Listened to Terry V. today on Kwsn. Wow! talk about the varsity and the junior varsity! Those two should be ashamed to be on the same show as TV! I am sure Craig hasnt heard about the internet and that we all have the ability to look up stats about everything! He said our move to D-1 will not be a success and that we gave up full houses to St Cloud St. He, of course, was trying to say every game was a sellout. I know he never was at a game! TV so "out dueled" those two with his first-hand knowledge of the league, it was great! I was getting a little tired this afternoon but now I am wide awake... thanks Craig and John!
Nidaro: No scripts in live talk radio. There are "unwritten rules" However!
Blueseat: Wow! A well thought out, well stated post! You should post more! Also, thanks for the kind words.
It is funny how the "you were against the move" does not seem to be a two way street. I root for SDSU, as I always did, and really hope the move works for both State and USD. However, there are several fans that won't let it go. The move was proposed, it was discussed, sometimes heatedly, the decision was made, and we moved forward. However, I still recieve vitriolic comments from some fans when I attend games. I never begrudge people their opinion. I do begrudge people that have opinions about me as a person because of my opinion.
Concerning KWSN, I don't listen much. But I do notice a one difference since I left. I worked very hard to have at least 4 guests each day, and tried to get a variety of people from around the state and on different subjects. When Craig and I did have a heated discussion, it was legitimate, and worth having because it was on a major topic (mostly).
Now it seems they have fewer guests. That allows the hosts to talk more, and to take more callers. Some folks think that is good and some do not. The problem with that is if you have no guests and no callers, you have to fill the time somehow. I think that leads to discussion for the sake of discussion. That can be a very dangerous road to travel, and I know I would not be very good at it.
Mike, I can remember when the Dan Patrick Show used be packed with quests and GREAT interviews! At some point, ESPN made a change and it was all Dan and other ESPN celebs and the show when down fast, in my opinion. I would guess if Dan Patrick couldnt pull it off, those two cant.
Great point, Mike!
I called in today to the show. I found it curious that they would make a poll question on how many games the MEN would win in the Summit tourney and not the women.
I then asked Craig if he still thinks the move to D-1 was/is a mistake. He says yes it was. I reminded him that UNC left, Morningside left and NDSU was leaving and what would be left of the NCC? What kind of conference would it be? He had no answer for that and instead said something about the attendance and something about Centenary (couldn't hear him too well). I told him State needs time to develop rivalries now that we are in a conference. I pointed out the success of the football team and the success of the women's program. I asked that if the men finish top 3 in the Summit (not a stretch at all) next year if he would still view it as a mistake. Yes he would.
I am about done w/ KWSN period. I will see how they act during the Summit tourney and after it's all said and done. The constant uneducated, sarcastic garbage from Craig is getting very old.
i listened to 910 out of brookings today instead of kwsn. in fact im done with kwsn. 910 has mike and mike but doesnt have the herd but i can live with that. i liked the 2 hrs between 9-11 they talked south dakota sports and sdsu. i wont listen to craig anymore.

exactly. I decided to give them this week since the summit tourney is going on, figuring they'd have to talk about it. The more I think about my previous posts, and things I dislike about that station, the more I realize that I think Craig is the only problem. My criticism of Bob and John may have been misplaced anger towards Craig. I only listened to the last 10 minutes, so I missed your call, but I did hear a portion w/ TV. I can't believe the poor guy sits through that, but I commend his classiness, he sure made Craig look bad.
Craig has made up his mind that he was and is against the move and that is it. Typical S.D. attitude that it was always that way so it should have stayed that way.
His big argument is that SDSU can't afford the $9 million a year that they are spending on DI and that they should have stayed DII because there was less travel. He then went to say how much better it was the Jacks were playing Mankato, Duluth, and Morningside in front of packed houses at Frost rather than on the road in front of 300 fans at Centenary. He forgot to mention that the football team has had record attendance the last couple of seasons, as have the women, and discounted that the men's team attendance would ever get better.
He also failed to mention that enrollment at SDSU is about 40% higher now than it was 10 years ago, much attributable to going DI. That research money going into SDSU is much higher than before DI, and that donations from alumni around the nation is higher because of the move. Sure do miss playing Mankato St. though...
It was refreshing hearing TV on the show as he actually brings facts and reason to the table when in conversation rather than simply using opinions from 10 years ago.
Craig has the mindset of some South Dakotans who think we have no business running with the bigger dogs and that we shouldn't let our heads get too big for their britches.
Craig has maxed out his own potential in broadcasting. Where he is at is as high as he will ever go and he probably won't be there very long.
He isn't ever going to change his mind. I just love it when SDSU keep doing great things and he looks more and more like an idiot.
The move has been great for the whole state of South Dakota. Do you remember the time that a NCC school was on the front page of USA Today, what about the time that a NCC school had a story run on it in the New York Times, or how about the last time that ESPN came to Sioux Falls to broadcast a NCC tourney? Me neither.
Mike - thanks again for coming on here and giving us some insight. Appreciate it.
I would never hold it against you or anyone else who was against the D-1 move. Alot of people were against it and for alot of good reasons. You made the coment that it happened and let's move on and I agree. Craig also makes those comments, yet he then hypocritically bashes the program on a daily basis.
Craig bitches about the conference SDSU is in. However, if State were to stay D2 and NDSU, UNC, Morningside, USD and UND were to leave who the heck would SDSU bein a conference with? They would either be in the same type of conference with the same travel or they would be in with a Northern Sun type of rinky-dink thing.
Did you guys catch where TV was talking about how great the Summit conference is going to be and how people will be excited for it and Craig laughs and says something like "the Arena, people will be excited to go to the Arena?!?!" It's non-stop....it's frustrating and I've learned that when something upsets me like that I will just walk away instead of getting steamed everyday about it.
Jacks02 - that was a great post! I would love for you to call the show with that and see what he says.
I actually have 910 set on my favorites in my vehicle but didn't know they did sports all the time. That's good news. What are the other sports stations we can get up here? Of course I have 570 on there and I get 1570 pretty decent too.
Not to bring facts into it or anything but these are the average attendance numbers and records from the last three years of DII
'01-'02 - 24-6 - 4,449
'02-'03 - 24-7 - 3,492
'03-'04 - 27-7 - 3,375
And SDSU was ranked in the top 20 through these three seasons. Now, the numbers aren't what they were back then but this year the average home attendance was 2,487 and there wasn't an Augie or USD to draw in 7 or 8 thousand to boost those numbers. Its been my arguement for a while, those that long for the days of DII and a "full" Frost arena are remembering the familiarity of the visiting teams not the numbers attending the games.

actually, it's not sports all the time.
It's funny how John keeps mentioning people not liking change, and then Craig keeps saying how they shouldn't have gone D1.
I sure hope they win at least one game this weekend. He doesn't have to be a fan, but he could be supportive of his home state.
