Larkins is a very good player, but she would be so much better if she was playing with a good PG. Freeing her up from being the primary ball handler would allow more plays to put her in better scoring opportunities. She expends so much energy handling the ball most of the time plus playing defense chasing guards like Paige. USD's biggest issues seem to be not having a true PG along with not really having a good low post player.

FORTY straight regular season conference wins.
Also one of the Meyer’s deserves POY over Larkins when you watch them head to head.
I feel like you probably have to give it to Brooklyn over Paige. as far as I know there is no lobbying or stating of cases by coaches or schools for their players? if there is, I could see AJ extoling Paiges merits, but at the same time, I think he might be hesitant to say she is the team leader. I would guess he still gives Tori plenty of credit for that and I would agree with that
but stats wise Brooklyn is number 2 in boards, top 5 in points, and running away with blocks
I think if we run the table again (maybe league champs with one loss would be enough) Brooklyn has a good shot. is there any penalty for being a sophomore? do they prefer an upper class player? also, I think an easy out for them would be to name Brooklyn DPOY
awards discussion_
POY- Brooklyn, Borowicz, Larkins are the top 3 vote getters probably ndsu E. Evans is 4. the ORU stats are too heavily divided among 4 players to choose one for their POY choice
I dont have a good feeling on who gets this? if usd can finish top 3 maybe Larkins is the favorite?
DPOY- I am sure there is someone that i am not thinking of, but I think it should come down to Brooklyn, Tori, or Udomoh (league leading nearly 10 boards a game and 2 steals a game) she has the stats but how can the DPOY of year play on a team that consistently gives up 90 points a game? and hopefully voters remember her rebounding numbers are helped by the fact that there are a lot more shots taken in their games, therefore a lot more rebound opportunity. I understand that also impacts the points they give up, but seriously the Jacks are the UNQUESTIONED best defense in the league giving up 16 points less per game than ORU. Brooklyn anchors the D by being the last line of defense, but Tori almost always defends the top player on the other team. main defender on Larkins, ORU top scorer Jones, dont recall it but i guess she covered Borowicz too- had 17 against us but on 22 shots and with ZERO assists. my guess is AJ would give it to Tori
6th POY- seems like obviously Mesa or ORU Ogelsby. if Mesa starts the rest of the year that will probably wrap it up but i am not surprised if there is a good choice i am forgetting, but Ogelsby scoring and rebounding stats will be pretty compelling
COY- i feel like maybe we need to run the table for them to give it to AJ again?? otherwise whatever coach manages to get their team into second and i dont feel like any of NDSU, ORU, St Thomas, or USD coach is a terrible choice listed in no particular order
Newcomer OY- this is the only one i feel like i am sure. Jones for ORU
I guess it probably wont happen, but i could see the Jacks running the table and getting shutout of the individual awards.
Guesses-
POY- too close to call, I say Larkins or Borowicz
DPOY- B Meyer
COY- Collins
6th POY- Ogelsby
NOY- Jones
Freshman- i have no idea? is Hopp in the running? i guess someone has a Freshman starter. I did not get to see the beginning of the bison game, but dont they start a Freshman. if not starting, I think they have one or two who play significant roles

The POY of the year may have Evans ahead of Larkins and Borowitz. It presents another sophomore to be considered for that honor. Currently, Brooklyn M and Evans would be more valuable for the team and their own stats.Best to remember these are kids and they are doing everything they can to entertain us, be scholars, and all in all be great humans. at the same time PG is becoming more and more of a scoring position. there are teams that still use a somewhat traditional PG but more and more they are scorers, such as Abmas. tell me if i am remembering wrong, but I dont recall them using her in a lot of pick and roll type action. i feel like we utilize that much more with Paige. also, having the ball in her hands is what makes her the league leader in assists and that is certainly part of her value to them and what gets her attention as an all around performer
I would have to go back and watch, if it was Larkin in pick and pop action with Mazurek, but i feel like i can see the instance where Brooklyn did such a terrible job (neither showing to help our guard over or recovering the shooter after) and i dont recall it being Larkin with the ball. I think they tried to use some ball screen action with Holmes to get her going. she is their leading scorer in league play and she had ZERO FGs
Larkins has had solid scoring numbers against us in both games. i give her credit for not forcing shots yesterday. we made it tough for her to get the ball back if she gave it up. 13 pts on 8 shots is very respectable plus 7 boards and 6 assists
again, i hear you and i think another good ball handler / run the team type player would take some pressure off her, but also think they will want the ball in her hands over half the time regardless. also, they really have not shown the ability to recruit a lot of top players since early in DP career, so having another guard good enough to take the ball out of her hands would be kind of a luxury for them

