  • Re: Kwsn...

I wonder if KWSN realizes you can get the full FOX Sports lineup out of Sioux City (620 AM) and that signal goes a lot further into SD than KWSN. I was listening to Jim Rome in Platte today.

He is wrong about the reason for the change however. While there is always more than one reason for most everything, local programming is the main reason for the change. This has never been about MORE local programming, it has been about maintaining the local programs they have, which is where they make the majority of their money.

ESPN has changed their apporoach. It used to be that you could pick up their MLB and NBA games. Now they are part of the required package. KWSN decided that they would rather air a Lincoln-Roosevelt high school game than a Portland-Houston NBA game on a Friday night in January, for example. You will hear the difference when the switch is made at Cumulus. Cumulus will probably have some local progamming (games) on that frequency, but no where near the amount that KWSN airs.
Mike, I am not trying to get into an arguement with you because your contacts to the sioux falls media are much stronger than mine. But I do have a few, and in this case they are in a good place.

I will bet that KSOO will continue with their broadcasting of local sports like they have been.

KWSN is in trouble if ESPN is puy on another station! When I turn to KWSN in the morning, I have to look twice and listen hard to see if they are talking sports! \\\

        Bottom line FOX SPORTS SUCKS!

Were I Cumulus, I'd put USD on KSOO-FM with ESPN Sports.... USD on a classic rock station may be good in a smaller market, but it makes more sense to package it with a sports-talk station.

Isn't USD currently on KELO-AM (Backyard)?

I'd rather figure out a way to put SDSU on KSOO-FM, while keeping WNAX as the flagship station, personally . . .

              Amen Filbert!

Nobody likes Fox Sports, am I the only Dan Patrick fan? Also, does anybody know if the new ESPN station in Sioux Falls is planning a local sports talk show? If they are looking for a host a really good guy in Omaha, Matt Perrault, recently lost his job. Matt is a UMass grad and a big fan of the mid-majors and would be a great host for the Sioux Falls area, he would really shake things up. Although a job in SF would be a pretty big step backwards for him. Here is a link to his blog: http://www.mattperrault.blogspot.com/

KSOO will continue their local sports, but that is not what we are talking about.

filbert: USD has not been on KELO-AM for a couple of years at least, probably longer.

90: I am doubting that KSOO-FM will add a local show. Cumulus has eliminated postitions company-wide at all 1500 stations they own, or however many it is. That includes the recent firings of 4 full-timers at the Sioux Falls branch, even though they are one of the few combos in the chain that is making money. It is rumored that even more cuts are coming down the line company wide.

jackrabit1 has a good idea, but remember that Cumulus Sioux Falls also has a relationship with Augustana.

Mike, doesn't Cumulus also have a relationship with USD, seeing as the games are on B102.7?

I guess if I were Cumulus, putting the games on KSOO-FM, should they go to ESPN Radio, would be the best. Right now, Augie is on KXRB, which has a lot of coverage area. It would make sense to free up the B's programming to go back to an all-music station and put USD on the same stick as ESPN.

Speaking strictly from a programmer's standpoint, of course!

Looks like it is 99.1 with ESPN. Sounds like a local show will also be coming. Get some competition in SF.

"The station will also launch a daily local sports show from 3-4 p.m., hosted by Sioux Falls broadcaster Brad Peterson and University of South Dakota play-by-play man Warren Swain."

Well, I guess they are going with the local show, but are doing it with people already on staff.

Good for them! Brad is a great guy with a passion for sports! I wonder if this will help cement their relationship with USD?

Time to put up or shut up folks. Those of us that complain about Craig and John have a chance to show someone if we are all talk or not. Brad is an SDSU guy through and through (maybe some of you went to school with him I think he attended 84 - 88 or so) and Warren has all the USD connections. They go on air April 20 so tune your radios and call in folks.

One of the many things that irks me about KWSN is when taking calls Craig booms out every time WHO'S THIS? How about having someone else take the calls and transfer them to the hosts so they know who the caller is before hand. This is what is done on 99% of the call in shows I have listened. Maybe KWSN doesn't have the technlogy for that simple solution. I'm so pleased to hear KWSN will have some competition that will hopefully upgrade the quality in the market. I'm not a big fan of the National Shows. I think Paul Allen, Chad Hartman, Dan Barrero, Mike Max and Patrick Reusse are quality hosts in the Twin Cities Market.

I agree "WHO'S THIS", is very annoying and very rude. There has to be a better way of handling calls.

I am very excited for Results Radio to get into ESPN. I was in Results today (alot of great people working there) and can tell you that a company I am associated with will be a major sponsor for the new ESPN programming.

Maybe it's been brought up here maybe it hasn't but a lot of stations all over the country are switching to Fox because of ESPN asking for 100 grand from all their affiliates.
