Patience my friends. Exciting times are ahead for this program. We have the nucleous and now it's time to just round it out with the missing pieces!
I haven't read most of this so this is probably redundant.

I don't like to see players leave early but it's not up to me.

Josh decided to leave and I think it was a good decision. He wouldn't have played much and he took up a scholarship. He can move on and SDSU can find somebody that can help the team

Michael and AC- They decided to move on for their reasons. AC will graduate in December anyway so he would want to move on before the conference season gets into full swing. His back is bad and if it's that serious, it's nice to know now instead of hope that he can play (in the tourney) and then be let down. This way the younger guys will get more PT and the players will get more of a chance to gel.
I don't know what job they have for Michael but he must not need to finish his schooling. It's nice to have an "in" so you can get a job. It would have been nice to have him so there was experience at the PG position but it is what it is.
About 10-15 minutes a game is about what I think both of them would have been playing. Enough minutes to be missed but not enough to shake up the team. This depends on injuries and other things, though.

James is a different story. I'll wait until I see who else in coming in and what Nagy does with the scholarships before I judge this. If James wasn't going to play at all, it's nice to let him know that and move on if he wants to. If the scholarships are spoken for, it's not a bad move. I just don't see SDSU bringing in 4 more players next year. I think I read somewhere that he said he might just leave the scholarship open. Will he give a 1 year scholarship to a walk-on? If you don't have somebody to replace him and you leave the scholarship open, why not let him stay here? He knows that he won't get to play but that's his option.

I did see a player on campus Monday, March 29th. I think he might come in to replace Michael. That's just a guess but he looked like a juco guard.

UMKC has announced the departure of men's basketball players Mushatt, McKinney-Jones and Bazzell. Tough offseason in the Summit League.
Looks like SDSU is not alone. I think UMKC's losses will hurt more than what SDSU has lost.

Wow those are huge losses and it probably puts UMKC's coach on the hot seat, that team has had nothing but trouble as of late.

Here is the way I see the team next year

            PG-Wolters/Carlson
            SG-White
            SF-Sargent/Callahan
            PF-Feigen/Moss
            C-Dykstra/Heemstra

I'll argue that those 9 can do more then this years team.... You lose proven leadership but I think Moss and Sargent can make up for that, you lose rebounding but I think Feigen/Dykstra/Heemstra should be able to hold their own.... I think a pure shooter wouldn't be the worst idea but its hard to get a pure shooter who can create his shot to come to SDSU....

Hold on there young man, it has to do with a lot more of having a child than most of us can imagine. Trying to raise a child, a full class load, and put in nearly 40 hours in practice and travel makes life quite a juggling act. I dont blame Michael or AC for their departures, and if its because of families, then that shows they care about other things in their life than entertaining about 6000 speculating fans like you and me.

At an endowment banquet, I believe the inaugral one, I had this very young looking man look me in the eye and with a big smile extended his hand and said "Hi, I am Michael Palarca, I am member of the basketball team." My reply was "yes I know".
This meant a great deal to me since I had never met him before. What a neat guy. In the process I also met Griffin Callahan who was right behind Palarca. I was so impressed this small donor got this introduction and it was before the banquet started so both the guys and me were standing around looking at each other. You all know what its like to get to an event early. These two guys did not have to do this but obviously Michael took the intititive to introduce himself and and btw some other athlete received the stipent from the scholarship in my name. I think Michael will do real well in the business world with or without his degree as he can come across in a very positive manner.

I think the four departures seem to be a mixed bag of reasons for departure.
In AC and Palarca its family reasons.
With Cassady, he apparently has not reached the goal of playing time that he thought he should be at, and I am sure the staff was in agreement. Granted Nagy and staff made the offer of scholarship, but often we never know how each individual is going to work out in terms of talent level and motivation.
With Rader, what little I know, it appears to be a motivation problem, and when it involves the parent who was the presiding clergyman at your wedding, its difficult to make a choice like this but I am sure Nagy weighed this matter from many angles and came away with the decision he made. Also I recall a JUCO post player from D2 days from Texas, and recall his bright red hair, who had a similar problem in that he was not motivated. It was very obvious from his body language displayed on the floor. I recall this individual being released after one season and at an alumni golf outing, a group of us sitting at the same table as Coach Nagy were full of questions about this one player's departure. Coach did not say much except this: " I tried everything I could think of to try and get this guy motivated and do what we recruited him for and nothing worked." I wonder if this is the case too with Rader. The prior incident had to be maybe 10 years ago so once in a while you are going to have these problems. No sense in letting them linger, and waste good scholarship money.

It would be nice to retain every ballplayer each coach recruits, but when the student athlete does not measure up to SDSU expectations, then some sort of decision has to be made. So we go forward and hope the replacements for these four will all be improvements in winning games and in making good grades in the class room.

It was during his first year here I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong. He ended up red-shirting that year.

I thought Cassaday had a much worse leg injury his redshirt year.

I think what Joeboo was getting at is that the injury Cassaday received during his freshman/redshirt year required a surgery that has comparable effects to Tommy John's surgery, which means a long recovery time and is tough to come back from.

yeah sorry..... micro-fracture surgery has similar effects to tommy john surgery of the knee.... its a surgery where some come back better then before (Admarie Staudimire) and others don't come back at all.....

not trying to say that its tommy john surgery of the knee or anything....

I just wish he was a little more of a scoring threat, whether it be off the bench or starting.
