it is funny that my 4am rambling got asked on but my questions I sincerely wanted an answer for didn't...lol

No, not related to Flynn that I know of, the reason for the Flynn comparison is Becky was playing junior varsity as a 5th grader I think was playing varsity ball as a sixth grader... and I think this girl is that good.

I have always thought that the younger a player is when they learn and grow comfortable with the fundamentals - setting your feet before shooting, how to complete a pass, ball handling, how to position your hands on the ball when shooting, - the better they will be. Right now this girl is already well on her way and she is a very athletic player. The future only knows what will happen but she is a joy to watch play already.

I asked my daughter today if this girl plays a lot at school and she said, "no mom, she plays with the Juniors... well not the Junior, Juniors but you know, she goes up to the summit all the time and plays with the big kids."

I don't personally know her parents so can't talk for how tall they are, or how tall she will be.

Those were my real questions the rest is just me rambling at 4am... read at your own risk..... lol

thinking about basketball... go figure, guess I have more of my dad's coaching gene than I thought...

My daughter's class is way young -5th grade - It is hard to judge because there was SUCH a variety of talent level between the 80 or so girls that were out this year from the I think I know what a basketball is to the rest...BUT...
There is one girl who I think is going to be amazing as she matures in the sport. I sincerely believe if she were at a B school in the state she would be dressing JV ala Becky Flynn back in the late 80's at Wakonda, she is that good.

5'6-5'7 range, was using both hands bringing the ball up the court with great ball control, very sharp accurate passing and would pull up and pop a jumper from 10-12 foot range with no fear on top of having a super quick fake and drive to the hoop... was fun to watch her. Someone has been putting a lot of hours in with her on her fundamentals because they are top notch already. (btw...no it isn't my daughter...lol she is the one who stands and cheers when the rest of them made a basket...)

just wanted to say I am sorry about not putting her name on here but as a mom of a 5th grade girl, If I happened across a post naming my daughter, no matter how flattering the post was, I would hunt down the person and flay them verbally.
oh yah...backed up ,....the serious question about how early coaches start scouting players....i'm guessing the reason that didn't get answered is because, like me , no one know's.

I know that our coaches were at a few Worthington games when Gabby was in 9th grade. The rumor was that she got an offer back then.I think that was confirmed in one of the interviews/articles a few weeks ago when she committed.

Watched Lindsey Johnson a 6'2 sophmore from Harrisburg the other night. She also plays for the Schoolers. Pretty decent player, athletic and should devleop into a nice player.

Hope Jill Young doesn't get her all time scoring record for South Dakota girls basketball record broke that soon if in your opinion she's capable of doing it, unless of course she accepts a scholarship to S.D.S.U.

Will never happen here, Yankton doesn't bring kids up. To break Jill's, or Flynn's numbers you need more time.

So what you are saying is I should be inviting her to come with KT and I to the summit tournament and teaching her about the Jackrabbits vs. the coyotes wonder if they would give me another ticket in the same area.

actually it would be fun to bring that whole group of girls (KT's classmates that participated, not all 80 or so from all five elems that played..;0)... hmmm maybe. With a GA ticket do they get assigned seating or is it going to be a dash for seats?

Yes good idea, & get her some nice practice shorts with SDSU on them, maybe Jenn can throw you an old pair, not "THE" pair she referenced because those she's keeping for her own future daughters. Wonder if that would be considered A "recruiting" violation by the NCAA?

You could always sell her a pair...say...at a garage sale or something for 25 cents.

We might want to keep an eye on Martha Alwal a 6'2 post from Worthington who is evidently quite a shot blocker. Maybe Gabby can influence her:

She has made tremendous progress for someone who hasn't been playing basketball for very long. She is 6'2" with a wing span of someone 3 or 4 inches taller. When you can get 20 rebounds and block 11 shots against the top ranked team and a highly regarded 6'3" player, there is a lot of upside for her.

Is Martha being recruited by SDSU and or other DI programs or has she just landed on the radar?

Have not heard any specifics, but the Jack coaches certainly saw her as I'm sure they watched Gabby a few times this season.

I have been told by someone involved with one of the AAU girls teams that South Dakota State, NDSU, and USD all have their elite basketball camps for high school girls scheduled in conflict with AAU tournaments this summer. I wonder how much that will affect the attendance and recruiting done at those elite camps.

depends which AAU tournament it is..... generally if you are asked to go to an elite camp you go.... but if its a pretty big AAU tournament it could affect the turnout....
