    Re: Rabbit Bracketology

I don't think SDSU gets a 15 seed. Their record overall is respectable. They beat 2 top 50 teams (which is, I believe, as many top 50 teams as they beat last year).

I would LOVE an 11 seed, but a 12 wouldn't kill me. 13 and lower is almost an insult for a team that--again--has two top 50 wins.

Those 13 'crap' seeds (14-16) should be reserved for the worst of the autobid conferences.

And I think the Jacks deserve to be bumped up to 12 from 13 because they got severely hosed last year.

I'd say the chances of a 12 or 13 seed are slim & none and slim just left the building.

Never underestimate the makeup factor, as in the bracketeers making up for a not-so-great seed for Jacks last year.

I hope you're right, but I'd say bracketeers could give 2 s#ts about SDSU or any makeup over last year.

            Re: Rabbit Bracketology

An RPI in the 100-teens means no better than a 13-seed, depending on other conference champions (including any upsets). Sagarin has nine conference leaders below SDSU's Sagarin #102 . . . so the #10 team translates to a 14 seed. If a few upsets happen, we might get pushed into a 13 seed, but that's not likely.

SDSU's record last year (coming within a heartbeat of the Sweet Sixteen) may count for something if the committee is looking at SDSU vs. somebody with no tournament track record, but I wouldn't count on it. We won't do better than a 13, and will probably get stuck with a 14.

I'm thinking a 15 seed is likely based upon a cursory glance of RPI and the "newness" of SDSU to the tournament scene. A 14 seed could occur if some upsets occur this week, but I'm guessing that some #2 seed is going to face a dangerous Jackrabbit squad.

My first guess would be a trip to South Bend to face Notre Dame. A trip to Ames to face Iowa State could happen if the upsets fall the right way.

The problem for SDSU's seeding is that the Summit League has three of the ten worst RPIs (Centenary, IUPUI, and SUU) in the country. SDSU or a team like Oral Roberts will never get good seeding in the Big Dance as long as an IUPUI goes 2-26.

SDSU could be the scariest 15 seed ever!

They are gonna be a tough out for anyone......other than UCONN.

Based on what happened to Texas Tech and almost happened to Baylor last year, SDSU's appearance in somebody's bracket is pretty much guaranteed not to be cause for celebration.

                    Ain't it great?

On the other hand, this year, our opponent will take the SDSU women seriously. Our Jacks had better be prepared to play the game of their lives.

                          Re: Rabbit Bracketology

Upshot: If the Jacks get a 15 seed and survive the first round, that'll probably be the toughest game they'll have to play until the regional championship.

SOS should help the Jacks out, though. Jacks played a tough non-conf. Tougher than most of the teams in their peer group.

                            Re: Rabbit Bracketology

I just did the math on the Jacks SOS in non-conference games. Including Udot, the Jacks opponents record (at this moment) is 217-112 or an average of 20-10. Only 2 opponents (UNI & USD) currently have a sub-500 record.

IMHO, during the transition and even into last year, we scheduled a great non-conference schedule and were able to "fly under the radar" with many of those bigger schools. This year we had the great win vs. Gonzaga, but then tripped up and got swept up in questioning ourselves. We certainly lost some confidence and momentum, but the girls have done a great job of pulling together another great run.

We aren't going to surprise anybody this year, but I believe the strength of our non-conference schedule, coupled by ORU, Oakland & UMKC's improvement, could help us in the tournament. Not to mention our depth - you never know who's going to light it up on any given night.

                              No way the Jacks get a 16 or even a 15. I see a 13 or 14. 11's and 12's are usually at-large bids. My prediction is a 13 seed.

I was just over at ESPN.com and was surprised to see Middle Tennessee State won in OT and Alyshia Clark had 48 points!! SDSU absolutely man-handled this team in Brookings...MTSU is currently ranked 25th.
I was watching this game at Nutty's before our game and thought UALR had it pretty much under control. I'm sure the same could've been said for our game with 5 minutes left!!

I would hope with this win and the win over Gonzaga(which won the WCC and has a 17 game win-streak going) we don't received any worse than a 13 seed.

                                Added later:
                                Good(Great?) Wins:
                                MTSU - Ranked #25 - Beatdown, almost 30 points!!
Gonzaga - Ranked #15 - Ovetime at Frost

                                Good Losses:
                                Virgina - Ranked #22
                                Ill. St. - Getting Votes
WKU - Getting Votes(Maybe an OK loss since it was at Frost)
                                Iowa - Getting Votes

                                OK Losses:
Arizona State (Where the hell did they go this year??)
Utah - Can't call this a Bad loss with their reputation
ORU at ORU - Can't consider this a bad loss, but some may.

                                Bad Losses:
                                Oakland
                                UMKC
                                ORU in Frost

                                Go Jacks!!
