Day a fire alarm was set off, and a guy caught and subsequently prosecuted. Was it fair he was a USD student and had to pay a nominal fine?

Today’s students at SDSU and USD (with perhaps the exception of a misguided young lady given the opportunity to write a real dumb column in the recent Volante) have clean slates. There’s hope for some fun times ahead.

But, on second thought, I don’t want to be serious. I just wanted to tell the story about the fire alarm guy getting arrested.

I think quite possibly, this will change with time as the rivalry grows.. but It will defiantly be just another game for some time, and likely the NDSU rivalry will continue to dominate. As for the casual fan The U-State Game will be THE rivalry game (likely the area media will force this issue as it relates to most of it's viewers).

But I would argue that for the more educated (MVFC wise) and more "rabid" fan the "The battle of the XDSU's" will continue to be more important...

But that's just my take... I know some want to look down their nose at the U, but face it, they are equals in sports now (from a level of play perspective, i.e. they play in the same conference) they may not be as accomplished at the higher level yet... and may never be, but only time will tell...

                              Just my opinion.

I think you have a good point and I think there are people that still feel that way. Especially those that were around during D-II. I was not around during the D-II years and so I don't really look at USD as a 'rival'.

Here's my take: I would rather have SDSU never play USD again because it puts them (USD) back on the same playing field as SDSU. SDSU has a great thing going for them and by playing USD, they give them a chance to get beat. What would happen if USD beat SDSU in the first basketball and football game? Wow that would be something huh?

I don't look at USD as some terrible school, although I really don't like the town of Vermillion. I have no haste towards the school at all. However, I see them as a school that can take away fans from SDSU, so I want them to not do as well. I don't mind them there, but I want them right behind SDSU, just like they've been through the transition. That will change once USD joins the Summit and MVC. This is why I was hoping for USD to go to the Big Sky. It would have been great for SDSU, IMO.

Also, for everything that was said about SDSU from USD fans and how dumb it was for them to leave and go D-I, it's hard not to want them to struggle. USD followed SDSU right into the Great West and then into the Summit and MVC.

That's my honest opinion on the two schools. No haste towards USD, but want them to struggle because I want SDSU to do well on the playing field.
