My thoughts:
Offer the kid early before he can start playing again and get a jump on/gain an advantage in the recruiting process over other potential suiters. If his knee problems are fixed with his recent surgery we may have found a diamond in the rough, if his knee is still bad to the point he can't play anymore, then Jacks can do what they did with Davis and move him to an athletic scholarship (as opposed to a basketball scholarship, which counts towards the 13 scholarship limit). Even if it takes a couple years to figure out whether or not he will be healthy enough to play, it really shouldn't hinder us, because we'd still have 4 scholarships available for the 2011 class.
