    Re: GDT: SDSU @ NDSU

I don't think the Jacks are far away, but they've got to shoot a lot better than 28 percent to win. The Jacks played good enough defense to beat NDSU, but their offense sucked. Coach Nagy always talks about how he stresses defense and doesn't worry about offense. It's obviously time to work on the offense, too.

Having time to practice as a team just might help let's not forget that half the starters aren't practicing. Early in the season they were, don't underestimate the importance of practice (together).

At this point, after so many disasters this team has encountered in Fargo, it is NOT ABOUT THE PLAYERS any more.

        This is a coaching problem.

Nagy needs to change how he approaches game-planning, team preparation, and in-game coaching against NDSU. Period. This is not on the players. Not any more.

This is squarely on the coaches and especially on Nagy.

Agreed 100%! There were zero adjustments made during this game to try and change the flow of the game. We made no attempt change up our defense but rather just let them run their offense as we try and switch off screens until they got a mismatch. The coaches need to step up and help the players out rather than say they need to play harder and need more practice.

I'm surprised they've never tried to trap that dribble weave just to change things up. Jacobsen, at least from my perspective, loves attacking to the right off the handoff. There wasn't anything extra, including a press, until the end of the game. Maybe they can't press because of the injuries. Who knows.

Pretty disappointed, but nothing unusual for how things have gone up there.

I hear what you're sayin'...but coaches don't shoot 20 something percent. Is it on coaching...sure. I'm not about to give the players a free pass though...

The Jacks rarely press, for some reason. NDSU folded like a cheap suit when USD applied a full-court press late in their game. USD overcame a 16-point deficit in about 10 minutes and lost at the buzzer by a point.

The Jacks were doing some half-hearted pressing in the second half, but I wonder if (for instance) maybe the Jacks shouldn't one of these years in Fargo come off of the bus pressing the hell out of the Bison and just keep up the pressure all game long.

Do SOMETHING different from the very beginning.

I'd say the press could be more important for just speeding up the pace of the game than creating turnovers. With our current approach against the Bison, the only way we can control the pace is to get an early lead that is substantial enough to create urgency.

This could also benefit the Jacks by forcing them to come out with energy (because it takes energy to run it) and can also slow the Bison from getting set up in the weave offense, which means we'd have to guard it for a shorter period of time (which is good because our players seems to be bored to death when guarding it).

It may have not been possible yesterday with the injuries the teams seems to be nursing, but I think it should be something to consider for the future.

From another arm chair coach, it would be worth trying.

Is our shooting percentage due to not being good shooters or bad shot selection? Our defense is soft, with the exception of Jake who gets in passing lanes and really gets in his man's face on defense. I don't see a lot of that from Parks and Marshall who seem to play it safe on defense. Nagy talks about being tough and Jake is at the top of that list as well. We can talk about not making excuses in relation to injured players but Jake does a lot of the things we seem to be missing with number 1. toughness, 2. plays with emotion, 3. leads the break in transition and finishes or finds an open man. When you're trailing and trying to make a comeback you need an emotional leader and unfortunately Jake ranks at the top in that department as well. Parks and Marshall rarely show emotion.

BTW, speaking of toughness IPFW went into Omaha and pulled out a big win without arguarbly their leader and best player. I guess I'm looking for some consistency from Parks and Marshall.

This Jackrabbit team is soft. That's a fact. Summit league isn't for soft players. NDSU wore our asses down when they had the ball, made the Jacks play 30 seconds of defense and then SDSU took poor shots and fell way behind.

If the Jackrabbits don't get tougher this is going to be a long damn conference season.

Agree 100%. Same thing with AJ as it pertains to USD the last 4 years. Amy Williams has those girls convinced that they can kick our ass. It's just another game for our coaches and that doesn't cut it with the rivalry.

Yes for the NIT and for those other nameless tournaments. I think some others have touched on the SL not being worthy of a At Large bid to the NCAA.
