    Big-time drift here....

In an effort to get this one back on track: During Saturday's chat I asked TV if he had heard any updates on Devine's progress. He basically stated that he is hearing that Devine is a year away from being ready and that right now it looks like he will get some spot-duty here and there during most of next year. TV also said that he believes Severyn might be ready to contribute right away. Someone is going to have to step up and help Heemstra out.

Devine I think will do what Heemstra did last year I think, play more minutes in better match ups, play mop up duty and then there will be games where we won't see him at all.

From what I hear, Severyn probably won't redshirt and could fit into the Bittle role this year, though I think his offense is better then Bittle's. I'm not sure on the Flatten, Broman and Doyle. I've heard really good things about Matt Donlan, but again with him its how much stronger can he get.

I could go out and write a 3 paragraph article on what I expect from who next year with minutes, but I've done those in the past and then injuries occur, players transfer, new recruits are better (or worse) then I expected and its worthless come next year.

I do agree though that the post could be shaky next year, but its not like SDSU has had a monster down low since going D-I.

considering he weights the same as Carlson, Devine really needs to beef up. I am wondering if Nagy will change the scheme a bit and go even more of a 4 guard rotation. Considering most of the team is in the 6'5 to 6"6 range, will probably have good over all height just lacking depth espcially considering Heesmtra ability to get into foul trouble. but with carlson, white, dkystra, horstman, donlan, Bittle, Severyn. the shortest guy to probably see playing time next year is Bittle and then Prince off the bench who i dont see getting more playing time next year. If Devine can get some Weight and learn the ropes next year he will be even more important after Heemstra graduates. thats when we will really be lacking that extra height unless things change recruitin in the next year.

All I'm hoping for Heemstra is he makes a Pekovic like improvement from this year to next year.

Only if they want to walk on or if a scholarship player leaves the program early.

I suspect if a scholarship player leaves early, which could happen after this season is complete, finding a post player will be difficult. These guys are not a dime a dozen, and many might not fit our program. I think the Wiz from Wasellia is our hope for the future, Devine.

This is what I posted way back in our first NDSU thread
"For next year we NEED Dykstra to become an 18 ppg kinda player. Carlson and White should be 10-15 ppg players with White making at least 2-3 3-pointers a game. Heemstra will be 6-8 ppg kinda guy. Bittle and Prince can be 8-12 ppg guys. I believe that Matt Donlan will be a wildcard for us. He is a pure shooter, and also happens to be maybe our most athletic guy at a mere height of 6'6-6'7. If he puts in the work and adds muscle this season, we will see good things from him the next few years. I also feel Broman could play next year because of his shooting ability.....if White doesn't do it, I'm sure Donlan or Broman are willing to give it a try.

With that said, we had our chances last night and didn't capitalize on them......NDSU did, and won. I love the potential of this team and where we could two months from now."

2 months later, I still feel the same way for the most part. I think Severyn plays because he is both physical, and plays with a hardnose attitude. I also think Broman plays next year because of his natural scoring ability. I believe Flatten will redshirt and I am not sure about Doyle. Does anybody know what kind of build Doyle has right now, is he skinny like most big men his age or solid like Zach Hanson?

What will our rotation look like next year?

                  Starters
PG Bittle (I also feel that Carlson could start here and Horstman could start at SG, with Bittle coming off of the bench)
                  SG Carlson
                  G/F White
                  PF Dykstra
                  C Heemstra

                  Bench
G/F Horstman (Probably gets most time from our bench players)
G/F Prince (If he plays like he did his Fr year and improves upon it, he will get some good time)
G/F Donlan (I think he plays some, not sure how much though)
G Broman (I think he plays because of his shooting ability. It wouldn't surprise me if he plays a little PG as well as his natural SG for us)
C Devine (Him or Doyle have to play next year for depth reasons)

                    C Heemstra

                    I think your right

                    Bittle starts has solid defense.
Carlson shooting guard but will probably share some pg duties.
                    White g/f
                    Dykstra
                    Heemstra

                    Really think
Horsman gets good minutes and shhots well and his atheletic ability will get him more minutes.
Prince not sure if he gets more playing time.
Devine needs to spell heemtra because he can get in foul trouble and we need that height on the floor.
Donlan I think fills horsmans role. Plays some games and some we don't see him. If he can score he will play more. Might get good minutes if he plays solid D
Severyn will play. Sort of has that white/griff style. Shoots well athletic and hustle is alls 100%
Broman will play but thinks it depends on how he adjusts to playing college defense.
Flatten probably needs to redshirt but will be fun to watch with his athletic ability.

I didn't know who his coach was until now. Anyone remember Forest Witt? He's learning from a good one.

Yup...lefty from St Cloud St. I remember some pretty epic match-ups between him and Austin Hansen back in the day.

Doyle isn't ridiculously skinny for a high schooler, but no where near college ready in terms of physique. His game is also pretty raw too and needs some refining. I think he'll be a good player for us down the road (appears to be a tough/aggressive kid), but he is a "must" red shirt in my opinion.

Taken from TV's blog post today:

"Three of the four incoming recruits for SDSU men’s basketball are nationally ranked at their positions by ESPN.com. Anders Broman is 69th at shooting guard, Lane Severyn is 149th at small forward and Logan Doyle is 155th is power forward.
The only player left out is Clark/Willow Lake senior guard Skyler Flatten, who is said to have the highest ceiling of the bunch."

We might take some lumps for the next year or two but it does look like the shelves might be well stocked with underclassmen. It is going to be a lot of fun watching these guys (plus Bittle, Donlan, Devine..) develop.

An quick article on Severyn from KDLT:

                                http://www.kdlt.com/index.php?option...4202&Itemid=58

"He is just relentless. I mean offensively he's a guy that will get points in so many different ways. I mean the first thing you think about is the three point shooting. He is the all time leading three point shooter in our school. Right now he's the all time leading rebounder in our school history. That speaks for what kind of game that guy really has." Pierre Head Coach Terry Becker says.

Skyler Flatten was the subject of an article in the Aberdeen paper this week:

                                http://articles.aberdeennews.com/201...jerome-nesheim

He is averaging 21+ points and 5+ rebounds for the #1 A team.

It will be fun to watch both of these guys in the State Tournament next month.
