Re: 2013 Recruiting List
I don't understand the inferiority complex that is so prevalent in South Dakota. SDSU is quite a bit bigger than Butler and Gonzaga. It's not unrealistic to hope that the Jacks can match smaller schools like those two in success, over time. Despite being small schools that lack glitz, Gonzaga and Butler built themselves, over time, into D-1 powers. Why shouldn't SDSU strive for a similar level of success? This space for lease.

South Dakota people typically think small. Obviously State isn't close to these teams with their success, but it's definitely the goal. Spending will need to increase, etc, but is it possible? Yes it is. Will it happen? Not any time soon that's for sure. State is at minimum 15-20 yrs away from it but to say it isn't possible is unrealistic. Most people from South Dakota thought the D1 move was a terrible decision. I think State is doing just fine.Disclaimer: This post may contain assumptions and/or opinions related to Jackrabbit Athletics.

Re: 2013 Recruiting List
The built-in advantage that both Butler and Gonzaga have is their location, and the talent base they have to recruit from relatively close to their campuses. There is a wealth of talent within a 250-300 mile radius of Butler, and Gonzaga is close enough to California to attract a lot of good players.

Re: 2013 Recruiting List
The mid-major who has had some success that you can expect somewhat for SDSU to turn into if they develop a program is Northern Iowa. Similar budget, similar facilities, get the better of the area recruits but nothing nationally ranked or anything when it comes to recruits. Might crack the top 25 once every 5-10 years. Make the tournament about 50% of the time. Win a game or two once every 3-5 years.
I don't know if people understand how much Gonzaga's budget is, what they pay their coach, and everything else they have. If SDSU goes on a run for the next couple of years, Nagy is probably gone as well. The thing that has allowed Gonzaga to stay on the national scene is their budget. They are able to go out and recruit nationally, retain coaches, get nationally televised games, etc. Its not a knock on SDSU but I SDSU doesn't have the tools to be able to maintain success for long extended periods of time.

Re: 2013 Recruiting List
Sorry, RO is right on this one, and its has nothing to do with an inferiority complex. I don't know what Joeboo22, is drinking recently but he has made some really good posts and his comparison to UNI is the latest. Lets try to get close to UNI in hoops in the next ten years. By the way they gave Louisville a run tonight.

Re: 2013 Recruiting List
And I second boxerboy's and RO's comments. One trip to the big dance does not make us a Gonzaga or a Butler. Look how many years it took to build their programs. We got a great coach and slowly but surely a program is being built. I doubt we could beat either Butler or Gonzaga at Frost this year let alone on a neutral or away floor. Ten years from now, how many people in the media will remember SDSU played Baylor close 2012. Close only wins in horse shoes and hang garnades.

Re: 2013 Recruiting List
You guys can be nagative nellies all you want but I agree with sinatra and the best is yet to come. No one said because we made the tourney one year we are the same as butler and gonzaga but if things go right in the future we can be and frankly should be. There was national media during the transition who saw the potential years ago to be like a gonzaga. Its sad our own fans can't."The most rewarding things you do in life, are often the ones that look like they cannot be done.” Arnold Palmer

Another great season like last year and it will be more realistic I think then most would beleive. Of course we could go back to barely being above .500 in confrence and we might just be a flavor of the week(year).

Re: 2013 Recruiting List
You guys have hijacked this thread and brought this argument into a rather silly direction. Lets take this one season at a time and let's use this thread to discuss 2013 recruits.LET'S TAKE A TRIP TO BIRDLAND! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68-6O2mJhMw

IF, Nate Wolters turns in to the Next John Stockton, and we go deep into the dance five or six years in a row, will anyone think of SDSU in the same sentence as Gonzaga."The most rewarding things you do in life, are often the ones that look like they cannot be done.” Arnold Palmer
