    Re: 2011 Recruits

There is a girl in Estelline SD who has received letters from Augustana, Drake, Baylor, and several others. Whitney Miller, 5'11" Junior who transfered from Sioux Valley. She plays on a traveling team in the summer. Baylor saw her in Kearney Nebraska.

I haven't seen her play but she's playing on a 1-3 team. She scored 11 points against Deubrook and 16 points in a 48-18 win(their only win) over Florence/Henry. I guess she is just a junior and maybe she doesn't have much help but if she was/is Baylor material, I would think her team would be better than that.
I guess Madison(4-1) and Deubrook(3-2) are class A schools and Arlington(1-2) has lost to 2 class A schools(Elkton and Deuel).
It's only 4 games in so she might be a DI player but I'll have to see it to believe it. It would have been interesting if she would have stayed at Sioux Valley, they are rated in state without a DI player.
P.S. SDHSAA.com has her listed at 5-7. I'm sure that was probably last year and she's still growing but I'm just relaying that tidbit.

Is Baylor recruiting the Estilline team or Whitney Miller? I doubt the folks at Baylor could care less about what Estilline's record is at this point in time. They liked what they saw in the individual in Kearney Nebraska and are going to explore it more no doubt. Who Estillline plays or does not play matters little. I believe an Egriz fan mentioned that Montana had a roster member who got playing time but had only played six man football in high school. Its about the work ethics, talent and desires of the individual that matter and not what high school level they played at. Of course she may have to work harder but if here ethics and mind are in the right place, she should do okay.

She is 5'10, that was a typo and she left Sioux Valley due to a coaching issue. She does have a knee issue recently, but nothing major so she has only played two games. We will see as the season goes on. Sioux Valley only plays 6 girls and one is an 8th grader Shelby Reed.

Neither Estelline, or Sioux Valley for that matter have any girls that are D1 caliber. Estellines best 2 players may be Saathoff and Taylor, a pair of sophs. They both have way more upside than Miller.

Now I would agree that Miller is not D1 material, but I am just stating what I saw with the letters she received. SDSU has not sent her anything, so that is funny that Baylor has!

A letter to a recruit doesn't mean a whole lot. They are nice to get and make a high school kid feel good and I guess that is the point. But I would put little to no stock into this as this the recuiting process plays itself out.

The Grizz had a kid verbal yesterday (I believe) that played six man football here in MT.

It's a necessary evil in MT. The state is so big and some of the towns so small and spread out the number of students in some high schools are tiny making field a nine man team impossible.

I would guess speed is big factor in the success of a six man football team.

I think Nebraska may have few schools playing six man, and South Dakota had it until maybe the late 1960's or 70's. A three man line center and two ends and three backs qb and two halfbacks. Everyone eligible for a pass. A wild game for those schools under 40 in enrollment.

I believe 6 man football in SD ended in the early or Mid-1960's. I remember as a kid watching 6-man ball. By the time I was in Jr. High we played 9 man.

Six man football was quite fast. The field was 40 x 80 yds with 15 yd to 1st down. As Nidaros stated all players were eligible receivers.

Also saw an article that indicates the other Dakota is considering bringing the 6 man game back.

Man, thanks for the insight! Always wondered how that worked.

Texas has over 100 six-man schools, and if memory serves there are six-man teams in Colorado, Montana, New Mexico and Wyoming.

Now if we were talking, say Iowa six girl basketball we would be more in line with Womens Basketball. Talk about taking a right turn and going left this thread has moved into a giant snow drift and lost all direction.
