Agreed. Marnie also declared at one point that Minnesota had taken their first lead of the second half when the score was 41-41. And they had the bad luck several times to praise the Gophers at the same instant they Gophers were pulling a dumb play, i.e.: The Gophers are really showing a lot more offensive spark (offensive foul); or The Gophers have turned up their defensive intensity (wide open Verdegan three)... etc. Give me Scotty "What?" Kwas anyday.

      Re: Minnesota

Assume somebody else may be typing this as I am, but AJ said that when he looked at the replay with the official, they had stopped it with the ball in Maria's hand, but the ring had not gone off. They advanced it too frames which showed the ball out of her hand before the light went on.

Anyway, was that something. In Megan's defense, when Megan broke from the group of players to go down the floor, she started a fist pump (her usual) as she started to turn, and Roysland was right there. Maybe she gave it a little umph, I don't know, but I don't think it was like a deliverate throw your shoulder at her as she comes to shake hands.

The fact that Megan could have such a miserable day and we still win says a lot for this team. And AJ again proved masterful at getting the ball to half court, with a chance to set up the play, and then doing a great job of setting up a play that the Gophers were not ready for -- way to go AJ!!

If we play decent down the rest of the schedule, this may be the game that absolutely tips the scale for us in WNIT selection. Beating a team in 3rd place in the Big Ten at this point, and on their own floor.

What cracked me up was how proud they were that we have 5 girls from Minnesota on the team and that AJ is also from Minnesota. They must have brought that up 5 times during the game.

Great win, nice job ladies, you are all Jackrabbits to us!

I actually more surprised to see how good MN was. With all the defections of the past they have been solid. Great win for the Jacks.

West River Jack's comments should be the only reply if someone complains about Boever's shot.   Keep in mind the game clock showed 3.5 seconds when the Jacks threw it to the half court side line and it was touched out by Minnesota.  That clock should not have started until the ball was touched and then it was immediately out of bounds.  But the clock shows 2.4 seconds left.  So, West River Jack is exactly right: anyone want to try to explain how that took 1.1 seconds?

Geez, nothing like getting an obvious home job on the clock.  If the 20-25 seconds that should have been taken off the clock had been (the guy controling the clock failed to start it when there was something like 11:20 left in the game...the play went on and the clock didn't run...the refs decided to do nothing), the Jacks win.

AJ is not a cocky guy but I'd be awfully tempted to say stuff like "we shouldn't have let them back into the game...we should not have been that close with a team like the gophers...we should have put them away early in the second half..."   And then you throw in some compliments like: "The gophers are young but have a great future...those Gophers are going to win some games and by the end of the season will be a tough team...."

Yes, they've got some good looking young players, and some big post players. Did you see that they have only 7 total years of D1 experience on the team? That's pretty young.

                    Re: Minnesota

Wow.........this ending has to be the D-I moment for our women's basketball program. To go into a hostile arena and beat a program that has had several NCAA tournament runs in recent years is pretty impressive. To cap it off with a buzzer-beater is incredible. I was at Cubby's with a couple friends for the game and we were ecstatic, then down/doubtful, before finally being joyed with the win.

                    My thoughts on the game:
                    1) I thought the Big Ten(11) was supposed to be the best-of-the-best when it comes to Division I. Screwing up the game clock for 20-25 seconds plus the generous 1.1 second run-off on the tapped mid-court pass play was pretty sloppy.
                    2) Minnesota is a talented team that will be dangerous in a couple years if Borton can keep her players.
                    3) It's great to see us pull out a victory with Vogel being almost a non-factor. That portends well for us next year.
                    4) Was this game a one-shot deal or part of a series deal? I'm sure the Gophers will want another crack at us, but may be afraid of getting routed at Frost.
                    5) We may see Minnesota again in the WNIT.
                    6) If Borton has another program melt-down this year and she is out, AJ may be on the Gophers' wish-list.
                    7) Welcome to Jackrabbit Nation, Maria Boever.

                      Re: Minnesota

I'm at a National Delta Chi fraternity conference right now an hour north of Louisville in Indiana so I didn't get to watch the game. However, the U of Minnesota representative happens to be sitting next to me in the computer lab right now. Needless to say Division I status has alot to do with university pride as well as athletics. A representative from Mankato is also here but when I can talk to a Gopher and an Alabama guy and a Colorado guy about how good our girls basketball team is, it's a whole different level. Go state.

                        Re: Minnesota

Great win. Rugged game, but great win. Credit the refs for taking their time in reviewing the final play to make the best possible call. ... Sure, the TV announcers were homers for Minnesota, but it was a home-game telecast for the Gophers. It was just like any other locally broadcast college game, whether on radio or TV. You can't really expect objectivity unless you're part of a national broadcast with impartial announcers. Maybe we'll experience that in the playoffs later this year and in years to come.

Yes she did.  I'm impressed with her play this year.  I can't remember a player that has shown more improvement from her Freshman year than Courtney has and that includes both the mens and womens teams of recent years.

Just heard Minnesota had awarded the game ball to their defensive standout, the guy/gal running the clock.  Unfortunately for him/her, they had to take it away a few minutes later.  He/she promised to do even "better" next time.

                              Final stats are here:
                              http://www.gophersports.com/fls/8400/stats/Fullbox.htm

Vogel played 17 minutes . . . no wonder her stats were down.

(Of course, they have SDSU as a team with 197 minutes and Minnesota with 203 . . . must be the same folks as the clock operators . . . ;D )

That one worries me. But I think Minnesota has some good young players and they have to give her another year or two. I can't imagine Maturi would fire yet another coach this year. They had to borrow money from the academic side of the university to pay off their other fired coaches. Maturi can't afford to fire anybody else for a little while.
