In that situation he wouldn't take home 315k though. The feds would take another 30%, so that knocks it down to what...210k'ish. vs around 140k here? Not worth it IMO. Don't get me wrong, if UM offers him WAY more (500k), I think he's gone, which they could very well be preparing to do to whomever they choose.
Obviously he pays federal income tax. I didn't compare the federal taxes because you pay federal tax whether you live in SD or MN. It's a moot point. Using the words "take home" was incorrect.
There is no reason to even consider federal income tax as part of the equation. Why on earth would anyone choose to make less money, just to be in a lower tax bracket? It NEVER pays to do that. The federal tax system will not "punish" you for earning more money and entering a higher tax bracket.
I believe if a school is using a search firm , the search firm can contact a coach to "gauge interest" without getting permission from the coach's current school.
I don't believe a search firm is being used. Heard the AD in an interview on the radio two days after Borton was fired and if I recall correctly that is what he said.

Norwood Teague is scheduled to be on KFAN with Dan Buerro this afternoon and they said that they were going to talk about the WBB search. Not sure what time exactly.

TV's article mentions something at least I hadn't considered...supplemental income on top of annual salary. Also he's making 180k here not 200k like I was thinking. Regardless, if he's offered the job and takes it, best wishes to him. If not, glad we can keep him for at least another year.
I tend to think that the assistant from Wichita State will get it. A product of Pat Summit program, and turning the Wichita program around are big points in rebuilding Minnesota. Plus she has had experience coaching a program from poor to being one of the best, and has played at the D1 level. Just my take. If AJ gets the nod, I don't think taxes are going to stand in his way. I am with TK on that point.
The one year contracts may not concern AJ so much, but it certainly doesn't help. Also, it will concern the next basketball coach, whenever one is needed. To me this is one of the bigger issues are administration needs to address. I don't believe any other state enforces the same rules.

As we look at the situation at SDSU, it may justify a significant increase of salary/incentives/other supplements for successful coaches. The value of a winning program must be rewarded in kind.

Adams is the head coach at Wichita State and she comes with some baggage. Just a month or so ago she was reprimanded by the AD because she twice made her players get down and do pushups out on the floor during halftime of a game because she wasn't happy with the way they were running a passing drill.
I love AJ. And he's a great guy as well as a great coach.
But if this is offered to him, and that's what he wants (to coach in the Big 10), he should take it. Those opportunities don't come your way very often.
My hope is that he stays here...but none of us fans really have any input on this.

I did not know about this. Sounds like something Summit would do. She was hard on her players too. Well they got three good choices.
Just me thinking out loud here. If I'm AJ and the U of Minn or a similar program comes knocking, the ball is my court. The negotiation process is driven by me. I lay out what I think are acceptable terms, including a guaranteed contract and salary with a healthy buyout, and the process starts from there. There are only so many instances in life where you have as much leverage as AJ appears to have right now. That said, I know nothing about NCAA women's basketball coaching contract negotiations.

We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.

I think you may be forgetting the other two candidates. AJ doesn't have UM over a barrel or anything. For all we know he is third on their list and the only thing keeping his name in the running is a lower salary offer.

Not that it matters a whole lot, but one must add laurie's salary to the mix. Which is not a huge amount by comparison but adds 26,385 to the household income. But that can be made up easily if she got another job too. I would never underestimate the wife factor though.

I thought Laurie quit working when their daughter was born? (I could be wrong...have been many times).