if they finish second, which I think they should, i would still say only maybe she tops Larkins and Borowicz in POY votes. her rebounding stats are not as good as they should be for a player with her physical gifts. Larkins is probably 4 inches shorter and has TWO more boards per game and obviously far better assist numbers. I am pretty sure Evans is third on her team in assists and the Jacks have two players ahead of her in assist numbers, paige and tori, and maddie m is basically tied with her
Evans is #3 in the league in blocks but basically one a game.
i think she is a GREAT player, better than her numbers, but it would be a real travesty if she gets it over Brooklyn. they are close in scoring but Brooklyn scores more and more efficiently and Brooklyn crushes her in Rebounds and Blocks and Evans averages less than a full assist per game more
i love the player! i think she is better than the stats suggest!! but she is too far behind the other 3 statistically to really be in the conversation. in my other post i listed her 4, but looking at it more, I think i might put Udomoh over her. Udomohs problem is that i think her stats get inflated by ORU playing style. do the voters recognize that? my guess is probably not

If Evans was a PG, I would worry more about assists. She is much like Tori N where she is guarding someone much shorter and not likely quicker. She plays big minutes and is more than capable of scoring many points. Of course, I am leaning toward B Meyer as the candidate of POY. Larkins and Borowitz may have been more effective last year from the games I have watched.. I believe that underclassmen ought to be on equal consideration for POYBest to remember these are kids and they are doing everything they can to entertain us, be scholars, and all in all be great humans. Man that was a good road swing other than another blown knee. Whatever happened to a good ole fashioned muscle pull or cramp that would keep a player out a week or two? Seems ridiculous that all these injuries are severe. I get that its basketball and there's a lot of pressure but wow.
That being said there are capable 3 point shooters on this team that like to take turns, and of course Meyer inside is unstoppable, but I fear against the stiffer competition if we get there we will wear down from a lack of bodies.

-yes underclassmen should get equal consideration! (dont know if they do but they should)
-yes Evans is better than her stats- I do think she should have better rebound numbers!! Mesa averages basically a full board per game more playing 13 less minutes per game. Tori is equal playing less minutes per game and competing with both Brooklyn and Mesa for boards
-yes Brooklyn is my vote and Jacks fans or smart basketball fans will have good reason to be frustrated and annoyed if she does not get it!!
i think Borowicz was better last year but probably not in Larkins case
I like that you compare Evans to Tori
it is a bit ironic that Tori and Alex A were here basically the same time. both are going to end up among the most underrated players in program history and both because they were unselfish total team first players and did not put up big scoring numbers
we can say they focused on other parts of the game because they were not great scorers to begin with. there may be truth in that. but it is also true when you are very unselfish and DO NOT care if you score as long as you are helping your team that sometimes it is difficult to flip the switch to being a scorer. also there is just a bit of an attitude that scorers almost MUST have that makes them WANT to be taking the shot. truly neither of Tori or Alex care who took the shot if the team was winning
I believe that AJ will say Tori is one of the best overall defenders he has coached. there is nothing she does not do well. she will end up over a 1300 point scorer- dont know if she makes it to 1400. good scorer as freshman, very good two years ago- over 40% from the arc. not good from 3 the last two years but still efficient overall. she has ALWAYS been a clutch FT shooter and generally good percentage wise. i think she is over 90% this year
also just like Alex she has started as a 4 and also spent plenty of time as the primary ball handler. she is the 4 this year or was unless mesa starts the rest of the year, but also our #2 PG the last two years
i apologize i did not intend to change the topic away from Elle Evans and again i totally agree with you she is an EXCELLENT player. again she would be the first player i draft from any other team in the league!! i take her EASILY over Larkins!! (but Tori deserves more attention and appreciation than she does or will get. and she does not care)

I’m with you all on it being Evans and the Meyers as the last standing in the POY discussion. Larkins was probably eliminated for good last night.
Evans is definitely worthy, and NDSU will be a handful with our 7-player roster. I just grabbed some of those $15 bleacher seats in the old student section for that Senior Day NDSU game.

If a person was choosing a team and had the entire league to pick from, would some of you really choose Larkins first? The only category she leads is assists. Borowitz is at the top of several, I personally would choose Brooklyn or Paige. I am a sucker for picking the best player on the best team. One hand points to campus...the other to the liquor store.

Larkins over Borowicz all day. She leads in assists by a significant margin. has way more rebounds than Borowicz. scores about the same number as Brooklyn. way better defender than Borowicz.
if we are old fashioned choosing up teams. Brooklyn is my first choice
