Steve Brown is not walking through that door And if you expect them to walk through the door, they're going to be gray and old. What we are is young, exciting, hard-working, and we're going to improve. People don't realize that, and as soon as they realize those three guys are not coming through that door, the better this town will be for all of us because there are young guys in that (locker) room playing their a$$es off.
I especially like the last line. Most of us are very anxious for the program to be a winner, I don't fault anyone for that. We need to stick it out and support these guys. They have shown the ability to be resilient and are playing pretty good basketball. That's something, and it means that most of their goals for this season are still attainable.

Let's enjoy that fact and support the guys. These tough losses take their toll on teams. Take for instance last season's December trip to California where 2 devestating losses seemed to really remove the team's hope for the season. This team hasn't taken advantage of every opportunity they have had but to their credit to this point they seem to be undeterred and determined to stay the course.

DISCLAIMER - Lame reference from my non-discript basketball career: My high school basketball coach said repeatedly my senior year, our goal as a team is that in the last 2 minutes of the game we are in a position to win. I know that he wasn't speaking full truth because he really wanted us to win the game, but before we could even worry about that we first had to play the rest of the game well enough and hard enough that we were in the position to win in the first place.

Chad White and Tony Feigen are walking through that door though.... I hope that they are as good as I believe them to be...

But honestly guys, this is a team that didn't gain anybody but Griffan from last year, if you can't see the improvement you are blind. This is a team that if they didn't play perfect for 36 out of the 40 minutes they didn't have a chance and even if they did play perfect it was still a close game....

Very good post. I don't think you can say it any better. We are much much better than last year and if you can't see that you are BLIND.

I've seen a reference to this "not as many touches" in the 2nd half, but don't believe it is accurate. You could question the timing of when AC got the "touches", but he was 6-for-6 in the first half on FGs and 4-for-6 in the second half. Sometimes we see what we want to think??? (This post has nothing to do with any decisions in the last minute on personnel, or who takes what shot, or what happened...just a "clarification" comment.)

I believe Coach Nagy stated in his post game comments that the team quit looking inside like they had in the first half, that was the basis for my previous comment, at least in part.

Let me preface this by saying that I have been incredibly impressed with the improvement that AC has shown this year. He has given the team a presence inside and has been a beast on the boards. His strength and athleticism have been major contributers to the improvement this team has made.

The one thing that went through my mind down the stretch is the fact that when you get to the line for 1-and-1 or the bonus, his free-throw shooting is a liability. He is shooting just a shade over 45%. He shoots 55% from the field. It could be argued that another team is better off fouling him and making him shoot a pair from the line than get a shot off.

His athletic presence makes him too valuable to take off the court but it could explain a lack of "touches" during a given point of the game. Over time if he could raise his percentage at the line to even 60% it would be a huge boost for his game.

Geez, I hope this doesn't sound like I'm down on AC, its just the opposite. He has one are he needs to improve on.

I agree completely. Can you imagine him at the 4 spoy with Davis at the 5?

                  Next year baby!

Yeah, a Davis, Cordova, Williams, Callahan, Callahan/Sargent lineup starts looking pretty decent (assuming Davis is healthy and everything the coaches think he could be)--especially bringing a Callahan or Sargent in as the 6th man.

But this year ain't over yet!

Don't forget Cassaday, Dwight Pederson, and Tony Fiegen coming off the bench. Kai could actually play at his natural 3 position all the time! Call me crazy, but we could be absolutely loaded next year.

I figure Fiegen and White will likely redshirt, but who knows?

I hope so. Watching Woodside, Winkleman, Nelson, and AC during the NDSU game the other night had to make you wonder how much better Kai, Garrett, and Clint would have been with redshirt years. It sure would be nice to have those three for an additional year now, we just didn't have that luxury the past couple of seasons.

So if Coach Nagy saw that, wouldn't it be good to call a timeout and remind his players to get back to what was working? Wouldn't that be a better solution than using it as a crutch against the players in his post game interview? I tire of him putting the blame on the players all the time, it's time he takes the responsibility for the losing.

Personally, I would hope not. If these guys can come in ready to play, I would think they dont redshirt, but its a hard one to call. Seems like we did that with Gilbert, and the guy who left for Concordia, and imo nothing was gained. The NDSU situtation at the start of the transition is kind of unique, and really hard to replicate at this point in time.
