I agree, but that's intuition and I've talked with his dad a little bit but not recently.

Zach Hanson would make a recruiting class all by himself. I highly doubt he ends up at SDSU, but it would put SDSU at the next level.

Yeah I doubt he ends up at SDSU. He is going big time.

Skyler Flatten's recruitment took a giant boost when Drake and Creighton both reportedly offered.

I think it was later reported that Drake had offered, but Creighton has only showed interest at this point. Big difference there in my mind, as I think SDSU can compete with offers from Drake but Creighton would be hard to match up with as they have a lot of good things going around their MBB program right now.

A lot of posters saying its a foregone conclusion that Hanson and possibly Flatten leaving. What if the they do end up at SDSU. Then what? The grass isn't always greener on the other side and I think the Jacks having a big year this year will only help to keep them instate. I mean who wouldn't want to take SDSU to an even higher stage than the tourney and become a cinderella team of years past. If you are good enough, NBA scouts will find you, no matter what conference you are in whether it is a BCS conference or not. So what I'm trying to say is, would you rather play for a cinderella team and be a star of the team or just be another guy on the team, where if you are good enough you will get a shot at the pros regardless? Not to mention, sometimes more playing time early helps your development than just practicing ala Wolters.

You will be reading a story in the Argus Leader and Collegian about a short, fat, hairy, Senior at SDSU getting arrested for streaking through campus after stumbling over a curb or crack in the sidewalk.......then again, I can't really run that far so I might not get caught before I stumble.

SDSU is making their recruiting ammunition better and better every year and it has made staying at home a much more attractive option. The bottom line is it will come down to a personal decision for each individual recruit on what is important to them.

Things in SDSU's favor for an in-state recruit (IMHO):
              1. SDSU IS WINNING. All others are probably distant in importance. The rest are in no particular order.
              2. It is close to home and yet far enough away.
              3. Parents can make it to a lot of games versus a school a long way from here.
              4. The Summit Leadue Tourney is in Sioux Falls and probably will be long term.
              5. SDSU is in a great spot to be a serious contender for the automatic bid at Summit Tournament.
              6. SDSU plays a tough schedule. Gives team a chance to showcase how good they are.
              7. Coach Nagy is a stable force at coach. He is a great coach and an even better person.
              8. Kids that are ready to play can come in and play immediately. There's a proven track record of that. Who wants to redshirt and then ride the bench until they're a junior?
              9. SDSU is a big school but located in great small city which makes for a very good atmosphere.
              10. The whole state is following SDSU basketball. Even those that wear red are paying attention to the Blue and Yellow.
              11. A recruit has a chance to do something special as a player and team that will be remembered.
              12. SDSU has a strong commitment to academics and a proven track record of success.
              13. Frost Arena is a great basketball arena.

I'm sure I could list many others if I wanted to spend the time. The lure of the "bigger school in the bigger conference" isn't going to go away. The great news is that SDSU is now competing for these kids where a few short years ago that wan't the case. My hope is that they continue to strengthen their "resume" to make it harder and harder to go somewhere else. In fact, I hope that the kids start making it their dream to become a Jackrabbit. That's where we need go and those are the kids we need to find.

The future of SDSU Basketball is extremely bright and I'm looking forward to it!

Expecting to sign guys like Hanson and Flatten is almost as crazy as expecting that a move to DI would work or that our teams would qualify for the NCAA tourney within the first 5 years of said move, borderline insane to think that way.

By the way, I expect Flatten will be a Jackrabbit and I think there is more than a good chance Zach Hanson will be too.

I remember when somebody told me a certain HS QB from B Valley was way too good to end up at a FCS school. Same person said only reason he did was because he was injured. I don't give a damn why he ended up at SDSU, just darn glad he did.

                    • Re: 2013 Recruiting List

Hanson's recruitment will take off this summer, it already has to a point, but don't be surprised if Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and other Big 10(12) schools offer, if they haven't already.

Flatten- I don't really even know who this kid is, I talked to a few people that watched Clark-Willow Lake play last year and they said he didn't really impress them, I've heard about his name for about a year, but more in the walk-on possibility, maybe earn a scholarship, possibly a USD/UNO/UND (transitional/just out of transition) type of D-I recruit. And then I read that Creighton and Drake have offered.

Severyn- I know a few people from Pierre, and they all think he is better then Hanson (they are high/drunk idiots of course, not because Severyn isn't good but because Hanson is a completed stud), but I've always talked to a few basketball minded folks who have watched him play and they say he doesn't realize how good he is, and wouldn't be surprised if he became a high mid-major recruit.

With this past year being the first year I can recall without a single D-I basketball recruit in the state of South Dakota (maybe a walk-on or 2 but I'm pretty sure there wasn't 1 scholarship athlete in class of 12). It is nice to see that 2013 looks to pick up with the basketball talent in the state.

If SDSU gets them its a good deal, but if they don't I don't want to here about how the coaches can't recruit, we need to recruit South Dakota, blah blah blah blah......

Well according to his Rivals page http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketb...-Hanson-139511 .......Zach Hanson already has offers from Arizona State, Iowa State, and Nebraska amongst about every mid-major in the region plus Gonzaga.

There's no way Hanson signs with any of the Dakota schools, but that's my opinion.

I've also heard that Gonzaga is his favorite as of a couple months ago.

Comparing sumners recruitment to hansons is just poor I get what u r saying but sumner was hurt, never had a major offer cuz of it, hanson has bcs offers on top of high mid majors wit history of being top 25 the highest recruit landed on the bball team would be dykstra or prince and both had fluke recruitments not saying there isn't a chance cuz I know he is pretty tight wit a player or 2 on the jacks and I get the impression he likes state but I wouldn't bet my house on it or even my car which isn't worth too much

That makes some more sense but even drake and ndsu offers r pretty good for a guy that has kinda came out of nowhere most guys especially small school guys who end up wit d1 offers u hear about when they r in jr high
